Very good food. I highly recommend the tacos al pastor. You must like spicy food to eat here.

Discrimination at its best. Buy plates at, tortilla container with no tortillas in it, and an extra dollar added to my tab. I was super friendly from the moment I walked in the door until the moment I left, but man, I am disappointed.

We had the pozole and menudo both were flavorless. Tasted like warm nothing. They didn’t have any ice so I couldn’t try the horchata. They have homemade corn tortillas but they have a weird taste. They served the pozole with lettuce not cabbage which was a disappointment. We have eaten here before but won’t be eating here again.

Been meaning to get to this place & today I did… I will be back, for sure! Good beans, check! Good rice, check! I had the taco plate, 3 tacos, with Asada and pollo. The chicken was my favorite, tender & with great flavor. Thick-ish corn tortillas are stuffed with meat, grilled onions and cilantro and come with lime wedges.(you can opt for no cilantro or onions if you’d like.) The salsas, one red & one green, are HOT, so beware… a little goes a long way. Had my food to go but the interior of the restaurant was clean and orderly. Staff was very nice. Next time I’m trying the torta… or maybe the fajitas… or…

As expansive as Unilocal has become, it is always a surprise when you happen upon a place that isn’t listed within the website. That was the case today. I actually was heading over to the East Belknap area because of all of the Asian places and I was going to pick one at random. I found Taqueria El Toro. Located right around the corner from El Rancho Groceria is El Toro. By the looks of it, it has been there for awhile. It’s attached to a beauty salon right next door. Not sure why I never noticed the place before, because I have been over there a number of times. Well, lucky me. Mostly, I know my Mexican food. I try the street tacos at most all places I go to. So being my first time, I figured I’d do the same. They have a decent selection of meats. Tripa, lengua, al pastor, asada, barbacoa and pollo. I chose lengua, al pastor and barbacoa and I did pretty well there. The taco plate came with rice and refried beans and I got both red and green salsa as well. The barbacoa and pastor were really good and had alot of flavor to them. The lengua was a little underwhelming. The red and green salsas were good for me. Warning, the red is straight hot. Really good, but it needed something else in it to balance it out. The green salsa actually had better flavor. The rice and refried beans were great. Creamy and with some of the red and green salsa, even better. I even tried something that I’d heard of, but never tried. Horchata. It is a rice based drink that basically tasted like rice pudding in liquid form. It’s really the only way I can describe it. Not too sweet and with a hint of cinnamon. I’d get it again. They have many choices on the menu including pozole, tortas, menudo, gorditas, quesadillas and burritos. It is definately a place worth revisiting. Enjoy.
