I am very particular about styles of espresso drinks. Latte’s have steamed milk, espresso, and a small amount of foam. Hint ladies: Microfoam is still foam. I don’t want 3 inches of it on a 12 oz latte. You make great baked goods but need to learn how to listen to customer requests when it comes to coffee. Your cake is better than your coffee by a far sight. I have tried here at least three times with three different baristas. It just isn’t happening. There are other coffee shops that have better coffee in town. For starters:

I’m a certified asshole about coffee. If you are one of those folks that walk out of Costco with one of those firetruck red plastic tubs of pre-ground coffee(you know the brand I mean) and DON’T have immediate plans to bludgeon someone with it, but instead have designs on brewing it and putting it «in your cup,» then stop reading and enjoy your sludge. Real coffee comes from beans(it’s true) that are ground at least on the same day you enjoy your cup. Bonus points if it’s made by a cute lass with some tattoos. Anyway, point is I’m an asshole. So when it’s comforting that when I’m in a town with«Valley» in the name I can still procure a decent cup. They serve Temple Coffee from Sacramento, and the baristas were very happy to talk about their products. A sense a lot of pride. Happy to stop by anytime I’m in town.

This is one of my favorite businesses in Grass Valley. They have it figured out. Got a birthday cake for a friend recently, and it was the best carrot cake I’ve ever eaten. Wonderful lunch and coffee spot, too.

There’s a lady that usually works there who is either reserved or just downright unfriendly, otherwise they deserve five stars for bakery deliciousness. Coffee is good — basic Temple offerings, and they do a decent pull here so you won’t end up with any obvious problems, just recognize that it’s Temple coffee and the limitations therein if you’re used to drinking it. Overall it’s a great, clean establishment with a mostly friendly family atmosphere. They’ve done a great job decorating and there’s plenty of seating. This is the place to be in Grass Valley if you want baked goods and coffee in one sitting.

The coffee cake is to die for. The coffee is perfect. The quiche is delicious. Salted chocolate chip cookies. Fresh fruity baked things. And to top it all off the women that own this place are amazing-always welcoming and thoughtful. One of my favorite businesses in town.

I had a really nice experience here. They brew Temple coffee which is my favorite. This is a small, nice spot where you can bring your computer and work. I also gave into temptation and had a tasty scone. It was fantastic. Not too sweet like a lot of places do it. Really flaky and wonderful with the coffee. I can’t wait to go back.

I had a few minutes to spare and thought I would walk down to Brewbakers in DT. I was not impressed! First off the black-and-white mocha I bought had no body to it! Very lacking in taste! I also bought a challah(a Jewish stable, made correctly very moist and flavorful). And again was very disappointed. Either the loaf had been sitting on the counter for a few days or someone over baked it. VERYDRY and couldn’t find any flavor. Guess it will become very expensive croutons. Will NOT return !!

I love Brewbakers — their coffee and treats are so tasty. I’ve always been greeted with a big smile and how are you — they recognize me now :) I think they’re great and I especially love the three pillars coffee — if it’s not available they’ll do a pour over for you.

Where do I begin! This place is by far my favorite coffee shop. I live in Sacramento but the drive to Grass Valley is definetly worth it! Their coffee is amazing! I usually get the breve latte and it quickly became my favorite. Their chocolate chip cookies are to die for! The challah bread is definitely their best treat! Everything is fresh and delicious!

What a great discovery, exactly what I needed. I had some home made blue berry cake, buttery and delicious. The Americano hit the spot. Nicole is so friendly, she knows everything about each bakery item. Drop by, you can’t miss.

Loved the cozy and friendly atmosphere! I had a sugar dusted brioche roll, and my hubby had the apple strudel, both delicious! We shared a slice of the sun-dried tomato & spinach quiche, was really good as well. I am not a coffee drinker, but my husband is and he said it was really good! We bought a cinnamon sugar brioche loaf that came right out of the oven, to take home. We had a slice when arriving at home, and oh man is it good!

Good coffee, average food, bad service. I recently moved into town and this is the closest coffee place to apartment. After going in there about 5 times in a week, I decided I’d rather find a place where the staff seems interested in doing their jobs.

Brew bakers is definitely one of my favorite bakeries in town. I have been there about 6 times now so purchase baked goods and lattes. They have a cozy yet artsy motif going and the set up is nice. Their food is wonderfully prepared and the coffee tastes great! I do however have some very specific feedback for improvements. Every time I have gone in to order a latte, I haven’t been greeted in the most welcoming and friendly way. I almost felt out of place actually. Making sure to greet your customers as if they are a guest in our home and that you are pleased to help is one of the most important things you can do as a new business in a small town. You want every single new customer to feel appreciated when they visit your business and have them leave with the feeling of wanting to return. I have been helped by 3 different ladies and I felt the same way with all of their service. I really hope that this small, yet crucial point, in taken to heart because they have everything else going for them. I love having them right downtown too. Thank you & Good luck BrewBakers!

I visit probably about 3 new coffee shops a week due to my very-mobile-but-still-needing-wifi-to-get-paid lifestyle. I’m not an expert on coffee shops, but I’ve been to more than most. Brew Baker’s door states their mission clearly: Coffee First. Cake Always. The coffee’s good, but it’s the homemade treats made by the owner that really stand out. Savory quiches and scones for breakfast. Sweets that somehow walk the line of delicate and hearty. Chicken and dumpling soup, literally JUST off the stove, that my lady said was among the best soups she’s had. Super cute. Very limited outlets, the table near the pastry cooler is your best bet. Bathroom situation is «nice and cute.» Clean too. Anyway, this is a new business in DT Grass Valley that deserves your business. It’s a bit on the pricey side but not so much that you don’t deserve it.

The wife and I popped into this place on a whim while driving through downtown Grass Valley and immediately decided it will become our new«regular.» The first thing that hits you when you walk in the door is the aroma of baking pastries. Everything is made fresh in house each day and it shows. We each had an iced coffee and a cookie which were all amazing, and decided to sit for awhile because the atmosphere was very comfortable and inviting. After some great coffee, treats and conversation with the owner, Robin, we took off but we will DEFINITELY be returning regularly!

This sweet little coffee shop is exactly what downtown Grass Valley has been missing. I’m giving this five stars based on what it is. This is a quiet, quaintly-decorated, family-owned café run by a mother and her daughters. They make their own pastries and quiche in the back. They serve Temple Coffee(really great, out of Sacramento) and make espresso drinks to order. They have a small selection of teas. It has the feel of walking into someone’s lovely kitchen. The pastries are different each day. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. Because the coffee shop just opened, they are still settling into their hours and getting used to a schedule. Half the staff is still working at the farmer’s markets to make ends meet so you might want to call ahead if you are planning a trip. If you are just meandering down Mill Street though, be sure to check it out for yourself.
