I’ve been to Lumberjacks twice. The first time I had their ¼ lb burger which came with potato salad and I ordered a one trip to the salad bar. I would have liked to weighed the meat because I don’t think it was ¼lb. The meat was pretty tasteless but the burger had a nice portion of lettuce, tomato and pickle on it. I didn’t like the potato salad as it was to sour for me, dill pickles I think. My next trip I tried the 12 oz rib eye steak dinner the came with a baked potato, one trip to the salad bar, and had onion and mushrooms on top of the steak. I believe it cost $ 12.99. The meat was pretty tasteless, over cooked and very thin. I guess the thinner to meat spreads it out and makes it look like you are getting a larger steak. Their were lots of onions and few mushrooms. The baked potato could have been cooked longer. A nice little loaf of bread came with the dinner and was very good. The salad bar is okay and the dressing was good. My son ordered the largest burger. It was huge but he said the meat didn’t have any flavor and the the bread/bun was smashed flat. His sweet potato fries were good as were my granddaughter’s regular fries. The portions were large on the fries. I would have preferred less on the size and better tasting food. I won’t order another steak if I go back but will give their breakfast a try. Both times that I have been their the service was very good and I didn’t have a long wait. I give the service a 5 star.

We went in for their salad bar but after finding out that their«Ultimate Salad Bar» ONE trip was a tiny bowl for Eight dollars! We were totally disappointed! Maybe if you’re in the mood for a Turkey Sandwich. I’m guessing that this restaurant is a fine place for breakfast but considering that there are many great breakfast places in the area, I won’t recommend it. The server was pleasant the entire time but don’t waste your time, not worth it.

After dining at Lumberjacks several times over the past few weeks it is time I leave a new review. First off I must say Stephanie is THEBESTSERVER at this restaurant. She waited on us several times and as this is our last trip we hoped she was here tonight. No such luck, so Stephanie thank you for taking excellent care of us and making us feel so welcome. The food was always yummmmmy everything was prepared perfectly! It was nice to have a hearty meal after a long days work. The manager(or the woman in the burgandy shirt, who barked orders) could use some help. She is way too loud when ordering her staff to do their side work. She would prefer the work be done to the detriment of the patrons. Stephanie seemed able to balance both with ease, the other servers not so much. The servers seemed afraid of the«barker» and did other tasks and seemed unable to return to their tables to tend to the guests. Perhaps a bit of honey over the vinegar would serve the restaurant better. A please and thank you can go a long ways in this world. Stephanie keep up the good work you are a true asset to Lumberjacks the«barker» could learn a lot from you.

There was no one else in the restaurant when arriving. Service was very slow. The waitress brought our food out which was warm, not hot. Service was all around bad & I also found a hair in my luke warm sandwhich. Never going back nd don’t recommend.

Décor was interesting, the basil tomato soup was fine. My small prime rib and baked potato were horrible. The first baked potato was cold. Looked good with all that stuff on it, but cold. The second one brought was luke warm — wouldn’t even melt the butter. I told the waitress I wanted a hot piece of prime rib so if medium is what it took, then medium would be fine. Nope. It was luke warm too. No flavor, and their serrated blade steak knife couldn’t get through the gristle, it took my pocketknife to get bite sized pieces. Pretty bad meal when the bread was the hottest thing on the plate. Bought some Pepsi and cookies at the grocery store next store — finally something great! One star for the basil tomato soup, the second star for the waitress. I’ll make it simple — don’t eat here.

They should get zero stars. They aren’t open until 10:00. Or maybe they are and just decided to close early.

So I have been here a couple of times, and my goodness they just cant get it right. They are advertising under new management so I decided to try again and what do you know the same guy is managing so to me if the owners are lying about that(right in front of your eyes) then what else would he lie about and that’s the reason I wont be back the manager is aweful and really doesn’t care about the customer service in that store. The dessert case is disgusting, just wondering what the back of the place looks like. I walked in looked at that saw the manager and left.

Jacob has amazing customer service skills! Very impressed. He is the reason for 2 of the 3 stars. The additional star is for the skillet that my husband ordered. The skillet was made to perfection and was warm all the way through. Negative was I ordered a grilled turkey and cheese sandwich on sourdough. When my food was brought to the table, my sandwich only had ¼ of a piece of cheese on it and the cheese was not melted. It was sent back to the kitchen for cheese. When the sandwich came back, it had cheese but it wasn’t melted again. The turkey was ice cold. Our server explained that the cook was new and that he should have grilled the turkey on the grill prior to putting it on the sandwich. He said we could send it back again if we wanted to. I declined the offer. I accepted the sandwich as and dealt with it. There was no compensation or discount given. We were charged full price for a cold grilled cheese… Epic Fail Lumberjack’s. This is the last time we will be going.

