Awesome stop for BBQ on your way home from skiing. It’s right off exit 1 at I-89 — the Killington/Quechee, VT exit. You know it’s awesome when you see the smoker in the parking lot! Only thing that would be nice would be to have some tables to sit and eat so you don’t need to get BBQ sauce on your steering wheel in the car. And they have Gifford’s ice cream. Go with the Muddy Bean Boots — best flavor going.

This is a great hidden gem! We return to this spot whenever we are in the area. The BBQ is delicious and juicy. They smoke everything on site. The brisket is so tender that it falls apart. The ribs are also yummy. They also hand make chocolates that are really good. Everything is also really affordable. We usually get the sampler platter for around $ 20. It’s enough food for two people. You would never believe what you’ll find in this country store. They’re a great, family-owned business. I highly recommend anyone in the area to stop by and give it a try.

In all fairness, this review is for product availability, condition of store and customer service. Based on the great reviews, we drove 15+ minutes just to get a hold of their well rated whole chicken, but both attempts yielded nothing except disappointment. During the first visit, after waiting in an empty store for more than several minutes, a not-so-friendly lady behind the counter informed us the chicken is usually sold out by 1pm. It was 4pm. Okay, we’ll try again. On the second try, we arrived around noon and waited for an agitated guy behind the dimly lit food counter while he impatiently prepped an order for the customer ahead of us. As he was doing so, I couldn’t help but notice the unsanitary condition of his work space… especially all the flies that were busily assisting him. That should’ve been a clear enough sign for us to leave. So before the guy behind the filthy counter actually asked us what we wanted, he went about telling us what he didn’t have. Okay. He didn’t mention the chicken. After placing our order, he then informed us he was out of chicken and that this item is mostly available on weekends only. Well, at least the flies had a field day at enjoying their food. I guess it turns out the better news is that there wasn’t any chicken.

We ordered brisket sandwiches and were disappointed after having read several rave reviews. Service was extremely slow. Brisket was tough and over smoked.

I think Route 4 Country Store caters to the camp ground place across the road. The store was empty when I went in(empty for food and customers) and not many items inside had prices on them. Tourist beware. I will try them again in the fall to see if anything has changed.

Thank you Unilocal for helping us find this hidden gem! On the way back from Canada with a few buddies we were starving and craving BBQ. We started with a basic Google search and found this place about 20 minutes down the road. We were all happy we did! They smoked all their own meats and the results were delicious. We didn’t know what to get, so all three of us ordered the sampler plate and we weren’t disappointed. Succulent, savory, smoked ribs, pulled pork and brisket paired with their delicious tangy BBQ sauce and a side was exactly what the heart desired. All this for 20 and some change. Best Tasting and Valued BBQ I’ve had in years. I’ll definitely be back when I’m in the area.

Hard to even give this establishment one star since they wouldn’t even serve us. Four of us walked in a little before 3 in the afternoon and waited while the young lady running the place finished with the two people ahead of us. Started to place our order for four samplers when she informed us she didn’t have time since she had to go teach a yoga class. Said we could come back in an hour and someone could serve us then. Found a great place down in WRJ.

Stopped there a little early so the beef brisket wasn’t available sadly. It was like 1130 so I was sorta bummed. But! I did have a grinder of pulled pork. HOLYCOW(Or pig in this case)! This was amazing! For a little hidden gem, it had some great grub. Was just heading home from mount Washington back to NJ, this was exactly what I needed! Highly re commend it

The website is not up to date they’re currently only open on the weekends. Very disappointed I made the trip Update: 5÷31÷2015 Made a return trip(called to confirm they were open first) and the brisket sub with pickles and onions was well worth it. The wife had pulled pork and it was a bit dry. Seems they are on reduced hours on the summer and the selection in the store certainly reflects it.

