Went on a recommendation to try the fish tacos. With a name like Jalapeño’s, it sounded good. Got the standard free nachos and salsa. The chips were terrible. Right outta the bag and warmed up. The salsa was like ketchup with a couple pieces of onion in it, no exaggeration, it was horrible. Not even the Cholula hot sauce could help it. Decided to go with the«Whole Enchilada» with steak. Should’ve went with the tacos. The steak was like something out of a bag from Costco with waaay too much black pepper. It had a little salsa verde and so much cheese it was overwhelming. The beans were also over seasoned and covered in cheese. The service was okay. Not bad, not great. Although I tend to be put off by any server who includes themselves into the group«Have we decided on drinks?» «Do we know what we want for dinner?» Unless you plan on splitting the bill, just drop the«we» part. Price wasn’t bad, less than $ 30 for two entrées and two soft drinks. Bottom line: This place is more like a bar with an expanded menu for drinkers than a restaurant with a bar. Too bad. With a name like Jalapeños, there is plenty of potential for great TexMex, but without a good chef, it’s just another bar with a menu.

Not a recommended Mexican place. The salsa wasn’t very good. Food overall was not great.

My «create your own» bowl was very good. The portion was on the smaller side, but I didn’t get any protein in it so it might be more filling with meat than without. The atmosphere is loud but fun and the drink specials are great.

My «go to» stop for lunch as I frequently travel Interstate 81. Staff is super friendly! Owner checks table satisfaction when he’s in. The create your own Enchilada Style chicken burrito is BIG and FABULOUS! My wife is «that» picky eater. She LOVES to stop here because their steak for her burrito bowl is tender and delicious. Also, their sweet iced tea tastes perfectly fresh brewed and not processed. I ate there today, and cannot wait to eat there again in a couple of weeks!

Went there again today ordered the usual classic burger or jalapeño burger to go with skillet cookie. They didn’t ask me how I wanted my burger and they tried to tell me they would not give me milk instead of a soda which they always did for me. The owners wife/bar tender came and corrected the staff that they could do that and it was fine. They told me to sit at the bar to wait as usual for my take out order. I sat there patiently for 40 minutes until the bartender/owners wife came and asked me why I was there(she had asked me if I wanted to order a drink I said no). I told her I had been waiting for 40 minutes for my order the man sitting next to me even told her«this guy has been here since before i even got here Vegas(her nickname)» I was very calm and patient but really frustrated when I FINALLYGOTMYCOLDDRYBURGERANDFRIES! it was way overcooked tasted like a dried slab of ground beef and gross fries that were not the usual fantastic quality I got here. I didn’t expect to be treated like a nuisance at a place I go to frequently and pay to go and eat. Really dissapointed.

Salsa= spaghetti-os without the os. Watered down tomato paste with a couple of onions. Got the chicken quesadilla. It was lukewarm cheese and chicken. Nothing else inside… Just cheese and chicken. Real creative… Maybe should spend less money on making the place look so nice and more money on ingredients. It was so bland. Rice and beans on the side. Rice was fine beans had a lump of half melted cheese on top. Boyfriend had a couple of bites of his burrito bowl. She wanted to box up his food after us just getting our food 5 min before. Needless to say we left pretty much the entire meal there. Will not be returning.

I didn’t find this place to be anything special, but it’s not bad a for a casual meal near JMU. I got the Make Your Own bowl for lunch, and highly recommend their mango pineapple chipotle salsa. I also really enjoyed their lollipop chicken with sweet chili sauce(though, be warned that the sauce is incredibly thick so be ready to get a little messy).

If you are in Harrisonburg, and you are craving Mexican food then this is the place. I lived in California before moving here and this is the only place where I can find good Mexican food. Must try!

Ok… So completely scratch my last review. I found out that the server gave me a quesadilla and I guess I just accepted it :| anyways. The actual enchilada this time is really good too. Both the quesadilla and the enchiladas are great! Our server Danielle was new but super attentive and sweet. I love the green enchilada sauce. Soo great. Would definitely get it again. The price for the amount that you get is incredible and the portion is huge. I only ate 1 there but it comes with 3. So delicious!

Went there last night and ordered the steak Fajitas, they were the best I have ever eaten. I order this at every Mexican restaurant and will go back to get them again. The steak was great and was not greesy, which is so common at most places. Staff was great. Want a good fajita, try them.

Nice atmosphere and staff. Waited much too long for straight forward burrito order. Large portion that were much too salty(either the black beans and/or cilantro rice were the culprit). No interest in returning.

I am surprised that this place isn’t always full. Great environment, lovely staff, and delicious food. I have to say that my experience here was nothing short of fantastic !!! I will come back when I’m in the area. The owner of the restaurant also greeted us and made us feel special! Great food, great service!

These are the restaurants that help you understand what food not to eat. I have eaten once or maybe twice at Taco Bell and think it was better than this. The signs were ominous when a mango margarita came with a wilted, almost bad lime piece on top. The procession got progressively worse. They served pickled japapeno on taco but a dish later had fresh ones. The tomatoes were a bit old and had black colorings. The lady who was waiting probably got our ask of spicy wrong and got a 911 sauce for my kids wings, we had to dip it in water and give him. Gauc was the worst, felt like I just got a box of refrigerated ones from Costo and dolloped on the plate… the stale chips were ofcourse perfect pairing. For someone who cooks pretty decent Tex-Mex with organic ingredients and fresh fish at home. this was quite an expensive parody!

The staff is super friendly — the owner is likely to say hello and ensure you’re equally satisfied. I’ve had just about every meal on the menu and have yet to be disappointed. The portions are generous and the beer is cold. Make sure to ask for chips and salsa — it’s free but you have to usually ask. If your looking for a quit bite or a semi-new place I. Town give them a try.

Really good Tex Mex for an east coast town. And surprisingly festive atmosphere for a strip mall type setting.(Could do with if you were college students, but I suppose that’s a major part of their business.) we had the make your own burritos and salad bowl and I have the tacos Al Pastor. Everything was great… especially after I added a side of guacamole. The Rito was huge and my partner took him home for lunch tomorrow. He did comment that the flavors did not seem mixed enough, that it was too separated by rice and beans and then cheese. But he’s a picky eater. Tacos were delish and so was the Marg! Not too sweet at all.

Service was great! Food(good-sized portions for the price, too!) & drinks were great! Atmosphere was great! We got the queso and chips, which was pretty good — standard for most dinner trips to a Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurant. We also got their salsa, which was unique but good! I could definitely taste the cilantro and spicy undertones but it wasn’t too spicy at all. We ordered the Tacos al Pastor and the«Create Your Own» burrito. Both were great and very tasty! To drink, we had water and the Jalapeño Signature Margaritas. At first, I thought $ 10 was pricy for a margarita that came in a mug. However, the bartender made it well worth the $ 10 and didn’t skip on flavor or alcohol. The entire dinner was great and I can’t wait to go back and try some other stuff on their menu!

Very impressed with this restaurant. Great food and great prices. Each time I dine here I intend to try new items on the menu but I can’t seem to keep myself away from the fish tacos. Yum.
