This place is actually called«Sushi 805», or at least the menu and signs out front say this! This place has average sushi bar pricing, great food, great presentation, great service and very fast service(though it wasn’t busy when I was there — 9:30pm on a Saturday night)! Overall great place and I’ll be back! EDIT: And huge ice cream desserts!

Sushi to rice ratio was horrible. So much rice was in the sushi that they ran out and they stopped orders for over 30 mins. Only one guy doing the fresh sushi while the other guy was doing all the deep fried stuff. The Asian waitress was rude and demanding. We felt bad for the other two young waitresses who were just trying to do their jobs. Simply no organization at this place. Not sure if I’m spoiled for being from Orange County with good sushi places… The albacore was however good, along with the eel. Tuna wasn’t fishy, a plus. But the rice ratio and service just brings this whole place down.

Wanted to try out a new restaurant in the area so I decided to check this place out since I’ve driven by it many time. The interior decorating is along the lines of a traditional oriental restaurant with great booths for a more intimate experience. From the name I assumed it would only be sushi or Japanese food, but I was pleasantly surprised to see some Korean dishes. I ordered the hot stone Bibimbap. This fantastic dish included an assortment of veggies, beef bulgogi, a scoop of rice and an over easy egg. The meat was juicy and flavorful, veggies were fresh and the single scoop of rice was the perfect amount as to not stuff me. I’m excited to go back and try more of their dishes and sushi. Ps. They offer all you can eat for $ 25, which includes appetizers, sushi, korean bbq and more but check with them for full details. I passed considering i wasn’t very hungry.

I just ordered some food and the waiter Alex was awesome made the time here worth it if it wasn’t for him it would’ve been a bad experience and it was uncomfortable with the girl waiter watching us eat like a hawk I didn’t appreciate her doing that made us feel uncomfortable, we won’t be coming back. The food was alright but not a comfortable environment. Two stars was deserved.

I stopped in to give a new business a try… I was fairly disappointed. I was seated quickly, given a menu and beverage and left to ponder. So they have this deal its 25 $ all you can eat, but you can’t leave any on the plate. If you do you have to pay the 25 $ plus the cost of the roll… Being that seaweed salad was like 8 $ a plate, I thought it would be worth it. I ordered 2 rolls and a seaweed salad. Seaweed salad came quickly, then I waited. I mixed my soy sauce and wasabi because I’m a savage. Lots of waiting. They brought me the wrong order. Spider roll was OK. Their menu is apparently misprinted to say mango in some of the rolls which was disappointing. My rolls were smothered in brown sauce. Which made it less appetizing. I ended up returning one of the rolls because even scraping the sauce off was just, meh. Also, not a garnish in site. I was surprised… Not even a slice of orange. So I flagged down the server/hostess Lindsey, and she fixed my check. So a drink, and a seaweed salad, and 1 spider roll was a 3 $ less than if I got all you could eat thing. The bathrooms were clean, and easily accessible. I asked another person in the car park what they thought, and she said meh. Her son liked it tho. I grabbed a card on the way out and apparently its sushi 805

The pros of this sushi restaurant are, well priced, size of the portions and the service. Their beer and wine menu is limited(4 beers and 4 wines). Parking is limited so park on the street. Alex was our server and he was attentive but not overly so. We had two rolls that were good but not over the top. The must order is the garlic edemame. It was spicy and worked well with my beer. If your looking for a high volume sushi house here it is.

Their sushi was delicious but the prices jumped the shark. Expect to pay $ 1-$ 3 more for each item than their competitors down the street. Well, no, Pacific Umi is too expensive as well. Good fish at high prices. Sushi restaurants have already been slowly driving the prices up to redonkulous levels during the past 10 years. This has been spawned at least partly by the mythology that sushi is mystically, magically difficult to make. It’s not. Also, sushi in upscale neighborhoods of SF or LA cost more because the cost of doing business in those locations is so much more expensive. But Grand Street? Kanpai Sushi in Shell Beach is also expensive, but the location and the capital improvements to their restaurant justify the premium you’ll pay. CowFish takes those already high prices up a little farther than my comfort zone. Making a good pasta sauce, wine reduction, or risotto takes a lot more patience and skill than making sushi rice. And the only secret to the fish is that it’s fresh. All the rest is presentation. I probably would have ordered more food but I just don’t believe in letting the cost of lunch get that far out of hand. So with tip and tax my lunch of 6 small spoonfuls of rice and six small slices of fish set me back about $ 21(no beverage). As I drove home, I kept thinking, «would I pay $ 21 for 6 spoonfuls of risotto artfully presented on a plate? Or six spoonfuls of pasta w/a little sauce drizzled on the top of each?» Maybe, but I would know that a lot of time and effort went into the production of those dishes. For about the same price you can get one of Ember’s beautiful artisan pizzas, which definitely take a lot more time and effort to prepare. Now that I’m done ranting I can confirm that the sushi was well-made and tasted great. So if you’re feeling loose in the wallet, you won’t go wrong eating here. I’ll definitely be back to try some of their Korean dishes and maybe they’ll earn another star.

