A & T’s is OPEN! New ownership and food is still great!

Peruvian chicken was spot on. The service was fantastic and fast. My only suggestion would be to add more side choices. With Peruvian chicken being more on the healthy side, I would like side choices that were not all fried options.

Terrific place. I opted for the gyro and fries(which were great), but my lunch company tells me the chicken and yuca fries are not to be missed. Very friendly and helpful staff.

A & T is exactly what my stepdad and I were looking for on the way through Harrisonburg. They have great seasoned chicken off the grill, perfectly fried yucca, spicy salsa verde and a friendly staff that got us fed real quick. I was also pleasantly surprised at the plaintain ñapita they gave us with our order. If you’re passing through on 81, this place is well worth the extra time off the highway.

Closed Wednesday’s? Wth? I’m giving 4 stars because I hear it’s great and I don’t want to hurt their score, but I showed up on Wednesday for lunch and they’re closed? Seriously?

It’s hard to give less than four stars to a place with excellent service and good food with dinner for under six dollars. Yes, you read that right, I paid less than six dollars for my chicken/cassava/salad, which was good and filling. Most of the menu is under ten dollars, and I can see how it’s popular among the students/workers in the area. I come here whenever I’m in the area, and most of the customers seem to be regulars.

Excellent chicken and sides. Great value. Hole-in-wall atmosphere. Fed three adults and eight kids for less than $ 30!

Love this place. Great deal and tastes great too! The salad does come from a pre-packaged mix, but the yumminess of the green spicy sauce for your chicken still makes it worth the visit.

I’m still sitting in A & T now as I write this review. It’s 3:17pm on a Monday and I ate 80%of my plate because I was starving driving up 81 from Charlotte. I can understand why college students who eat the same thing everyday and locals who have a lack of hispanic food in the local area would rate this place 4 or 5 stars. I am from northern Virginia where there are plentiful delicious hispanic restaurants and I’ve lived in Peru for 2 months in 2012, eating a ridiculous amount of juicy Peruvian chicken. I ordered the number 7 which was the ¼ chicken with salad and yuca. The chicken was okay. Yuca sat under the heat lamps too long; it was hard and dry. I ordered some rice on the side, which was also dry. The fast food chain Guapos is twice as good as the food here. Maybe if the food was fresh or recently cooked, I would have had a decent experience.

Well worth it for the money! The rotisserie chicken was very tender and flavorful. The plantains were crispy but not dry. The highlight as many others have said was the green jalapeño sauce. We like it hot, but if you don’t, beware. We rate on a flavor to cost ratio… So while it did not compare with the 4 star meal we had in NYC, neither did it cost $ 365. We would certainly visit again.

It seems like every college/university has an eatery that students and locals love and others wonder what all the fuss is about. This is that kind of place. === THEGOOD === — The chicken, thankfully. While it’s not the juiciest I’ve ever had, it was still pretty good. I wouldn’t mind having it again, but I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to get it. === THEBAD === — Salad seemed to come straight from a bag. — Plastic forks aren’t good for eating the chicken nor the rice. — Seating can be limited, especially if there are a few big(6+ people) groups

In town for a visit, and stopped by for dinner close to 7pm tonight due to the positive comments… glad I did! Like others have already said, the chicken was delicious and the sides were good. Service was quick and very friendly. Would love to eat here again if I’m in the area.

Just amazing food. I went here all the time back in college and miss it terribly. The chicken is Peruvian style, comparable to Rotisserie. It’s juicy, full of flavor and tastes delicious. It comes with a choice of sides: fries, yucca or rice. The yucca is amazing, and you should definitely try it, but I personally preferred rice just because I’m a huge rice lover. It also comes with two sauces: yellow sauce(more creamy) and the spicier green sauce(sort of a minced pepper sauce). I loved the green sauce, its freshly made and tastes delicious, but it is very spicy. If you’re not into spice, try mixing the yellow and green sauces. Pha(the owner /manager) is one of the warmest personalities I’ve met and a very friendly and caring woman. She’ll happily help you with any special requests(i.e. my vegetarian friend sort of made her own dish once). It is cash only, so bring cash or use the ATM located in the parking lot. Prices are also very cheap. $ 5 will get you a good meal last time I was here. The menu is very simple and each combination is listed separately. That’s because a lot of Spanish speaking people come and they wanted the menu to be very simple so they could just say a number and get exactly what they want. There are other things on the menu, but to be honest, I’ve never in my life ever gotten anything other than the ¼ or ½ chicken dishes. Just stick to that, because that’s what people come here for. Also, this isn’t a 5 star restaurant with a fancy ambiance. It’s just a simple casual place to come grab some amazing food. The food is the draw here and why there are so many positive reviews. As an aside, they don’t have a website, but they do have a facebook page that they keep up to date(their phone number changed once, I think). Double check that page, because if hours or contact info changes, that’s seems to be where they post it. I was a bit surprised by some of the negative reviews here, so I just thought I’d state this: This is a chicken place. That’s why it’s got«Chicken» in the name. If you don’t like chicken, don’t go on Unilocal posting a negative review just because you didn’t like the type of cuisine. I don’t like roller coasters. You don’t see me 1 or 2 starring every amusement park because they have roller coasters. That’s assumed when you’re talking about an amusement park. That being said: Definitely come here. A&T’s Chicken will always have a special place in my heart.

