Ordered from them through LABite, as I’ve done before, last night, 2÷10÷16. I then was up the whole night because their food was coming out both ends… at the same time. Needless to say, they gave me food poisoning. I’ve been up all night throwing up their food and continue to experience the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. Have ordered from them many times before, but never again.

Loved this place when they first opened. After a few years it was not as good, not sure why. After a long break, we came back and ate by the bar. Food was great, drinks were great, a male and female bartenders,(did not get names) were awesome! Excellent customer care and service. Thank you both!!!

This restaurant has a brilliant business model: Serve 7 – 11 grade sushi for 5-star prices. The food is awful, the prices are ridiculous and all the employees are untrained teenagers and college kids. How is this place still in business?

I have been to the location in downtown LA; therefore, I expected the same service and quality of food. The food was not good and service slow…

Maybe I have terrible luck but every time I come here, the server forgets one of the orders from my table. We ordered edamame so we can munch on something while we wait for food. The waiter didn’t realize that he forgot to order the edamame until the crispy rice, Americana roll, shoyu ramen, and portobello sliders were brought out. I also recall the time they had forgotten my mother’s tempura. Everyone was nearly done eating and they claimed the chef was still cooking it. She was not happy. I’ve had the lychee sake and it was interesting. If you’re adventurous, I recommend u try it! Food was good but it wasn’t worth the wait.

This location is NOTHING like the one on Hollywood & Vine. Please visit the Hollywood location to give Katsuya a fair shot. I came to this location expecting the same vibe, service, food, and crowd as the Hollywood location & I was terribly mistaken. I go to the Americana often and I would always skip out on eating at Katsuya because I expected this location to be just as high end & classy. Came in here on a day I felt like spending a little extra & I regretted that decision the moment we were seated. There is nothing upscale or welcoming about the location. It also doesn’t hold up to the quality I would expect for the Americana to have from its restaurants. The entire staff needs a reality check. The food is incredibly mediocre and the service is pretty slow. And then to get the check and feel that burn in your wallet is the last straw. The only reason I would even give this place one star is because our waitress was polite. Honestly, I wouldn’t be back even if someone offered to pay for my meal. I wouldn’t suggest this location to anyone.

Nothing really special about this place, first time going and wasn’t so happy with my experience. Definitely better sushi spots and less expensive, we paid $ 150 for two people. Only nice part was the ambiance and the seating was outdoor comfy booth.

Nice ambiance for dinner but the food was just okay. We sat outside, but it was warm enough with the heat lamps. We went during the holiday season, so it was cute to see it snow. We were assured that the«snow» was non toxic, it better be cause it was landing on our food! We ordered: Crispy rice– one free with a Unilocal check in and on the LA eater’s must try list. It was pretty good Poke– too much jazz. I like clean and simple poke and this was done up too much Rock shrimp tempura– I liked this too Sunset roll Spider roll Katsuya roll– I’m not a fan of the smoked flavor Poochi poochi– sweet but too sweet, 50% off on Mondays… score! Maybe this place is cool just for HH and poochi poochi for sure, but the rolls and sushi were mediocre.

Service was nice. The hubby got a yellow tail special roll, pork belly sliders and a beer. I got the bibimbap with beef. Not authentic Japanese obviously. The sliders were good. Everything OK except for the price. All together we paid about $ 50. The bathrooms need light, cleaning more often, and a changing station!

Our first experience to Katsuya was not a pleasant one. I went with my brother and my friend who is Japanese. After tasting our food, she was disturbed that this establishment was attempting to represent Japanese cuisine. I had the Wafu Carbonara(Bacon Lovers Dream). It wasn’t a dream, but more like a nightmare. It did not resemble a carbonara at all, in any way, shape or form. It had a strong hint of artificial, industrial solvent. My Japanese friend had the Nabeyaki Udon. Based on the menu description she expected a flavorful dish, but ended up with a few overcooked limp noodles immersed in a bland broth. The broth was comparable to mushroom water. It was so tasteless that she was forced to commit a sin in Japanese food culture; she added soy sauce in order to finish her dish. On top of all that, it was highly overpriced for an abysmal portion. The only positive thing we experienced was the friendliness of our waitress. In a nutshell, you’re better off eating top ramen and sushi from a grocery store at home. Your taste buds and your wallet will thank you for it.

