This business is no longer around. The food truck is now being ran under the name«zanes simply shrimp»! Not the same at all. The truck is the same just much more beat up. Please don’t be fooled like I was. Zanes simply shrimp is a rip off!!! The food was terrible… shrimp was dried out… and way overpriced. Old man taking orders was a grouchy old jerk. Beware this is not the delicious food truck that once was called hui ohana!!!

The BEST fish n chips ever! We made a quick stop at this food stand on our way back from Haleiwa. This is definitely one of the best fish n chips we have had. The serving was huge, two very large pieces of fish(thick and fresh) crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Highly recommended! We’ll go back for sure.

My son took me to Hui Ohana on Mothers Day 5÷12÷13. I ordered the fish & chips and my son had shrimp & chips. OMG the fish is huge and so many shrimps on my sons plate! The fish was light & flaky … so delicious and the fried shrimp was ono! Gotta try this truck. The lady owner was so nice. She gives military and kamaiana discount. The price is good for the big size portion you get. Well worth the drive to Haleiwa!

If you’re looking for healthy fresh food, this is not your place. I had the fish/shrimp combo. It was deep fried, with a side of not-so-fresh cole slaw and rice. So much batter, I couldn’t even eat it.

Not gonna lie, I was apprehensive about trying any of the touristy trucks in Hale’iwa but I was pleasantly surprised with Hui Ohana! I had the fish tacos and although they were kinda pricey(a little over $ 13 for two), they were ‘ono! Nothing too special about the lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and salsa since it’s the fish that really makes the taco. It’s perfectly moist and balanced nicely with the batter. Some places overdo the batter so it’s overpowering but this fish was crispy enough without having the extra soggy bits. Next time we play tourist, I’ll definitely be stopping by.

I always wanted to try the food trucks in the north shore. And when I finally did, I had to come back again to make sure it was as good as the first time! I was not disappointed. Rita, the owner, is super nice and efficient. I ordered the combo plate(fish & chips and fried shrimp) both times. The batter is like nothing I’ve ever had(even better than fish & chips I’ve had in England). Its so light, and its delicious on everything(fish, onion rings, shrimp). They let me test out a sweet n sour sauce they have been working on and it was ah-ma-zing! I can’t wait for my next visit to Haleiwa and Hui Ohana’s!

Seriously some good Fish & Chips! The fish is so flavorful and moist, melt in your mouth! The batter is light and flaky. And the portions are huge! I don’t eat much fried food, but I crave this.

I ordered the Fish & Chips for my mom. The fish was perfectly cooked, flaky, and nicely seasoned. I enjoyed it with their coleslaw. The order comes with fries.

The best meal we had the entire trip to Hawaii! Skip Giovanni’s and move on over to this truck. Well worth the drive from Honolulu to the North Shore, just for this one meal. I love shrimp and fish, but hate that«fishy» taste. This truck had the most mild and juiciest fried Ono and Shrimp. Delcious sauces to dip them in. My husband had the fish tacos and loved them.

We were on our way to sight see at a sugar cane factory in North Shore when I saw a small group of food trucks off the side of the road in Haleiwa. This one truck stood out because they advertised their truck better than the others in the lot. The menu was advertised well with pictures. I decided to go with the sampler platter which included fried calamari, fried shrimp, fried battered fish, steamed garlic shrimp, cole slaw, and fries. The lady who helped me out in the window was really nice and told me that this platter was good for two. The wait for the food was a little long, but it was worth it. If you’re in the Haleiwa area in North Shore, check out this food truck off the beaten path. They’ll make sure you get your fried seafood fix.

These maui onion rings were awesome! Son ordered fish n chips and we all took turns doing the switcheroos with our different dishes from different trucks. I would def try this truck next time we’re in town. The fish and chips didnt have too fishy of flavor and the texture was just right, not greasy at all. The portion was huge so def I can share this with DH or son.

