We come here about once a month cuz their carne asada with cheese popusas are so good. Theres been days where its busy and not busy and seems like the waitresses take forever to bring you ur drink. They serve complimentary chips and salsa. If ur drink is empty make sure you call them over because they will not fill you up without u speaking up. Some stand in the back chit chatting about their boy problems lol. Overall. Good food. Service aint all good.

I really like this place I come all of the time but it is such a hassle just to get someone to take your order so just beware of that. The food is good but make sure you have time to wait.

Well… sometimes a hole in the wall is an amazing find. This one isn’t. The service was excellent though… I ordered the super chilaquillas… what a joke. The food took an extremely long time to come, the chips on the dish were cold, the eggs had hardened and the carne asada was super chewy… maybe that was the super part. I took home 2 sopes for later. They looked amazing, but again, the meat was grisly and chewy. When I attempted to pay they told me my card was declined. I was already running late since it took so long. I called the bank and they said, no activity was even attempted. Not coming back.

Located in a 1980s style strip mall on the wrong side of the freeway in Hacienda Heights, I’ve passed this place a million times. I always wondered what a Pupusa was, and I hated the name, El Curtido ! What was that? What is that? There was a Mexican Dating show that always sent its dates here to eat what looked liked fried tortillas. I wasn’t interested. Fast forward to 2012 a workout friend took me and since then I love these small pillows with a thin layer of beans, cheese, pork, squash or whatever they have . The Curtido is the Cole slaw you put on top of the Pupusa with the red chili… mmmmmmmmmm good ! This place is a local treasure, sweet waitress, great Happy Hour Menu and tasty chips and salsa. Happy hour prices are the best value ! 4 Pupusa, 1 taco, beans, fried banana with cream and a coffee all for 13 bucks ! I’ve tried other menu items but really just stick to the basics.

I’ve driven by this restaurant numerous times and I’m glad I was finally able to try it! I’m new to Salvadorian food and was surprised at how many veggie options they have! I tried their cheese pupusa dish with a side of beans and rice. It came with curtido and a spicy tomato sauce. The pupusa was SO good and I absolutely loved the crunchiness of the melted cheese on its side. The fresh curtido and sauce added the perfect complement to the fried cheesiness of the pupusa. The pupusa itself was crisp on the outside and just the right amount of doughy on the inside. I also helped myself to some of my mom’s sides such as fried plantain and yuca. Both were so unique in flavor and delicious! The fried plantain was warm and sweet, and just a little crispy. The deep fried yuca was so crispy and tender on the inside. Everything I tried was delicious and I can’t wait to be back to try more!

Best pupusas I’ve had in a while Super guanaco — you can’t go wrong with that plate. Even the customer service made me feel like I was at home.

Like on the pupusas the tacos of carne asada the meat can be a little hard sometimes. The salsa can be better!

Went there with friends because highly recommended by my friend dear Naomi. Yes, the pupusas we ordered were great, recommended. Taco special on the menu, I would recommend skipping it. Tiny tacos that were not even funny. So small, and the waitress even messed up our orders. Our waitress was not the greatest, forgetting this, forgetting that! Will I go back??? I think so! Fellow Unilocalers, do give it a try!

Second time here. Pick up order this time. Tip: plan ahead. Food is made fresh and takes about 20 minutes to prepare. Only food I’ve tried are the asada pupusas. They’re some of the best tasting I’ve ever had. Today’s pupusas seemed noticeably smaller than the ones I ate when we dined in but for the taste, at that price, you can’t beat it. I will be back and maybe try something different.

I haven’t had the pleasure of dining here yet, but on the both occasions I’ve ordered to go from here, I was really satisfied with my food. Pork and chicken tamales are different from other tamales I’ve had, but they were delicious! They’re more moist than typical tamales we think about and they come in banana leaves, I believe? Just not corn husks. They also have an olive inside for a little sour kick. Albondigas, aka meatballs! It comes in a stewed sauce. I got the plate, which comes with tortillas, rice, beans, and salad. These were also really good. The tortillas are too thick for me though, despite being the same thing they probably use to make their pupupas. When they’re not filled with meat, I just feel like I’m eating a lot of dough. Pupusas…what this place is probably most well known for and rightly so. The pupusas are fun to eat. They’re like thick tortillas filled with different meats like pork, chicken, carne asada, even beans. I honestly liked all the meats I ordered. My bf likes carne asada the most. Pupusas come with house made tomato sauce and pickled slaw as sides. Definitely eat the pupusas with these. It makes them all the more delicious. I’d love to dine in some time. 4 stars!

