Our family has been home from our trip to Maui and we can’t stop talking about the amazing food. Amazing. My youngest daughter insists her food wins the cake. It was the fish of the day, fried over rice with a variety of seaweeds, spices, chopped veggies and sauces. It was like a deconstructed Sushi crunch roll. I had the Ahi Poke bowl. I could eat it every day. My older daughter had the special Asian chicken wings. She claims they were better than the best in Portland and that is a solid compliment because she is a big fan of wings. My husband had the fish and chips. Crispy and not greasy. We will be back.

We stumbled upon this place for lunch because it was the first sign we saw driving into Hana and it was easy to find. It’s a small outdoor seating establishment that seems like a mom and pop place. We ordered a lunch plate with Kalbi and a saimin. The Kalbi lunch plate was good but the saimin soup was a bit salty. The prices ranges from $ 7 to $ 10. They also offer burgers and sandwiches as well as various pastries(scones and muffins). Note that it’s CASH only and there is no ATM nearby. There’s plenty of parking nearby. They have a few tables outside the café facing the beach. Overall, a nice place to stop by for a quick lunch.

I was pleasantly surprised with the food we had because there aren’t really many options in Hana and at this location they could probably pretty much serve anything and make money because so many tourists visit Hana Bay. We ordered from the specials menu-pulled pork sandwich and kalbi plate. We enjoyed both-very tasty and not too expensive compared to other places in Maui. As other people have said, service is not particularly great, but it’s really just an order and go kind of place so it doesn’t matter all that much. I’d stick with the specials menu vs. their standard American food options which didn’t look as appetizing. Macadamia nut ice cream was a little pricey for what you get, but was tasty! Great views!

Not a good way to start a day. Meanest lady at the register will treat you like you owe her a million bucks. Regular burnt coffee is $ 3.60 cash only. They don’t even have milk

Had a great breakfast here, except the older white haired lady with blue eyes that was working the cash register was quite negative. I accidentally picked up a second orange juice on the bar because I thought it was free refills and she made a scene, treating me as a second class citizen and profusely apologizing to the woman whose orange juice it actually was. A man then went to get napkins who hadn’t ordered from the restaurant and she embarrassed him in front of everyone by saying«you know those aren’t freebies». Suffice to say we gave him our napkins. Would have been a lovely experience except for this judgmental woman. The food is great and the Sunday church service next door looks wonderful.

I found this walk up window over looking the bay early on Saturday morning to be a perfect breakfast spot. We were welcomed by the sweet lady working, as well as the locals enjoying their breakfast. There was a community center next door with a choir practice going on while we were there. The doors were open and the songs filled the porch were we enjoyed our pancakes and french toast. It’s a bit pricey, $ 8 for pancakes, but it’s Hawaii. We expected that everywhere. You get a huge amount of food for the money, two people could easily share. The food was home made, and was just like something you’d get from your mom’s kitchen table. We loved it. Cash only. We had a great morning there watching the kids play and enjoying the ocean breeze before heading back down the Road to Hana. The slow pace and welcoming feeling here was lovely.

Probably one of the worst plate lunches I’ve ever eaten and I’ve had my fair share during my lifetime. Since we were doing the road to Hana we decided to stop at the barefoot café for lunch. The prices seemed a little high but given the location and the limited choices we figured we’d give it a shot. I had the hamburger steak plate lunch for $ 10.50. Holy crap this thing was tiny(that’s what she said), one patty, one scoop mac salad, one scoop rice. Should’ve been called a mini and been about half the price. Ok, now to the taste, even if it was small and overpriced I’d be willing to overlook that if the taste was good. The patty was literally like a hockey puck, so overcooked that it had no moisture whatsoever. Mac salad… shitty and bland. Hell even the rice was dry and overdone. I will say the guy at the counter was nice and friendly probably cuz they’re making money hand over fist at this joint. Cash only btw. So in closing I’d say avoid this place at all costs unless you’re bordering on starvation and have no other choice. You have been warned!

This funky little beach walk up café’s food is simply Awesome! We had the Mahi Mahi fish burger. Simply the best fish burger I’v had outside of Kalapana Village Café on the Big Island, which is now closed. Others with me had the Korean Kalbi which they also said was yummy Don’t listen to those who say they aren’t very friendly. we are haole and the gal behind the counter was just as friendly as could be. If you are looking for local flare and food this is the place Bring you suit and a towel since it’s right across from the beach ;-)

Good simple food at relatively good prices. It’s a basic place conveniently located overlooking Hana Bay. The food is simple and good, as if made by family you may be visiting. Don’t expect five star service, it’s just a walk up window. But the food is hearty and plentiful and a nice change of pace if you just want a simple, local breakfast. Be sure to check the little chalkboard next to the window for today’s specials.

Outstanding food! A great find especially when compared to Travassa’s breakfast which is just up the street at double the cost for less food(and less taste). There are very few options in Hana but even if there were plenty of places to choose from, this breakfast would still top the list. Best pancakes and eggs I’ve had in a long time. Very impressed with this place. It has simple outdoor seating and is located just across the street from the beach so bring your bathing suit and towel and make a morning out of it. I also see on here some people saying its for locals only. The locals were very inviting and gave us some drinks that were awesome. If the locals go you know you are in the right spot.

