Horrible customer service and mushy shrimp. The kimchee was also horrid. Tasted like a paper bag or something. Saw lots of tourist just walk over to Giovanni’s cuz the old lady was back turned eating her food not caring lol. Save your time and go to GIOVANNIS.

I ordered the garlic shrimp and kalbi short ribs plates. The portions were large and the flavors were amazing. The garlic shrimp plate was delicious. They smothered the rice with garlic sauce, had me eating rice like I was training for sumo. The kalbi rib plate was thick slices of beef. It was very tender and tasty! The plates came with slaw on the side, which complemented the meals perfectly. This food truck is definitely a must!

Honos has the best food out of all shrimp trucks out there! The sauce and shrimps are flavorful and delicious. Their spicy shrimp is way better than Giovanni’s. We got one plate at first from honos because we were getting two plates from Giovanni’s already. After we finished eating everything, we went back to Honos to get one more shrimp plate because we just couldn’t get enough of it! Honos’ shrimps are cooked just right! Not overly cooked like Giovanni’s.

For an out of the way place and a pretty darn unique(sorta ghetto) truck… this place delivered a great tasting shrimp dish! Stopped here to try one of the food truck dishes for dinner and decided on this restaurant because of the truck, menu, and appeal of the pictures of food. I ordered the garlic shrimp and after about a 5 minute wait our food came out. It was spectacular. I don’t think I can say I’ve had better tasting shrimp before. It’s pretty amazing how they can make all that tasty food inside of a truck! It’s a little expensive, but well worth a try if you’re in the area.

Highly underrated compared to the other, more famous shrimp trucks(cough cough Giovanni’s). I see the value in the product they offer, and in terms of the overall taste on my end. Everyone has a different palate and for me, this is as good as it gets! I’ve tried most of the menu items such as Garlic, Butter, Spicy and BBQ Shrimp so far. When they say spicy, they mean it! I almost cried my eyes out off of that plate I almost didn’t finish it. The garlic, butter and BBQ are rich in flavor so that it melts in your mouth in all the right places. I’ll admit, the location is a bit of a struggle. Parking is horrible and the nearest restroom is across the street at McDonald’s but for the sake of non-commercialism(again, McD’s) and what it takes to stay ‘country,’ we just have to deal with it. Personality on the truck goes a long way, and although it doesn’t look clean due to its exterior, it also doesn’t look like it’s going to give up and break down anytime soon. In fact, the day I went there a lady came to do an inspection and looked pleased by the overall environment. The workers are very soft-spoken in a good way. They aren’t obnoxious or trying to sell anything further because the food speaks for itself. Please consider this next time you go out to the North Shore. If you’re looking for a quick bite to eat without the hassle of waiting in line for nearly an hour to get pretty much the same taste(if not, better), Honos is your next shrimp stop shop. Considerations: They use CASH only. It’s obvious the tourists go for what’s popular, and it’s not their fault they don’t want to pay the extra fees for a card machine. They’ll work on it when you work on trying their food. Deal?

I had just finished my shrimp scampi in my car from Giovanni’s and I was about to throw my plate away near this truck and the bitter middle aged Asian woman said«hey, garbage for Giovanni’s is over there.» And pointed down to her left. I had to walk past three trucks and through the tables and the flies. In hindsight I shoulda just pretended not to hear and dumped my trash but forget it. I’ll just pass on some quiet Unilocal judgement and move on.

When you’re in Hawaii, one thing you must do is drive out to the Haleiwa shrimp trucks. It takes a relatively quick drive out of Honolulu and into central Oahu, where you will usually see a large crowd lined up at Giovanni’s. Since the line was so long, we saw Honos just 2 trucks down so we gave it a try. What a great decision we made, not having to wait in line and quickly being able to chow down on some super flavorful pineapple shrimp, served in a big healthy portion that came out nice and hot. The most popular dish, the garlic shrimp, is also delicious and worth waiting in any line for. Honos also offered marinated Korean ribs which we added to our order and then inhaled. There’s something so delicious about that sweet/salty tasty rib on top of rice. Due to the popularity of the shrimp trucks and tourists, parking is a bit of a challenge. But be patient, believe me it’s worth the wait to get a parking spot, then head straight to Honos Shrimp Truck!

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. In Haleiwa, you could do as the tourists do and sit in the long line at Giovanni’s, or you could get something just as tasty or tastier, and be sitting down with some sweet, sticky pineapple shrimp, garlic shrimp, or kalbi long before the tourists get close to ordering. I know which one gets my vote!

Since this place was located next to Giovanni, I ordered shrimp from both places. Honos flavor is better than Giovanni. Honos now hold the title for best shrimp I’ve eaten in my life at the time of this writing. I deducted 2 star due to the fact that flies were smarming both areas. I literally feared that one of the hundreds of flies around the area was going to land on my food. I had flies buzzing past my ear every few seconds. It’s better to eat in your car! Some people are ok with flies, but I know how unsanitary these critters are. As for parking, it’s almost impossible to find any parking. I parked across the street. I’m tempted to deduct a star for this, but I can’t blame the establishment for their popularity.

Terrific shrimp! Tasty, great presentation, good coleslaw. Don’t waste your time in line for Giovanni’s! Honos is the place to eat.