I have never tried salvadorean food and I was recommended by this place by salvadorean so I decided to check it out. I was recommended yuca frita so I got that which came with salpicon which is finely shredded beef cook with mint. It was very different from the traditonaly mexican food that I eat and I actually like it a lot. The yucca taste something similar to fried potato and the meat had a nice minty and tangy flavor which I enjoyed. The horchata had a unique flavor which I liked too. The pupusas were very good nice, soft, and easy to eat. Customer service was okay. I definitely want to return to try the rest of their menu.

I have a Guatemalan friend who insisted that this was the best place for pupusas in the area. Considering I had to drive almost 40 miles out from where I live, I now realize he and I have very different ideas of what constitutes«in the area.» I went here at 9:30pm and it was supposed to close at ten. There was only one other table of people in the entire restaurant, which basically looked like a former Yellow Basket. I ended up trying a few dishes, the revuelta pupusa and the asada pupusa. Both of these things were oily and not crispy at all, but tasted pretty good. Are they supposed to be crispy? I didn’t know. They were stuffed pretty generously and didn’t cost much. I also tried the tamal salvadoreno de pollo, which was wet? I asked my friend and he said they were supposed to be that way. I buy my tamales from the Mexican lady outside of El Gallo Giro and I preferred those. I got the Maracuya(passionfruit drink) and it was watered down compared to the other place I usually get it, but otherwise ok. I’d probably come back again.

First time here… and I’m sure to come back. I had the Super Guanaco dish. It has 2 pupusas, casamiento(mixed rice and beans) and a fried plantain. It comes with Curtido(the coleslaw-like topping for the pupusas). It also comes with Crema(the sour cream like topping for the plantain) and a slice of Queso fresco. Ok, so don’t order this if you’re lactose intolerant! They have a choice of cheese, carne asada, or chicharron(pork) pupusas. I had the cheese and chicharron and they were both delicious. The meal goes for $ 10.95 and it was one of the more expensive items on the menu. So you can definitely find a meal for under $ 10. They also have a nice selection of Hispanic drinks, but I played it safe with a soda. I’m giving this place 4 stars because it has great food, great service, and good prices. The location, parking and restaurant interior is the only reason they didn’t get that 5th star.

I’ve been dying to try a pupusa and according to people at work, El Cortida is «The Place». I didn’t even know anything about pupusas. They are like a stuffed corn tortilla. I tried the revuelta(pork, beans, and cheese) and the asada and cheese. The outside had a nice crisp texture and you could taste the corn flavor of the tortilla. Plus, both of the fillings were just yum! yum!yum!!! Although they were a little greasy, just blot them on a napkin and that solves the problem. It couldn’t get any better, right?!? Oh but it does. Top the pupusa with their curtado, which is like a vinegary, spicy slaw of cabbage and carrots and this really compliments the flavor of the pupusa. Just a note… they are located in the plaza at the intersection of Gale and Stimson. It’s really hard to get into here unless you’re coming eastbound on Gale from Hacienda Blvd, especially during high traffic hours. Parking spaces are small, so don’t drive your big old tanker truck or humvee. You’ll end up having to take two spaces. Thank you to the nice ladies that work there! I am definitely coming back!

If you like pupusas… this place has some of the best in the SGV. I don’t know how to describe it… it’s like mochi with cheese and meat and lightly pan fried. This is probably my 2nd favorite way to have central american food(after tacos). Little on the ghetto side but man is it good!

NICEST. SERVERS/COOKS! But that’s not what Unilocal is for so I digress. Special recommendations? Traditional food in the form of the all day special of #6 «super plato tipico» and soups«sopa de res(cocido). and of course — horchata. ;) So what is all that? Super plato tipico has: pastelito de carne(beef), pupusa(corn, pork, cheese/beans/spices), yucca, frito. The sopa de res(cocido) which is homemade beef, tropical veggie soup. has a bunch of shortrib meat, yucca, chayote, sweet corn. a lot! :3 And horchata. we all know that sugary goodness! ;) Anyways all in all, great first experience! Recommended for authenticity and goodness! :D

Very good pupuas. I got wind of this place from my neighbor(who is also Salvadorean). Being that my dad is VERY picky on his pupusas and think most places are garbage, we tried it due to the recommendation. I can say that we got a «they’re good» from my dad which is hard to do since he’s generally unimpressed with all food.(his favorite is la santaneca in the mission dist of SF in case you’re interested). I also like that they have mexican food. It’s kind of random and i’m generally not a fan of places that serve 2 types of food but I have had some good tacos here. Also note i’ve had several good soups including the sopa de camarones & the sopa de pollo. They taste homemade + they come with homemade tortillas that are like fluffy, little pupusas, sans the filling.
