I am in love with the PorterHouse food truck so I figured I would give the restaurant a try. Well let’s just say I’ll stick with the food truck. Had I not had that first I might like the restaurant more than I do. The burger didn’t have much on it in terms of bacon and shrooms and wasn’t as juicy as the food truck version. The mac&cheese was pretty good though. The restaurant had a nice bar area and I enjoyed a merlot while I waited for my order. On it’s own I give it 3 stars but the food truck is definitely 5 start so I averaged them out for a 4 star review.

It had been quite a while since we last ate the food here, and that experience was less than stellar, with either the food or the service — and we’d pretty much decided not to return here. But DiningDash offers delivery from this restaurant, and since that would buffer us from the service lapses, we decide to place an order and see how the food came out. We ordered the 13 ounce NY Strip($ 29.90) with 2 sides & added House Salad & Baby Bella Mushrooms, and the Fish & Chips($ 16.90) with a side and another added House Salad — the added salads went for $ 2.90& are in the above prices. The delivery process was flawless, with receipt of the food within 45 minutes. The food, on the other hand, was atrocious in nearly every respect, so bad in fact, it is hard to know where to start. The 2 salads were completely different — one looked like a regular garden salad, the other was almost exclusively lettuce(check the pictures) — an incredibly sloppy, mindless job here. The steak was mealy and completely void of taste and freshness — we each took a single bite & moved on. The accompanying Baby Bella Mushrooms and the Vegetable of The Day(Zucchini) were ordinary at best, with a fair amount of greasiness, and freshness as an issue. The Fish & Chips have not improved, and a great delivery service only partially protects you from restaurant service and kitchen faux pas. The limp coating on the fish pulls off intact, much like a glove or a sock, and what you are left with is quite naked white fish, not without flavor, but certainly not the dish ordered! And I can’t comment on the quality of the Chips because I didn’t get any Chips — not the first flipping Chip — again, look at the picture. The Cole Slaw wasn’t bad, shocker there, but hard to build an evening meal around! It is hard to accept that a restaurant could offer these messed up dishes with so little concern for quality and service, especially at these prices. We eat out a lot, by anyone’s standard, and try to support locally owned and operated restaurants, but there has to be effort at both ends. That was, sadly, not true tonight. Definitely no return here. NOTE: This is posted in response to the owner’s message attached to this review. Mr. Porter: Since you chose to post a public response to my review, I’ll respond publicly. I most likely would simply have ignore this ineffective and misdirected reply entirely had you not attempted to shift some blame to the delivery company — they did their job professionally, your restaurant did not, in my opinion. The refund is appreciated, and though I didn’t request it, it was the only proper response, especially in light of your public reply which contained neither contriteness in any form, nor acceptance of any responsibility for the matter. Your response is to attack me, in one form or another, rather than in any way acknowledge or accept any responsibility for the very sub-par order that was delivered. The second salad was almost completely void of tomato and cucumber, what the picture shows is what we received, nothing shifted in the box. For you to imply that somehow the delivery service was responsible is really rather sad, small, and disappointing. What seems odd to me is that rather than accept what the picture clearly shows, you try to shift the blame, and that attitude is not appreciated, Mr. Porter It doesn’t matter where you purchase your beef, and it doesn’t matter whether you find the grill marks both attractive and somehow informative as to the quality of the meat, this was a bad cut of meat in texture, taste, and freshness, and neither my wife nor I found it edible, period! But again rather than to even remotely consider that this was a bad piece of meat, you twist and turn in an attempt to avoid any responsibility. I ordered the Fish & Chips AGAIN, for the same reason I placed an order with your restaurant AGAIN, hoping that this time it would be better — well, it obviously wasn’t. I’ll not make either mistake again. And it is very interesting, which I find ODD, that your response did not address the«missing» chips, which cannot possibly be related to carelessness on the part of your staff because this simply doesn’t happen, as you stated. Wonder what happen? A theft in mid-deliver? Another delivery service misstep? We may never know. You didn’t receive the meal, we did. You didn’t attempt to eat the meal, we did. And yet, your response is to disavow any possibility that your restaurant, or your employees, could in any way be culpable. I learned something from this entire situation, Mr. Porter, but somehow I feel you didn’t, and based on your attitude, I doubt your employees will either.

The PorterHouse is a good, but not great alternative for dinner. Service has always been good and sometimes they have really good beer on tap! Sometimes, you’ll be served excellent food and sometimes it’ll fall flat on its face. The problem I have is with consistency — sometimes it’s quite good, but most of the time it’s rather average. My last visit, they informed that they were out of many of the beers the menu shows as available on draft, and that they didn’t have a single rotating tap. Well that stinks. Ordered my dinner and it was just okay. Their burgers are usually good, so on a Monday they’re on special, so that’s a great time to visit. Katie enjoyed her salad during this visit — a standard grilled chicken salad with feta, various veggies and oil/vinegar for dressing. Extremely standard fare and difficult to screw up and she deemed it perfect. Our server during this visit was also excellent, perfectly attentive without being overbearing. For me, the PorterHouse is hit and miss. It’s a place I won’t seek out to visit on my own, but if friends want to meet there, I’m not going to pass.
