The Plaid Rhino

We were here for the All South Honor Band clinic and stayed at the Hampton Inn. I had read mixed reviews on this restaurant but several people had said they had great burgers so we thought we’d give it a shot. We were seated immediately. My first impression was that this place needs updating badly. But hey I’ve eaten at dives before that ended up having awesome food. About 15 people came in after us that were seated together. We waited and no server. The big table got their drinks and placed their orders. We were still waiting… No one came to our table. I asked the server of the large table if she knew who our server was. She said she would go get her. Ten minutes later we walked out. We were there for 30 minutes with NO SERVICE! They won’t get a second chance.

Didn’t get any service. Waiting for 20 min. And never got a server. Even asked someone there where our server was and she said «oh let me go get her» and 10 minutes past and nothing happened. Went to chilis and got the same great service I always get. When in doubt, Chilis.

The crawfish pasta was really good and the portion size was also great! Our waitress was very hospitable and courteous.

The bison burger is delicious, the french fries are bottomless, the service has been accommodating, and the game room is a breath of fresh air. You can’t go wrong with fifty-​cent margaritas on Tuesdays!

I eat here at least once a week, strictly because they are located right next door to where I work, and they offer a 5 dollar student burger with fries if you have a college ID card. While their food is fantastic, customer service is not always up to par. It has sometimes taken up to 30 minutes for me to get my order, and sometimes they do not charge me the discount for my college ID, even after I showed it to them and they confirmed my student affiliation. If you want great service, you have to make it a to go order so you can cater to yourself.

Food is awesome! They gave 5 dollars burgers on Mondays for students. Tuesday’s .50 cent margaritas. Friday’s is all you can eat catfish for 13.24. Game room for the kids while waiting for food. Games in the game room are free. Def a family establishment.

It seems like a college hangout, I’m not really into them, but the burger made it well worth the trip.

If you’re craving top notch burgers, this is the place to go! Not only are the burgers huge for the cheap price, but they’re also delicious. One thing I love is that they’re are totally customizable. You can add whatever you want on your burger making it unique to just you. The servers are very attentive and also make sure you’re satisfied with your meal. I don’t think my water ever got down past the halfway mark! Great food and excellent service, what more could you want from a restaurant?

Terrible. Went today and we sat down ordered our drinks and then we ordered our food. I asked for a medium rare burger and my dad got a shrimp poboy. About 25 minutes later our food came out. My burger was burnt and super dry and the fries were very small like I got what was at the bottom of the bag. our waitress, Rebecca, was very inattentive. We asked for napkins and never got any. We never got a refill either. Also the ketchup bottle on my table and the surrounding tables were practically empty. My family and I will not return.

Saw the billboard and stopped in. Ham poboy was excellent, fresh bread, tasty ham, just right on the dressings but they are huge! Instead of small or large it should say one or two. John had the burger and it was huge too. Definitely stop by if you’re hungry!

Stopped here on trip home from beach… Was greeted & door opened by a nice young lady… Drinks brought out fast & orders received with care… Hubby & daughter were still enjoying free game room when orders arrived & sweet waitress went to let them know to come eat — impressed!
We all 4 ordered burgers & all were amazing… Cooked to perfection & orders were spot-​on. Bottomless fries w/​remolaude & «comeback sauce» for dipping… Plastic keeper cups… A big hit & a great stop for this crew!

Great burgers and awesome customer service. We had lunch here after a long morning in the field. Highly recommend this place.

Recently I was in Hattiesburg for business and dined here for lunch. Fortunately, the other members of my party had dined at Plaid Rhino previously and had great suggestions.
We started with the fried green tomato appetizer! They are breaded with panko and are crunchy and tasty.
For lunch I had the Bison Burger and it was excellent! It was paired with hand-​cut fries and seasoned to perfection.
I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, a Louisiana native, and was pleased to find authentic Louisiana influenced food on the menu! He explained that almost everything is made from scratch in the kitchen with the exception of a couple of dressings.
The restaurant offers a full bar, that is off to the left of the main dining area. In addition there is a game room for the kids to enjoy while waiting for the food to arrive. (Note that they are quick to serve you, so the play won’t be too long!) The game room is located in the back of the dining area and is no where near the bar!
Service was good.
Note that you «earn» a free car wash with every meal. The code is on the bottom of your ticket! The owner explained that he owns several other businesses including a couple of car wash locations and he wanted to «reward» his Plaid Rhino customers.
The only challenge here, was finding the place. It is off of Hardy behind Dandy Dan’s Texaco. My google GPS had it as a destination, so use that.

