After a long windy turn by turn 3 – 4 hour drive my stomach was about to explode with nothing inside. So made a long stop at this spot to relax and improve the disconnect between my brain and stomach. After soaking my feet for a while and staring at the ocean for a while, my body was feeling almost normal. Now the best part of being at this beach was watching the children learn to swim with their elders and the older kids jump off a ledge and splash into the calm ocean waves. The locals were out playing card games and jamming to oldies and eating food. It was nice to see a community and culture in full drive. Note: parking was a bit of an issue because it was weekend and this place was packed. The bathrooms were also a bit dirty but there was enough toilet paper so in the end everything worked out. Above all, I would definitely come back to this spot even if I have to endure another round of nausea due to the curvaceous roads.

The road to Hana is intense but there’s a light at the end of your travels for at the end of that Treacherous road lays the harbors beach of Hana. There is a small shop that sells great snacks and convenient lunch items. The beach is harbors so the waves are friendly and offer a sheltered cove feel to it. There is usually moderate traffic along the beach area offering Hana road travelers a nice resting spot before undertaking the long road back to the resorts on the birthstone of the island. We arrived on the beach kinda by accident. Just follow the traffic and you’ll find your spot right under the palm tree lateen beach cove. There’s plenty of parking further down the beach. I would suggest by passing the early parking groups and park freely near the end of the beach.

This the best beach I’ve ever been to. Clam waves. Easy to swim in. Clean and fun. I felt very safe here as I am not an experienced swimmer but I love the water. There are clean restrooms and a café. I wish all beaches were like this!!! I want to stay in Hana next time just so I can swim here daily.

Great stopping point in Hana. Was during the week, so not crowded at all. Local families hanging out and having BBQs. Black sand(or at least darker) plus great views. Tutus snack shop across the way. Shaded areas to chill and picnic.

If you drive all the way to Hana, take a detour off the main road and head here. A nice quiet park with a nice view. Tourist won’t find any eats or rentals here. This is actually refreshing. If you bring a picnic lunch, this is a good place to stop and eat it. If you take the Road to Hana, bring your bathing suits and take a dip in the refreshing Hawaiian waters.

This is a very relaxing place to hang out while in Hana. It’s normally very busy especially on the weekends, filled with mostly Hana residents as well as tourists. FACILITIES: There is a small covered pavillion with wooden picinic tables. I’m not sure if you have to reserve them or they’re first come, first served. There’s also a few uncovered cement tables & benches spread out on the grass area for all to use. If you are hungry, there’s Tutu’s Snack Shop located in the building across the street from the park, which serves pretty good food(I have a review on their Unilocal page.) As far as restrooms go, they’re located next door to Tutu’s Snack Shop, and was very clean. I was also surprised to find soap & paper towels well stocked — a definite plus! BEACH: The sand is a mix of white & black resulting in a dirty color. The area near the pier is great for swimming as its naturally protected. The opposite area towards the west is very rough & choppy. TIP: No lifeguard on duty.

As another reviewer mentioned, this is not the black sand beach which is nearby, this is for the Hana Bay red sand beach. We stopped here to eat our picnic lunch on our road to hana trip. Lots of picnic tables. It was a nice beach, but wasn’t as cool as the black sand beach nearby. Also there aren’t any restaurants or anything like that on the beach, just one building with an ice cream place and restrooms. Still nice though.

Simply put, Maui is gorgeous, magnificent scenic route on your way to Hana and the beach here seems like a local spot but altogether beautiful.

This is not the black sand beach. THISIS: This is the little beach under the ice cream shack on the hill just next to Hana Hotel… so you go down that hill from the fake golf course and spa area of hotel and take a right… this puts you on the beach. It’s a small municipal beach. red sand, bbq pits, possibly a town drunk. the Hotel Hana’s activities guy does a net throwing lesson here. There is a broken down old pier here, as well as a snack shack and breakfast joint… cheap option if you are staying at the hotel, lazy option if you are not wanting to cook. Fine beach, but nothing worth traveling to… just the local, public, amazing sand, stunning beach… not as nice as others, but a gem just the same.

This is a cute little place… and if you have the Maui blue book, then you can go to a little(really little) remote beach and be all alone. It was so pretty and fun. The sand is all red but it’s not the big red sand beach. Overall, we had lunch and had fun at the little beach.

Maui is Wowie! We had the pleasure of a family vacation here years ago. The Black Sand Beach was probably my family’s favorite stop along the road to Hana. The sand is black… it truly is black and stunning. We spent a couple hours here, adventuring into cool caves, playing on the beach and simply absorbing all the beauty surrounding us. There was a shaved ice stand in the park area; nice refreshing snack. For anybody adventuring to Maui, the road to Hana is worth your while… take your time to stop and smell the roses…or whatever flowers are along your path. It is at least a one day trip; full day… long, long winding road to Hana. The Hana Bay/Black Sand Beach is a must see. Some sunny photos are posted. You can see my foot in the spectacular black sand… can I be Elite now since I posted a somewhat recent photo? :-D