The food is decent but the service was lacking. We walked in and were seated without menus. Finally, we got our menus and immediately asked what we wanted to drink. Our waitress gets our drinks and then sits down in a booth next to a guy who looks like he walked right out of prison… um ok. 10 minutes later, we finally flag down someone to ask where our waitress is? He looked at us like he was confused and said he would check. 5 minutes later, we finally get our waitress to come over. So strange. I feel like the servers stood around doing nothing more than anything and we were probably one of 4 tables in the whole place. There was just a whole lack of care with respect to service. We keep trying new sushi places in the area and keep walking out disappointed. We need to just stick to our regular place — Goshi in SLO.

We went to this restaurant because the menu showed more choices in Ramen than any other in the area. I ordered the Spicy Seafood Ramen. Spicy=Yes Quanity=Not enough for price $ 12.95 Ramen noodles=Chewy and clumpy Seafood=1 whole shrimp, 1 shrimp, 1 mussel, a few very small clams. Served in very large bowl but only filled up less than half way(see picture) If you like raw mushrooms you would like this as the mushrooms were thrown in uncooked. If you don’t like uncooked you might just let them bathe in the hot broth until cooked. Friendly Not any great atmosphere Sushi rolls on the smaller size of what we are used to. Will not return

Great random sushi place we ran into! Not all you can eat, but decently priced. The greet to the table was a little awkward. But Our server was very friendly :) Mainly: the food was so delicious. & I enjoyed the green tea!

I rate restaurants differently depending on the location. If there were an abundance of Korean establishments in Central California or if this were in Oakland or NYC, I wouldn’t be quite as generous. But then CowFish is catering to a different clientele. The Korean selection is quite slim. With our daeji bulgoki we received one banchan: kimchi. But it was superb. And the meat came out with the lettuce and the bean paste and the jalapenos! We also had the dolsot bibimbap. The rice wasn’t really sizzling and the flavors weren’t as pungent as I like them. We did receive some fresh Japchae which was delicious. And they had both Korean beer and soju! What made it a really nice experience was our server, Amy, who is Korean. Such great service. Plus the owner Steve stopped by the table to solicit input. For us the location is convenient on our way from my work in Santa Maria to home in Shell Beach. We’ll be back!

Don’t be fooled by the outside décor, this place is fantastic! I was nervous to come eat here because it has been so many different businesses and looks a little out of place. My fiancé and I sincerely enjoyed our time here! Kevin our sushi chef was great he was very attentive to our order! He even made my own special octopus roll. The cleanliness is crucial for me when it comes to sushi! This place looks pretty clean to me! We ordered the spicy tuna roll the soft shelled crab roll and then the special one that doesn’t have a name. They were all delicious! They were made carefully which is important when it comes to sushi! The rice and nori stayed intact for every single piece of sushi! Something that stood out to me was that we were brought a plate or ginger and wasabi next to a cucumber and seaweed salad. NOT to mention! All the classic rolls are half off! We had a great experience! Since we are locals we will definitely be coming back! Thanks Kevin!

Finally saw the OPEN sign on, and decided to try out this new joint on Grand. The menu is full of Japanese and Korean yummies. Craving sushi, we decided to stick to the Japanese side of things. We first ordered yakitori skewers — scallop and beef. Both were delicious. They are priced per skewer so don’t crazy on ordering a bunch — wait for the sushi! Because it was opening weekend, all the classic rolls were ½ price. We ordered a spider roll, shrimp tempura roll, and a spicy tuna tempura roll. The spider roll and the shrimp tempura roll were nicely sized and filled with goodness. The spicy tuna tempura roll was unique. I didn’t particularly care for it because it was partially cooked inside(because of the tempura process), but my fiancé really enjoyed it. The most unique roll we ordered was the Mexican fisherman roll. It is a krab and cream cheese roll(with a bit of jalapeño) topped with a TON of spicy fish. Oh it was so good. Service was fast, and the waitresses were really friendly. We will be back to try the Korean side of the menu out!

This place had its grand opening just a couple days ago, and right now they are having 50% off promotion on all classic rolls! Since its a new restaurant, it’s very clean and neat unlike many other restaurant. Foods are sooo delicious(both Japanese and Korean foods) and presentation is just perfect!!! I’m from San francisco, and I thought the price is totally reasonable compared with the quality of food. And with 50%off promotion, no reason to complain. The servers are friendly and the chef was very nice. I’ll definitely come again and will recommend to my friends :)