We have visited this location multiple times, and have never been disapointed in food quality.
One annoying detail, they seem to always have a Unilocal Check in offer displayed, however, we have never been able to use one… once you get to the location and check in, the details will show it long ago expired. Management when asked, seems to have no concept of how to remove or update them. We suggested the owner contact Unilocal directly.
Now back to the experience. .We have dined at lunch and dinner hours. Service has always been friendly. Being a college town, much of the staff and many of the customers are in that age group. It is a casual atmosphere with a small bar to one side of the entrance and the dining room to the other. There is also a game room w free to play arcade games at the back.
We have tried a couple of the burgers. They are hand patties with good quality buns and toppings. They can be cooked to order, and they will serve medium rare.
We have tried a few of the apps, with the fried pickles with house made «comeback sauce». They are a little crisp and the thin crunchy breading holds up well.
They probably serve my favorite shrimp po boy in the area. We have also tried the roast beef version, which was good, but the shrimp is my favorite. It is loaded with nice sized seasoned fried shrimp and fresh toppings that you can customize to your liking.
Bottom line… friendly service, free games, good burgers and po boy sandwiches. Just be sure to check the details of any check in offers before attempting to use one.

Fun, upbeat and good for young and old alike. Food choices were good and prepared well. Good atmosphere for social gatherings and kids arcade will keep them busy as well.

I only ate here twice. both times were bad experiences. the second time me and my friend were sat at a dirty table. the whole place just seemed unclean. after 15 minutes of swatting away flies, we got up and left because Noone actually came to wait on

This is a really great choice for people with kids. The free video games are a big draw for me and my family. The burgers are great, though kind of pricey now that they don’t have $ 5 burger nights or the other special that replaced it. Still it’s a good burger with a lot of choices to customize. The fried pickles are also really good. I usually get the burger, but the roast beef sandwich is also good. It’s definitely a casual place, not fancy. Price range is a bit tricky here. You can get out for under $ 10/​person but in most cases it would be about $ 12-​$ 15 for an adult. They do have a kids menu that is very reasonably priced. Service is usually very good and they are happy to make some modifications for health issues.

After a short Interstate drive, and final stop to spend the night before heading to the Gulf Coast, my mother and I stumbled upon this restaurant. We were nicely greeted entering the restaurant as the man working at the restaurant opened the door for us for convenience. The server for our lunch experience was attentive and has been answering my question to difference between small and large size meats in a detailed manner. The seafood platter my mom had was very delicious, and my small-​size crawdad po’boy tastes like I’m part of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The prices for the food is not bad, but the po’boys cost around $ 15.
Now, do me a favor when going to this restaurant, and order anything seafood; as in seafood po’boy, seafood platter, etc.
Even the best part about this, is that you can go to the attached arcade room and play as many games as you want for free. That’s right, FREE!
Bottom line is if you are leaving I-​59 and heading to Gulfport for vacation purposes or family, be sure to check this restaurant out.

I had a good burger and fries for a reasonable price. Their fries are bottomless also. Service was good. I would come back!

Refused to honor their advertised specials. If you’re trying this place for the first time, ignore the check in offers and any other advertised specials.
No beer specials. They have the cheapest beer in town… in bottles.
Pretty disappointed that they are advertising a November check in offer in June and won’t honor it. Don’t think I’ll be coming back as there are plenty of beer and burger joints in this town.

Okay, I was a little perturbed by that experience but don’t want to ignore the food and service in my review. It’s been four months since we went in to the Plaid Rhino and it wasn’t all bad.
Pros: The burgers were delicious. Fries were bottomless (with caveats). Wait staff was friendly. They do student ID burger specials at certain times.
Cons: They nickle and dime you here; $.25 for this, $.75 for that… upcharge, extra charge… draft beer is pretty expensive too.
I’d give 2.5 stars if I could, but I can’t. Since Mugshots is close by with cheaper beer and as good or better (preferences) burgers, I’d have to leave the Plaid Rhino at 2 stars. I’ll try them again sometime if friends choose to go here.