I got the #8 which brings kalbi beef and garlic shrimp. The garlic and rice tastes great, but the kalbi beef was half inedible bc it was tough and mostly fat. I paid extra for nothing. Also don’t get the green tea. It has no flavor with cigarette aftertaste. Lots of flies outside too.

I have to put Honos up with the famous«white» shrimp truck. The pineapple shrimp was outstanding and flavorful. My wife had the spicy garlic shrimp which she loved. I would highly recommend Honos if your on the north Shore.

Decided to give this place a try since I been hearing some great things about this place. It’s located in the same lot as Giovanni’s and Dat Cajun Guy. I ordered the doct garlic shrimp which cones with lots of garlic and 2 scoops of rice and shredded cabbage. It was delicious and not overly spicy. My plate came with 10 pieces of shrimp. They also serve Kalbi + shrimp plate combos and also if you want kim chee you can purchase side of Kim chee for $ 1. I love how they cut the shrimp and it’s super easy to peel too. This place is great because when I went today which was around noon on a Saturday there wasn’t much of a line or wait! Def this place is good competition and something bit different from their neighbor Giovanni’s truck!

Take a moment. Breath. Note: they take cash only. There is no near atm near by that I couldn’t find at the time. Okay this place was awesome. Its so ridiculous it’s not fair. The talk of the town was the garlic shrimp. Its pretty good and I respect that. I choose a different route since My family got that plate already so I decided to try the sweet pinapple and sour shrimp. Holy smokes !!! It was so bomb I didn’t even think twice of this is the best shrimp I had so far. This was recommend to me by a local instead of going to giovanniss. I was like alright I trust your judgement and now I will make sure this is as important as stomping by north shore. That good.

Nom nom nom! Based on reviews we decided to try this truck over Giovannis. I got the spicy garlic shrimp and my other half got the regular scampi so we could share. The servings are huge! I decided to just peel all my shrimp from the get go– that way i wasn’t eating around shells. It gets really messy, but the sauce is finger licking good, so it’s worth the hassle. I loved the crispy crunch y cabbage served on the side with a light rice vinegar dressing. It really cut the heat from the shrimp. I want the spicy recipe! So good. They cook to order as well, which I prefer over precooked shrimp. I don’t want anything rubbery or dried out. These were perfect and worth the 5 minute wait.

I could have sworn that I had already reviewed Hono’s. Hold on. Let me go back and check. Ok, I’m back. And yes, I have reviewed them. I knew that my memory wasn’t playing tricks on me. I guess they were just parked at a different location. This is my husband’s absolute favorite shrimp truck on the North Shore. So needless to say, we make several visits during our stay. I don’t do shrimp. I know, sacrilege. But Hono’s offers very good kalbi ribs as well. So I’m a very happy camper. Several other trucks are parked here now, so parking can be a bit difficult. There is rarely a line, which is great. Seems like everyone is at Giovanni’s truck right next to Hono’s. They may not have the popularity of Giovanni’s, Macky’s, etc. but Hono’s food & service trumps the competition. Hubby has tried them all. Yeah, he actually tried them all in one day a few years ago for«the sake of comparison». Not because he’s a fatty or anything ;) He still chooses Hono’s again & again.

YUM! The spicy garlic shrimp plate was delicious! Compared to Giovanni’s, Honos is far superior because the food is freshly prepared and perfectly cooked. Plus, it’s less messy because they prepare the shrimp in a manner that allows the shell to be edible. Well, the shell is always edible, but isn’t always pleasant. At Honos the shell is soft enough where it doesn’t even seem like it’s a shell. Overall, this was a tasty lunch and a WAY better alternative to Giovanni’s.

Huge prawns plate is good for 1 person! Slightly spicy, heavy, buttery, deliciousness Ordered the huge prawn plate to sample their well known garlic prawns, let’s just say they were impressive, I’ve been here probably 4times already so let me break it down, avoid during peak hours«lunch time», if you fail at this be prepared to wait awhile. The prawns are heavy, buttery and delicious, you probably want to share this plate if you want to watch your figure! From first bite to last bite, slightly spicy, buttery, tender huge prawns, oh by the way I don’t peel the shell off I eat it whole!!! There are several other trucks in the area so sample something from every spot all are legit eats Will I be back, on vacation you always come back! Huge a$$ prawns **** yes I will be back for the garlicky slightly spicy tender prawns Price $$ Service **** helpful, friendly Ambiance *** outside, Picnic benches, roosters and chickens wandering the property

This is actually the 2nd time I’ve been here.(1st time was 2010) I couldn’t remember which shrimp truck I went to 4 years ago, so I purchased a garlic shrimp plate from Giovanni’s and Hono’s to compare which I think is better. Both plates cost $ 13, come with 2 scoops of rice, have a dozen garlic shrimp. However, in the end… Hono’s won out for me. It is true that garlic isn’t plastered all over the rice like Giovanni’s, but the shrimp at Hono’s have a sweet taste and I think they are flavored better(in comparison to not having flavor?). Another plus for me is that in comparing the size of the shrimps side by side, Hono’s was a bit larger. Overall, I would recommend this place. While it may not be as popular as Giovanni’s(long waits), it tastes a lot better! You can read my review on Giovanni’s.
