Tonight was my second time here to watch my friends band play and decided to order some food. The Alligator Po’ Boy was excellent! Great atmosphere and the place was packed! Service was a little slow, but that was to be expected due to the volume of people there. So no complaints with that. My only complaint was the place was soo fricking hot! That was the biggest complaint out of everyone I know who was there. I actually started sweating. At that point, I closed out and left. Do something about this!

Been back a couple times since the terrible first visit and it seems the biggest problem was the server-not the overall restaurant. The last two times we had different servers and the experiences were night and day. While the breakfast is good I think the dinner menu is where they shine. The«garbage fries» are great and enough to feed 4 or 5 as an appetizer. It is a huge order of fries covered in three kinds of cheeses, debris-style roast beef, sauteed onions and mushrooms, and jalapenos. The roast beef is wonderful and I will definitely be getting the roast beef po’boy next time we’re there for dinner. Just a few other bits of info: There is ample outdoor seating if you prefer to be outside. Bottomless mimosas on Saturday and Sunday from 9 – 3 Large bar inside for bar seating Restaurant is located directly across from the Gretna courthouse so parking may not be easy during those business hours, but we’ve never has a problem on weekend mornings.

Gretna has been yearning for a venue like this! Finally a great view, decent food but the service SUCKS! My friends and i meet here on a regular basis thinking it’s going to get better? It has NOT… I’m not really sure why they don’t hire more servers or bartenders? Also the dress code has a lot to be desired on the wait staff — ill fitting yoga pants, way too short shorts, and a very«trashy look». There’s equally good places at the lake, Metairie, and elsewhere but they at the least have decently dressed servers and more than 1 bartender on a Friday night. As a lifetime westbanker with an education who will go out anywhere across the city I really try to give the locals a chance. This place lives up to the tarnished reputation the WB has… nothing like their original and classic bar & grill. Please spend some change and upgrade your staff or we will take our $$ elsewhere!

Burger seemed premade, and mediocre at best. Waiter seemed like he didn’t want to be there — told him thank you 20+ times but not one«you’re welcome». This place gets 2 stars because the beer selection was good and the beer was cold.

We went to this restaurant hoping to have lunch on the deck. I spoke to the bartender who was very nice btw and were told there was no food service on the deck. So we got a drink went upstairs and enjoyed the views of the city. After finishing our drinks we went downstairs to have lunch. That’s where our experience turned very sour. We had the crankiest, rudest server who appeared to be so unhappy to be there. When questioned, he mumbled that he was busy. We saw only a few tables on the inside and on the patio that were occupied. We love the river shack on the east bank so we’re very disappointed. I’m sorry, but when dining out we want to have someone who makes the experience at the very least pleasant. We felt guilty for even asking for water. When our food came it was mediocre at best. The French fries were not cooked and po’boys had no flavor. We really want to like this restaurant but until the attitude and food improve, won’t go back.

We held a business crawfish boil social here a few weeks ago. The Shack took care of everything for us and we had no complaints. In the past, at other locations, we’ve had issues with timing of hot food being replenished as needed and having a sufficient amount. That was definitely not the case here. We had a waitress dedicated to our needs(although we had taps set up specifically for us to self-serve) and the boiler couldn’t have done better. Robyn, the Manager, ensured everything ran smoothly. We were to be on the upstairs deck, but rain moved us down to the lower patio. Despite that, everything was exactly what we hoped. Highly recommended.

Really great location. Wonderful possibilities with an outside area and upper deck. TVs so you can watch the game. There was a band wrecking some Beatles tunes and I could not get waited on to save my life. I was on my motorcycle and maybe they don’t serve scooter trash but after 20 min I left. I could like this place if they’d like me back. I should note I did not go up to the bar as I saw severs and thought one might come by. I’ll try it again another time.

The Gretna bar scene has been the same for years: your neighborhood watering hole where everyone knows your name. Your liqour is cold, your food is hot, and your time spent is memorable. The River Shack Gretna takes this experience and amps it up a notch or four. With one of the few scenic views of the River, they compliment this awe-inspiring scenery with a fine selection of beverages(The Huey P. Tea is a must try) and food thats almost a steal(The taste and quantity far outweigh the price.). Come in for a brunch on the weekend and you’ll find tables sprawling with bottomless Mimosas, overflowing plates, friendly wait staff, and smiles wider than Ol’ man river itself. Football season is going to make this place a must go. Ample TV viewing and a kicking sound system is going to make this place a jewel on Sundays(and Saturdays Geaux Tigers!). My words can’t do it justice. Come in and taste it for yourself.

The place is great!!! Food is good, but the drinks are way above average for the west bank!!! Honestly, best prices in town! The bartenders are very knowledgeable and honestly overworked! If there are 30+ people at the bar, you need more than 2 bartenders

Stopped by the River Shack on a Saturday around noon for brunch. We had planned on going another place but once we saw how busy they were we decided to try it. There were no tables outside and we had the kids(5 and 6) so we ate inside. The kids had grilled cheese and fries which they both enjoyed. My son also get a side of eggs which he also enjoyed. I got the club sandwich which was done well with a healthy amount of fries. My wife had a Rise and Shine brunch meal. It had eggs, county potatoes, bacon and toast. She enjoyed it. Everything g we got was plenty of food at a good price. Overall everything was very good and the service was great. Codi was our server and she was wonderful. I would recommend this place to my friends. Btw… 30 beers on tap!!!