Salad bar was delicious. The food portions are large. Nice selection of food. They offer fruit with your meal if you’d rather not have the fries. BLT was yummy & the service was great. If you’re in the area you should give it a try.

Their slogan ‘where the big boys eat’ was no joke. The dinner roll that came with our meal was like a mini loaf of bread! It was very yummy! I had the talapia which came with two large filets, and were very delish! My J had the whiskey sirloin which was also a very large cut and he was very pleased with the taste as well. And the sweet potatoe fries were super yum! The service was great as well! Our server was cute as can be, and he was very helpful. There weren’t a lot of people in the restaurant, but he did a good job. They had a big screen tv that was playing a lumberjack logging contest that was pretty interesting to watch… I thought that was a cute themey touch. We were pleased with our dinner and experience.

Hit or miss. The service is always good and they always get my order right. The food is generally served in large portions. Not much to choose from if you are looking for something light. Sometimes to the point of being wasteful. The last visit I ordered chicken fried steak with eggs. The eggs were cooked to order, and the country potatoes were decent. The steak however was overcooked to an extreme crisp. Dry and salty and flavorless. I had asked for the gravy on the side so they couldn’t hide the meat under a bath of gravy. The gravy was tasteless and the biscuit was like eating a sack of flour. I think I would have preferred a smaller portion of meat cooked less and more tender and juicy. The dinners are usually plain and simple comfort foods and I usually order breakfast as it is usually pretty good. I have tried some of the dinners and they are ok. Nothing special. The salad bar is always fresh and clean and has a decent selection.

Worst experience EVER! Don’t eat here… horrible food, terrible management! When I visit a restaurant to dine, the last thing I want to hear is a manager yelling at the employee’s… He should know better! There are plenty of good restaurants in Grass Valley that value how they treat their employees and customers… Also, there is no consistency is the food at this restaurant…

Our group of 4 arrived at 9pm on a Sunday night. We were very happy to see the place still open. Our expectations were not that high, but the experience was not great. The staff was friendly and attentive, although the place was mostly empty. The«Ultimate Ribeye Steak» was at least half the size it was advertised to be, and only ¼″ thick. It was a big disappointment. The double chicken breasts were tiny. The ground round with gravy was huge and tasty. The salad bar was a bit tired, but OK considering the late hour. We saw other groups being served large portions of food and we expected the same, but with very mixed results. We saw a big basket of onion rings go by and thought those would make a good starter. Instead of a big basket served as an appetizer, we got a plate with 7 onion rings served with the meal. The wait person did apologize and say«I’m sorry for the small portion; here’s a few onion rings.» But, the full price still appeared on the bill. It was almost as though they were running out of food and didn’t want to cook any more, so they spread the food they had over the four of us. Had they reduced our bill accordingly, that would have been OK, but they didn’t do that. The chefs made their money and the wait staff got a generous tip, but we were shortchanged, big time.

Great food with very big portions and nice staff but the food took a REALLY long time to get to our table making the overall experience poor. And they should be trained to help disabled.

Well, if you’re looking for somewhere cheap, then Lumberjacks is the place to go. If you don’t mind below average food quality and maple syrup that smells like oranges and pours like water, then chew on. There service was minimal. Not bad or rude, just minimal. Hurry and sit, here’s a menu, here’s your food, good bye. Lol This place is always full, so apparently there are heaps of folks out there who just don’t care or perhaps don’t know any better. For me, I just didn’t care for it. The atmosphere was VERYLOUD and the food just tasted like cafeteria/hospital food. I suppose it’s good for a group with a lot of kids and want to keep it on the cheap.

I went here both Saturday and Sunday over Father’s Day weekend. I went with 4 friends of mine on the Saturday for a late breakfast and I decided to try the Ultimate Breakfast. Holy toledo, that is a lot of food. Included with the Ultimate Breakfast is French Toast, Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Ham, and Potatoes. The sausages are great. I had to leave some of the ham and bacon untouched as I was full. When are group was ready for the check, our waitress, Katie, asked if we’d like the check split up so we could all pay individually. I thought that was great and it was as if she read our minds. Sunday was Father’s day and I was back for more. Even though it was a holiday, it only took 3 friends and me(we lost a friend since Saturday) about 10 minutes to get seated. This time I ended up getting the Jack’s Omelette which included cheese, bacon, sausage, and ham — served with potatoes and toast. I also got a glass of orange juice that they make fresh inside the restaurant. We wished we had requested Katie to be our waitress again though as our waitress on Sunday forgot a few of the items we requested and we had to ask her to split up our bill individually too — I guess we got spoiled the day before. Overall, it was a good experience — better than a Dennys for sure.
