My wife, two kids and I all went into the town of Hana Pepe as we heard they have a Friday night Art walk and lots of great places to eat. Bobbies had very high ratings and the food sounded excellent. Unfortunately, our experience was much different than the other people who have rated Bobbie’s previously. The food was average, the local people were rude, and there are no restrooms to be found other than one solitary Sanican for approximately 300 to 400 people that are participating in the art walk. Like to stand in line? Then this is the place for you! Let me qualify my rude local people comment. I went to order our food while my wife looked for a table with our kids who are one and a half and 3 ½. She was approaching a table when a local Hawaiian couple jumped in front of her and exclaimed«We will be sitting here.» Another table for four opened up and would’ve been perfect for us, but oh no, the same couple decided they had to have that table and again cut my wife off from sitting down. Needless to say we won’t be going there again. Both Bobbie’s and the town to Hana Pepe will not be on our list when we return to Kauai.

I drove through town on a Friday night on the way back from Waimea Canyon. That’s Art Night and Bobbie’s fires up the barbecue and grills its meats. I ordered a kalbi short rib plate dinner, with mac salad and rice. The ribs were juicy and flavorful and the mac salad was good, as well. The staff was pleasant. I was surprised by their cash-only policy but luckily had some bills in my pocket.

Stumbled upon this place in Hanapepe and decided to give it a try. I’m so glad we did. Kirk was super helpful and welcoming. I had the #7, roast pork, Korean fried chicken and saimin. It was all very tasty and filling. Great place to have a great meal.

Bobbie’s is by far our favorite plate lunch spot on Kauai! It was so good, we went there twice during our week-long stay on the island. We first stopped at this unassuming spot in old Hanapepe town for lunch on our way back from Waimea Canyon. There are probably half a dozen tables inside with folding plastic chairs, plus a few more tables and chairs outside. Exactly the type of minimalist design you had hoped for at your favorite hole-in-the-wall. A nice gentleman(presumably the proprietor?) helped us navigate through the menu. I ordered the Huli Huli chicken plate, which comes with 2 scoops of rice and mac salad(or tossed salad, but why would you do that?). Hubby went with a combo plate of roast pork(it was like pulled pork with gravy on top), Korean fried chicken, a couple of scoops of rice, and fried saimin. Everything was delicious, but the highlights were definitely the Huli Huli chicken and Korean fried chicken. The Huli Huli chicken apparently goes through a 2-day brine, which includes pineapple juice. The result is juicy, tasty chicken with some nice char. If you love the combination of crunchy/sweet/salty/spicy, then the Korean fried chicken is not to be missed. Chunks of chicken are lightly floured, fried, and then toss in this super addicting sweet and slightly spicy sauce. And the hubby was obsessed with their fried saimin – cooked up with bits of bacon and seasoned with dashi. We went back for dinner later that week. Thankfully, they’re opened until 8pm on Thursday-Saturday and until 8:30pm on Friday, which is great considering most stores close by 5pm on the island. The hubby went for another combo plate – this one came with about 5 lbs of food including roast pork, Huli Huli chicken, katsu, and fried saimin. Of course, I had to go with the Korean fried chicken plate. Again, we devoured the food(I’d probably ditch the katsu next time because it wasn’t nearly as good as everything else). The portions are generous, especially the combo plates, but why share when you can’t get this plate lunch this good on the mainland? There’s not a whole lot to see in Hanapepe, but Bobbie’s serves ono grinds that makes you want to move to Kauai. Oh, and it’s cash only!

ONO Delicious Hawaiian Food in Historic Hanapepe. Like everyone else recommended, totally go for the #7 meal option: 7 — Da Mean Box. It comes with pulled roast pork PLUS korean fried chicken PLUS fried saimen topped with mac on rice. YUMMY! We also got the LauLau plate(pork wrapped and steamed in a taro leaf) — we of course choose to add an order of fried Saimen for a small fee. Totally worth it. The portions are HUGE so unless you are eating for a whole family– you can totally share an order with amongst 2 people. Totally satisfying hawaiian comfort food. Friendly service. They were patient and supportive while we tourists vacillated forever about which meals to choose. Remember the abbreviations! Mac= Mac salad, Toss= Tossed greens.