I was in town for work and this place came up when searching for food. It is a mom and pop place and a hole-in-the-wall but don’t let that stop you from going. After all, why go to a restaurant you can go to any day of the week no matter where you are when you can go to these types of hidden gems. The chicken was delicious as I expected. The meat was almost fall off the bone. I loved the Yuca was well! Thy do accept cards even though the menu you see online says it does not.

I love the fact that a Cambodian mastered Peruvian food. Then again, when you’re good at your craft, it becomes YOUR craft, no matter what ethnicity. The menu is simple, and simplicity always wins with me. Her chicken is cooked and seasoned well… and I have to agree with everyone else… The fried yucca from this woman is delicious! I may be biased because she sorta makes it the way my mom made it when I was younger, so she took me back home! Well done! I also love that they offer Jarritos, Inca Kola and… wait for it… COCORICO!(Also something bringing me back to my younger years in NY) Coco Rico is coconut soda, and I might even say it ranks up there with my top 5 favorite drinks… if we are not looking at healthy, good for you beverages… COCOOOOORICCCCOOOOO!!!

A quick grab n go spot. Very simple menu Chicken is the sun and their sides just rotate around it… The chicken is seasoned with a cumin/coriander mix. The jalapeño sauce and mayo sauce is even better if you just mix the two. Except for the YUCCAFRIES!!! They go great with the chicken but I could eat that alone for satisfaction. It reminds me of local chinese fast food places in NY but alot cleaner!

I’m definitely not the norm here it seems. I really don’t get how this place can have so many four– and five-star reviews, even if you do really like the chicken, there is just plenty else about what brings a good restaurant together that isn’t present here. First of all, there is almost nothing on the menu except variations of the exact same chicken dish. All the combos basically consist of choosing whether you want yucca or rice, and then a quarter, half or whole chicken. The dishes also come with iceberg lettuce out of a bag as your ‘salad.‘ Now because I don’t enjoy sucking my dead chicken meat off the bone like a caveman, I went with the only other menu item –the gyro. It was delicious with a generous portion of meat in a warm, fluffy pita. The sauce was good too, but it was ultimately disappointing that I paid nearly $ 8 for just that — unlike everything else, it came with no sides, no semblance of a vegetable to accompany it, nothing. Also, they only sell bottled drinks, so no Coke remix or even a traditional fountain machine here. Blech — why would I want to drink out of plastic with my sit-down meal? The exterior and interior of the restaurant looks dingy and run-down. The one person working there(Pha, the owner, based on what I see in other reveiews) was a very pleasant person. Service was OK I guess, but there’s really not much to go on there — you order, then you pick up your order at the counter when it’s ready, and you clear your own table. So that’s A&T. I did try the chicken that my girlfriend had, and it tasted like smoke. I guess if that’s your thing, then OK. I personally didn’t buy into the hype here and will probably never go back. It’s just not for me.

My partner and I visit A&T Chicken every weekend. The food is always delicious, and the quality is always consistent. The chicken is very moist and bursting with flavor. The yucca has great texture, and the honey-mustard dipping sauce is the perfect accent to its starchy goodness. For that added kick, you can use the minced green pepper sauce that comes with your order. Bottom line, you can’t get a better meal for this price in Harrisonburg. And lastly, you can’t mention A&T Chicken without talking about Pa, the owner. She is as sweet and genuine of a person as they come. You are always greeted upon entering the restaurant, and bid a kind farewell when you leave. Pa makes it a point to learn every customer’s name, so if you’re a repeat visitor, don’t be too surprised when she greets you by name when you return. This level of customer service and caring is so hard to find anywhere that, when combined with the great food, A&T Chicken is truly a gem in the city of Harrisonburg.