Rarely do i comment on a restaurant. .being a San Antonio girl who recently moved to Vermont I’ve had a taste of «Vermont«BBQ from another popular spot in Whiteriver Junction(name rhymes with patties).so naturally I had my opinions about sampling BBQ from another Vermont place. I stumbled upon this place thinking it was a full restaurant that i had a coupon for. walked in. .its a country store. I said.“sorry.thought you were a restaurant«.he said.“I sell BBQ. would you like some.(thinking about my last experience. .i said NOTHANKS).he said. .just try a small sample of my brisket.again.i said no. about to leave. them turned around and said okay. A SMALLSAMPLE. he went to the back. came back with about 4 slices of brisket. .i tasted a small piece. people when I tell you this was one of the BEST brisket I’ve EVER tasted(remember. .Texas girl here) this man. who cooks on those precious smokers outside his«country store«has a GIFT and its BBQ. I mean a real gift… you know the kind when people CARED about the product they put out… So. after tasting the brisket. he offered a sample of pulled pork. OMG!.. melt on ya mouth Tennessee style tender. so of course. what’s next. RIBS…(faints).I FINALLYFOUNDTHESPOTFORBBQ. Competition quality BBQ. BOYISGIFTED… I almost don’t want to expose my find. cause i know when people get turned on to this spot. he gonna sell out.quickly. .daily…but imma become his best friend so I can always call him to save me a plate.

Wow. I was surprised, to say the least, at how good this was. I really only pulled off the road to get gas, then a quick bite. Made a left at the Mobile station and voila. BBQ. Had the brisket and my daughter had the pulled pork. Waited forever on line: one person serving a huge crowd on a Sunday. Worth the wait. It was gooooood. Good. Buy some cider doughnuts too. Recomended.

Great food. Nicely smoked brisket! The icecream was a little different. It is hard icecream put through a press to make it soft.

I got the eggnog soft serve which was amazing. They had a big variety of flavors to choose from. My mom ordered the cheesecake flavor & my sister had ordered the apple pie flavor. I tasted both and they are both so yummy as well. The only downside to the place was the cashier girl wasn’t friendly.

Just OK brisket no smoke ring but had heavy smoke taste very odd. Quality was poor large chunks of fat plus brisket should pull apart easy this had to much fiber left. I didn’t get a good rub flavor just salt Sauce seemed like bottled stuff like sweet baby rays Was excepting better from the reviews But I have been to all 4 major BBQ cities And even there was hit and miss So maybe it was an off day???

My husband and I came here for the brisket. We ordered a brisket sandwich with pickles and onions(per suggestion from the guy making the sandwich, he knew his stuff) and got the maple beans too. As soon as you get out of your car, you are surrounded by the Smokey scent of brisket in the air. We sat outside and watched people come and go. The brisket was smokey, well flavored and melt in your mouth good. The bbq sauce added another level of flavor, and the onions and pickles made the sandwich complete. The employees were super friendly, and told us about the Cabot store a few miles down the road(yay cheese!) And we also picked up a home made peanut butter cup. My husband approved of it’s size, and the cup was delicious. We will be back again!

Imagine our surprise when we were looking for a bite to eat on our way back from Burlington, VT when we stumbled upon probably the best BBQ joint I’ve ever been too! Seriously, the smoker is huge and pumping out a dreamy aroma that must drive the bears crazy! The brisket melts in your mouth and is truly to die for! Hubby and I each got the sampler and it was enough for several meals. Meat, maple smoked beans, what more can one ask for?! The only problem was. .. driving home wanting to actually go into a meat coma! Oh, the store was excellent too! Lots of cool stuff to explore. The owners were super friendly and very helpful! We will definately head back their on our next trip!

My husband helped me eat the huge ice cream cone. Thankfully I decided to get the extra special big waffle cone and the single scoop filled it up and over the edge! Barbecue sampler is great with two styles of ribs and brisket. Maple baked beans. Feast for a King – at least for our hungry campers

This place is a barbecue mecca and the pitmaster KNOWS whats up. Driving to one of our many cheese/syrup destinations we passed this store and I noticed a huge smoker out front and immediately threw caution to the wind and swerved across the oncoming lane into the parking lot. Gotta try the pulled pork, it was moist, perfectly seasoned, had flavorful pieces of bark mixed throughout that you could see a distinct smoke ring on. I asked for sauce on the side so i could taste the meat & sauce separate, fearing the sauce would be inferior, but boy was I wrong. The sauce had just the right amount of spicy sweetness, with a bit of vinegar coming through, it complemented the meat perfectly. We devoured the sandwich and I went back inside to sample the ribs. ½ rack later and i’m in BBQ heaven. They were perfectly moist, pulled away from the bone easily, but still had a bit of bite to them. The rub was spicy, different from the pork shoulder, but gave a great flavor to the meat. I recommend checking this place out if your within an hour, it’s worth the drive.
