It’s okay– not great. Not as good as Bagel Hut in Matawan. They are also a bit pricey for so-so food.

Bagels are good, but I usually get lunch usually grab a salad here. Love the dressing they put on the Gem’s salad, so yummy. But my favorite thing here is their iced coffee, they have the best iced coffee!

The prices are ridiculous. I buy bagels in Manhattan for less than this place. Are you telling me that their rent is more than NYC rent. They charged $ 2.50 for a bagel with cream cheese. $ 1.05 for the bagel and $ 1.45 for cream cheese. Perhaps if they didn’t put a block of spread on the bagel… most of which had to be wiped off… it wouldn’t be so much $$ and more enjoyable. Add that to charging $ 2.00 for a small coffee. Nothing worse than being asked to foot the bill because management can’t keep costs managed and/or overcharging at a busy store to cover underperforming stores. It all adds up to me looking for a new bagel store! Too bad because the bagels are good. Just not worth being ripped off every time I go in. Not to mention an extra charge for using a debt card. Really?! That’s the classic sign of a business that says FU to its customers.

The bagels are great. Love the buttered rolls too. The only drawback are the lines. I think they need a few more registers.

This is off my last check in. I’ve had Gem’s before and loved it but this time it was just disappointing. The prices here are higher then a lot of places so I’d rather not pay for mediocrity when I can pay less for more. I got a pork roll egg and cheese and it was average. The egg was rubbery and cold and the bagel just average. Very disappointing. Again however, I have had good experiences before but this time it was nothing but average.

I’m a total fan of this place! Yesterday I put in an order for a group of 22 plus people and it was done so perfectly and not one item was missing. I gave them our list and they marked everyone’s name on their order and had it done exactly when I requested. Everyone was amazed how good the food is. Perfect sandwiches and salads!

So not really impressed… These are decent bagels for the area, but not what I was searching for in terms of the large crisp and chewy NY style bagels that we all love. Not a bad place for the area, but the overall taste is at par at best and the storefront isn’t that inviting either.

Came here because of the good reviews… I love walnut raisin cream cheese and whenever I try a new breakfast place out, that’s what I usually order. I ordered a walnut raisin cream cheese on a plain bagel and thought it was ok. The cream cheese was good, but holy chewiness, the bagel was on the stiffer side. Maybe it was an old bagel? It was already 10 am. If I comeback, I’ll sure to update my review. The place itself is your standard bagel breakfast place. Bagels with cr. cheese, breakfast sandwiches, muffins, and Deli sandwiches(boars head). They also have danishes, bialy, and gluten free products. Coffee and cold beverages available.

Best pork egg and cheese around, bagels are fresh, service is quick. Even quicker if you call ahead. Little pricey but worth it. Definately a favorite weekend spot.

This place is OFFTHEFREAKENWALL! The restaurant itself is very roomy so you don’t feel crowded when you are waiting for you bagel like every bagel shop in NJ seems to be. I recently moved to Matawan fro North Jersey and since North Jersey has very good bagels, I have been on a mission to find a place that can closely match up to what I used to have. Gem’s house of bagels is now my go-to bagel shop. The service is excellent– they are all very nice. they have never messed up my order, and they are quick to move. Not only are the bagel’s absolutely delicious, I once ordered a Turkey sub from Gem’s house and it was by far the best Turkey sub I have ever had. They do not skimp you out on your meat in the slightest. Their idea of a half sub is actually quite hilarious because the half sub lasted me for two meals because it was so large. I highly recommend this place.

People from New York are good at 3 things: claiming they know what’s best(especially with the next two items on the list), pizza AND bagels! I’ve had some bagels in my lifetime that would make others look like white bread. Gem’s definitely has awesome bagels. After my first appointment in Holmdel, I had over an hour before my next one, which was only 10 minutes in distance away. So I drove aimlessly looking for a breakfast spot and ran into this«gem» in a shopping center.(See what I did there?) At first glance, the place is put together very well. The huge mural on the wall near the seating area is very nice; it gives off that feeling of an old time breakfast shop, which I enjoy very much. It was a typical bagel shop method of ordering: «Who’s next??» I ordered immediately and chose an onion bagel with vegetable cream cheese(my go to breakfast sandwich). It was delicious and I couldn’t have been more satisfied. Okay maybe I could’ve been… A couple things I didn’t like and why they didn’t get 5 stars: 1. They didn’t toast my bagel nor did they ask. I’m typically accustomed to an automatic toasting of my bagel or at least ask me. And 2. The drink selection was«eh»; no snapples, the 2 worst flavors of Naked juices and not even that hybrid orange juice with banana and strawberry in it. So I’m nitpicking a little bit, but I have to keep it real. Not everyone can get 5 stars, you gotta go above and beyond to get that feat. 4⁄5 — very respectable, will definitely return!

The bagels aren’t very good, particularly when you have Sheepshead Baygels a little further South on 35. They are a good sandwich shop though and the owners support the community they serve.

There is nothing better than a breakfast or lunch order from gems! Quick service and friendly staff always makes me go there instead of D&D, Wawa, or Quik check. They represent this area about as good as any establishment! Great job

Obviously NY has the best bagels but aside from that these are 2nd best. Wide variety and very tasty. They also have Wheat Everything Bagels which is great. Awesome deli sandwiches. not just your average Italian, turkey, etc. I moved out of the area and miss this place!

The requisite local bagel shop that doesn’t disappoint. In New Jersey there must be a law that each neighborhood must have a bagel shop. Each serves up fresh coffee with a bagel egg and cheese sandwich and it is always the perfect way to start the day. This one has a nice dine in area and a deli with more food options.

Surprised that this place only has two reviews but, from what I know, there are several locations scattered throughout suburban Jersey. Bf and I ordered the Rocket and the Sticky Situation. The Rocket includes pork, egg, cheese, bacon(75 cents extra for turkey bacon), and… HASHBROWNS. So delicious. We got this on a garlic bagel, which some people might find weird, but I thought it was delicious. The Sticky Situation is a French toast bagel(!!) with sausage and egg, drizzled with maple syrup. Both of these were so delicious and really unique as compared to other bagel sandwiches I’ve had. I also definitely recommend the hazelnut iced coffee, which is one of the best I’ve ever had. Rich hazelnut flavor without tasting artificial or overpowering the coffee roast. Feel free to bring your own drinks though. Minimal indoor/outdoor seating.

Awesome bagels and sandwiches. I recommend the Bagel Popper on a Jalapeño Cheddar Bagel(what’s with the up-charge for this bagel???) I ordered a wrap from them(I forget the name) but it’s turkey and hot cappy and the thing weighs a few pounds… the sandwiches may seem expensive but you get what you pay for! Staff is friendly. Take note: they only take cash unless it’s a catering order. The Costco down the road sells their gift cards for a added value! Also they close at 3!