Off the side of the road you’ll find a small parking lot of rocks and a handful of food trucks with picnic benches. This place is one of them. My family stopped off for Giovanni’s but this place had the only thing I could eat since I’m vegetarian. Onion rings. But they were mighty fine. The batter was light and delicious unlike any I have ever tasted. Sure they were extremely oily but that’s only to be expected of onion rings. There’s hoards of flies lingering around so eat fast.

Stopping at the shrimp truck area of Halewia, and being the only one in the group who is allergic to shrimp(wahh!), I was pleased to see Hui Ohana Fish n Chips. Don’t get me wrong, they have shrimp at this truck too… But I digress. I decided to split a plate with a friend. Good choice! It was $ 12 but oh my I’d never have finished that plate on my own. The photo on the side of the truck don’t lie! The batter on that fish was heavenly and light and crispy, didn’t need tartar sauce(which they have) or malt vinegar(which they didn’t have). Lip-smacking good. And since I split the entrée, I still have room for shave ice… On to the next north shore experience!!!

YUMMY! You can’t find better fish n chips then Hui Ohana! My friends love the coconut shrimp(I don’t eat shrimp), I suggest asking for different types of sauces they have for your fish or shrimp. Large portions. Two can easily split the fish & shrimp combo! they have a kids plate, too. I don’t think it is on the menu but just ask. I am a local, and the second tiime I went there they remembered my name, I took my mom there when she visited and they chatted with my mom and gave her such a treat with good food. Mom runs the counter & her son is the owner. They are always cheerful, friendly and stand true to Ohana! One suggestion: Do not wear white shorts, pants, etc. as it is in a red dirt lot. You sit at picnic tables family style. Definitely share the onion rings. Parking can get busy, but many double or triple park, but if you don’t mind waiting a few minutes for people to move the car-it’s all about the experience. Oh…the batter was created by the owner. It isn’t a premade-box mix, homemade creation. That is a treat! so skip Giovanni’s go straight to Hui Ohana! Price cheap to moderate. If handicapped, you are on a packed dirt road. ok for wheelchair but bumpy. careful when walking with canes & crutches as there are a lot of rocks and unequal ground. Just watch your stepping and you will be glad you stopped by! Parking: You can also park at Mcdonald’s across the street.

Hui Ohana is located in the same lot as Giovanni’s Aloha Shrimp Truck. It’s family owned and they are very welcoming and friendly. My fiancé is a sucker for Fish n’ Chips, so when we pulled up into the lot for our Giovanni’s he disappeared to this truck! Along with fish n’ chips they also serve shrimp n’ fries, garlic shrimp, coconut shrimp, garlic shrimp, tacos, calamari and Maui onion rings. The fiancé opted for the combo of fried shrimp and fish with fries and an order of Maui onion rings for all of us to share. He came back to our table with a plate piled high with food and the son/owner of Hui Ohana right behind him holding a plate piled high with onion rings! A perfect example of how friendly this family is– I’ve never seen anyone in a food truck go out of their way and help someone carry their own food, mind you it was near closing… but still, it was quite nice of him! The food was good and the fiancé cleaned his plate out and we all loved the onion rings, a tad bit on the oily side but it didn’t stop us from eating away!!!

Hui Ohana Fish n’ Chips could easily be lost amongst the hub bub of the nearby Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck(literally 20 feet away), but if you’re not in the mood for shrimp(I don’t know why you would be in North Shore if you weren’t craving shrimp, but just sayin’), I’d recommend to give this place a try. My cousin M ordered the standard Fish n’ Chips, since her hubby is allergic to shrimp(poor guy). Her $ 12 plate came with two large strips of deep fried fish, salad, and fries. The crunch of the fish was awesome — hot, crispy, and not too oily — and the fish itself stayed fresh and moist. The salad and fries were standard, but did well to complement the fish. All in all, although I do prefer my garlic shrimp to fish n’ chips, I would gladly return to Hui Ohana if the shrimp don’t fill me up.