I give it 3 stars because they are open for breakfast and lunch and the other food options in Hana are laughable for the most part. Four would require wiping down the outside tables and saying hello. I get it that Hana has their own culture and when they see a bunch of white folks descend on their town every day, they could be pretty disgusted by it. I agree that there is an extremely low level of Aloha at this window service, harbor side, breakfast and lunch spot. However… I ate two meals there, and found the food tasty and well prepared. No one got sick, it was cooked properly and everyone around us was enjoying theirs. This is a good option for you if you did not bring in your food to Hana, or don’t want to do a food truck or stand which have no guaranteed hours. I imagine that this place has something to do with the Parks and Rec department, and they have to stay open. Last bit: when I was there, the ladies that ra. It said that they had better trip advisor reviews than Unilocal.Want to get a better review? One tip… smile. You don’t have to like the jackass customers you get, but faking it would make them feel like they weren’t unwelcome. Aloha.

Great little spot for breakfast or lunch before we head back home after staying at Travaasa Hana. They open at 7am daily even on Memorial Day Holiday and we ordered the breakfast special of fried rice with 2 eggs for $ 8.50. It was pretty good! We ordered the eggs over medium and they came out over hard but it was still Ono! We also bought a cinnamon roll that was ok. Cash only and they have seats right in front of the window or you can sit on the picnic tables closer to the water. Hours: daily breakfast from 7am-10am and then lunch from 11am until closing. Support local!

Two stars because 3 people in our party of 6 had food poisoning. The Kailua pork tasted very salty and drenched in sauce. My guess is that it was reheated and extra sauce was added to cover any foul taste. Ruined the vacation of those who were sick. Otherwise the fish and chips were fantastic which I ha a gave the 2nd star. Chili dogs not so great. Chili tasted like hamburger helper, not chili. It’s cash only

Complete assholes here. Sure wish they served a side of respect with their food. The guy taking your order is so rude and the food is so over priced. And no ketchup. Will never come bck

Cute name but really lousy, overpriced food. Did I mention indifferent service. The view is great but you would do better to bring your own lunch or buy one elsewhere and use the public picnic benches. The food was so inedible, we threw most of it away and went to eat elsewhere.

Stopped here because we were drawn in by the Hana Bay and I didn’t have cell service to use Unilocal as my guide. Ordered the ahi tempura, BBQ ribs and pulled pork. The ahi tempura was okay but the ahi was fried so much it was borderline dry. My favorite part of the meal was the veggies that came with it. The ribs we eaten by my children and they loved them. The pulled pork was dripping with some thick molasses sauce and was not even edible without the white rice. The most interesting part of the pulled pork was the temperature. It ranged from hot to refrigerator temp from bite to bite. Each meal came with a Mac salad that was inedible. That all would have been tolerable if the service wasn’t so crappy. I’m pretty sure that they don’t like white shahk bait like me. Oh, and bring cash. You’re gonna need it to pay for the $ 2 bottles of Costco water.

This rating is purely based on the location of the restaurant!!! Nothing beats having breakfast right on the beach watching sunrise :) Food on the menu as typical Hawaiian — eggs, sausage and rice! I ordered French toast that was decent and pretty filling too. Again, just go to eat here for the view if nothing else!

We had lunch here after a long and awesome drive on the famous highway 360. We didn’t check reviews before leaving for Hana and didn’t have Internet on our cellphones when we arrived. As it’s located just steps from the beach it was the convenient option but our choice wasn’t the best. The teriyaki beef was too salty as were the fries that came with the hot dog for the kids. The plate of chow mein wouldn’t have been too bad if it wasn’t drowned in oil. Overall disappointing food but one extra star for the location.

No, just no. After a long drive to Hana, we were starving and not in the mood to search out food. This little food stand is located near the beach and is convenient, but that’s about it. The line was long and the menu was not exciting in the least. Just the basics here, fish and chips, hamburgers, hotdogs, boba drinks and some Hawaiian specialty plates. My fella and I opted to share a kalbi lunch plate with rice and mac salad. The food came up quick, but our kalbi was more like a charcoal piece of sirloin steak with sweet sauce on it. So odd. It was tough and the flavors were not good. I stuck with the rice and mac salad which were basic, but I’m glad she opted to share instead of wasting money on two plates.

After a long day of Road to Hana activities, we came here starving due to finding that ALL other 4 – 5 Unilocal star restaurants were listed with inaccurate hours and were actually closed by 3:30 on a non holiday Saturday(grrrrr really wanted to try Pranee Thai and Bruddah BBQ). $ 8 for burger and fries — undercooked fries and way overlooked frozen burger patty. BF got this thinking it’s tough to screw up, but he was oh so wrong. Avoid. $ 8 for chicken chow mein special was decent actually. Tasty chicken(fatty bits and all), well cooked noodles, and some veggies. I found it somewhat bland, but nothing that a few splashes of soy sauce and Tabasco couldn’t fix(cue the«I put that sh*t on everything» grandma). Due to extremely limited dining options here out in the boonies, you might be stuck coming here. Stay away from the burger and you should be fine.