First timer. I got the #7 the most popular one they have. I have to say, skip this one and just go for the Korean chicken. That chicken is amazing!!! So crispy, juicy, flavorful, little spicy, sweet, salty… I’m drooling now :) I want the recipe! One plate feeds 2 people easily. I’m waiting til my next trip to come back again. This was one of the 2 places I had the best food during my whole trip.

Went there for the first time and bought Fried noodles, Korean Fried chicken and the pulled pork with gravy plates. The girl that took our order was so friendly and helpful. We local, but live in Lihue. So we asked what they were known for.. the pulled pork with gravy plate and the Korean chicken plate. The combos very popular. We loved the all the plate lunches. The one I want to eat again is the pork with gravy! Will definitely be going back. I don’t have any pictures to post.. in our tummies!

The food is delicious. The service is awesome. The price is right. My favorite is the roast pork, and my fiancée won’t eat anything but«The Mean Box» which he will literally inhale. I did sneak some of his Korean chicken and I can understand why! Fried saimin is super good too. Also, Bobby is so friendly and such a nice guy. Love this place.

I read all the reviews and was a little curious. So happy we ventured to Bobbie’s. Omg. Yum. They were out of Teri beef and ahi so I was not sure what to get. She recommended the Ono and what a great suggestion. My husband had the surf and turf deal and I had the Ono platter. Get the salad since it comes w rice. So worth the trip. Do it. And bring cash.

So good! I have no idea if it’s authentic but it sure feels like it would be and it tastes amazing! Had the Korean chicken single plate but asked for some gravy on the side to dip the chicken in. The chicken is amazing on its own but really a treat with a bit of gravy and rice in each bite.

The valet told us this was the place to go in Hanapepe— and they were doggone right! This is hearty island fare at its best. My wife got a pulled pork sandwich that was very good– I got a #7; and man, not only were the portions generous, but everything was made with lots of love and the flavors were great. Really recommend it if you’re spending an afternoon walking the art galleries and need some sustenance!!! Loved it!

Okay seriously love this place! I was looking for another substitute restaurant near our condo, but the other Hawaiian plate places don’t come close! By the way, you could easily share this meal with a friend. So good and well priced for the amount of food you get. Mac salad was and is my favorite so far on this island.

Good food and PLENTY! Ordered(which is served on a bed of rice): #7 — Da Mean Box Pulled Roast Pork w/Gravy Korean Chicken With Fried Saimin #3 — Da Kekaha Hamburger Steak w/Gravy, Onions, and Mushrooms Sisters Chicken(Substitute) Huli Chicken With Mac Salad Every item was DAH-LICIOUS!!! ;) Pulled Pork tastes a little like Kalua pork. Korean Chicken, to my husband who does not like anything spicy, is spicy for him. I thought it was good! Fried Saimin also good… homemade! Sisters Chicken similar to Foodland Fried Chicken and Tanioka’s Chicken! Yum! Huli Chicken also good… slight shoyu/Teri taste to it. Mac Salad is okay too! I would recommend this place to anyone. Husband and I couldn’t finish the two plates… the amount left amounted to a whole plate lunch! Seriously!!! :)

Came here during Friday Art Night. We were super hungry and it seemed like the best option for the area. Got the chicken special & the ribs. Omg so much food even for 3 ppl. Good bang for your buck. Literally got half a chicken. Meats were perfectly seasoned and barbecued. Chicken was nice and juicy. Not overly greasy or dry. Won me over even for a girl who isn’t a fan of bbq. But nothing I couldnt get in Cali. Wish there was indoor seating cuz the flies and heat made food less enjoyable. Ono rating: 3.5