Came here on a Saturday found a brunch menu till 3pm. We we’re a little skeptical because they serve bar food any other time. The eggs were great with the sausage not being too salty with nice flavor. The bacon was the best I have tasted in a while. A plus they have a roof top area so you can see the river and downtown!

I realize this is a new place so I’ve given them 4 fair chances. The service has been AWFUL every single time. The food is just ok. It’s kind of a bummer because the location with the outdoor seating is amazing. The place has so much potential. Being a regular in the area I would frequent the place often if the service was up to par, even with food that is nothing special. Hopefully management gets the message and does something to fix the problem. Until then if I stop by I’ll make sure I’m not hungry or thirsty.

Well this is the place to go for bad attitudes and the worst service I love the RiverShack on river road. Great food and awesome FRIENDLY service. I was happy to hear they were opening one on the Westbank and only 5 miles from where I live. I decided to wait awhile so they could get it together and fix any problems that new places always have. Well they have a long ways to go. It’s plenty big enough with an upstairs area but they still have no permit to use it. I went at lunch time and waited for someone to take my order. When I saw that not happening I went inside to find no bartender. Maybe because she was helping the servers since one of them was off to the side using her phone. I got my drink and went back outside. Finally after 15 minutes I got the girls attention for a menu. Ten minutes later she asked me if I still needed it. Are you kidding me and then never came back to take my order. So it’s a how dare you ask for a menu and how dare you think I will take your order. Needless to say I will not be back

I’d give 5 stars on the food and atmosphere and 3 on the service. Our server seemed new and didn’t have much of a personality. Took a long time to get served. The place looks like a ton of fun with a huge indoor and outdoor seating area with a river view upstairs. Will go back, but I hope they increase the servers.

The food is the same menu as the old Rivershack on river road. The beer selection here is a lot bigger and all local craft beer. The service has been getting better and better. They are in a great location for me personally, and a great place to go drink late night or game day. They now offer bottomless mimosa’s for brunch which is also done well. They have done a lot inside to clean it up and make it a great place to eat or drink.

Meh. Expected more in the food department. Especially How it was talked up by the staff. Best part of meal was the wings.

Still seeing some growing pains here, but that will only keep improving. On Saturday during the LSU game, they only had one server. Tough for her to run food, take orders, clear tables… she was spread thin. I think that’s why my fries weren’t hot. But, the burger… oh these burgers are so good! One of my favorites! The space was renovated well, really nice venue. Plenty of outdoor dining and they are still working on a roof top deck where you could potentially eat & drink with a beautiful view of the Mighty Mississippi. Not many places where you have that view! Located in downtown Historic Gretna, at the end of Huey P. Long, the Rivershack is a welcomed addition to the neighborhood. Worth checking out even if you aren’t on the WB. note: Live music every Friday & Saturday night!

This is a review of a lunch on a weekday. We stopped in here for lunch after hearing that Rivershack was opening a Westbank location. I enjoy the food at the other Rivershack, so I came here knowing what to expect. We started with an order of fried pickles and they came with a mustard for dipping. I don’t know what it was about them but they really had no flavor. I don’t know if the batter wasn’t seasoned or what, but they didn’t have any«kick», even with the mustard. For my entrée, I decided to keep it simple and get a chicken Caesar salad. It wasn’t bad and I enjoyed it and it was big, so I had plenty to take home. The salad wasn’t anything overly special, but it was a better alternative to a burger on this particular day. The venue itself is really big and is perfect for live music. I think that they have bands every weekend. They have a lot of beer on tap and everything is fresh and new. The venue is completely smoke free, so it’ll be a nice«fresh air» place to hang out, especially since smoking isn’t banned in bars in Jefferson Parish and every other Westbank bar is a smoke pit.

Rivershack Gretna just opened last week so we decided to try it out! We are more than thrilled to see some new blood in Historic Downtown Gretna. This place is going to be amazing! The upstairs open air deck isn’t done yet, but will be an awesome space to dine while overlooking the Mississippi River being that its location is right by the levee. They have TV’s on the outside patio so this is a great place to catch a game! The draft beer selection is pretty awesome with lots of craft beers on tap. The food was good! They have this amazing sauce that goes with almost anything. The salad I had was HUGE, honestly it was too big to even finish. My husband got the burger and tator tots which he said were good. The service was on par with good attention given while not being overbearing. The menu is one that you would see at a sports bar more or less and the names of the menu items are funny/unique. Welcome to Old Gretna, Rivershack!

Nice to see the Rivershack folks come to old Gretna and review a dead space that always flopped. Standard American and local fare as for the food. Great beer selection and happy hour M-F 4 – 7. They are continuing to finish work on upstairs which overlooks the Mighty Mississippi. Plenty of outdoor seating with ceiling fans and tv’s. They will also soon open a raw and chargrilled oyster bar. Look forward to more good times here.