I came here around 8:00PM on 12÷27÷15 which was a Sunday. The gf and I wanted to try this place since it was still open. When we were seated our server, Daniel, seemed attentive and eager to serve us which seemed like a good sign. No. It wasn’t. We ordered their $ 13.50 udon and I got the wafu carbonara. We also did the Unilocal check in and got the crispy rice with tuna which took about 15 min to receive. I don’t get why this place still exists at the Americana. I’m assuming the only reason why people still come here must be for the ambiance. When the gf got her food it was lukewarm and it was served by another server. The soup wasn’t even hot and her shrimp tempura was soggy. So I’m sitting there wondering was it just sitting out there for like 20 minutes unattended??? Plus for $ 13.50 you get a small amount of food. Not worth it. It wasn’t even good and the broth was disgusting. After she got her food I assumed my food was going to come next. Minutes go by and I see our server Daniel serving other tables their food. Then I see a another server walk by and I thought my food coming… only to realize that the same exact thing I ordered was going to another table with a family that came after we got seated. The table had a mom, dad, and daughter, and they got their food first somehow. Also their order came out quite fast which I didn’t understand when my girl and I had just ordered 2 things off their menu. Thinking that they had forgotten my order, I asked a different server to see if my carbonara was ready, and she said something along the lines of «yeah it’s being prepared thank you for your patience.» I’m guessing they’re probably trained to have a default response ready because I’m assuming this happens most of the time. Because I thought it was going to take a while so I flagged down Daniel again and I ordered some crispy rice with tuna to fill our empty stomachs. Funny how this order comes out like another 15 minutes later by another server yet again and he continues to serve the other tables. By the time the point of starvation is over my order comes out. It took literally 40 min for me to get my wafu carbonara. I was almost tempted to just tell the new server I didn’t want the food anymore, but I didn’t wanna be a bitch to someone who just innocently came by to serve us food. It was just disappointing to see that they wouldn’t serve the customers who get there first. Maybe they had something against us when we didn’t even do anything but be paying customers. As a result, we did not leave tip. I understand the dinner rush is busy, but wow the service was so terrible I was very tempted to just up and leave. If the food sucks at least make up for it in the service and if the service sucks, just don’t even come here. As a result I will not be coming back to this place and it sucks that service is so bad here. They need a new restaurant to replace this building or they need better trained staff.

Let me start off saying that the people were nice and I understand the rush cause it’s the day after Christmas but when four parties who came after you(one of them even came 30 mins after we did) get their food before you, you are bound to get a little upset. Small portions are fine. Everything tastes fresh.

Terrible. In agreement with the other reviews. Just plain bad. Everyone of my friends agrees that this is the worst Katsuya you could go to. They need a serious quality check on the food and service and need to revamp this place. It doesnt suite the standards of the Americana to have such a shitty Katsuya. I love Katsuya and when I think of it I think vibrant, fun and lively as I have experienced at the Hollywood and Vine location. This Katsuya is empty usually because its so bad and expensive that there is no reason to go there.

This place has improved over time now being a seasoned restaurant. They have my favorite California roll. I’m not usually a huge California roll person, but they taste really fresh. The past couple times the uni has been ONPOINT! The rock shrimp tempura is always a crowd fave. The bacon wrapped tomatoes were a hit. A tasty dish that my friends like is the carbonara dish.

Decided to come here on a Tuesday night and it wasn’t very busy(probably because of a workday). We got the Rainbow Roll and some roll with salmon and lemon. My friend enjoyed the Rainbow Roll more because she didn’t like the sauce they put on the lemon. I think they put cream cheese. I liked both, but did enjoy the Rainbow Roll more. The sauce was a bit too much and so was the lemon. The service was a bit slow; it was hard to find my waitress, so I just started asking random people because we didn’t want to wait forever. I do like the outdoor seating; their benches are very comfortable, although I did feel short. The heaters did the trick since it’s been pretty chilly.

There is nothing really special about this place, considering the prices. I have no problem splurging on sushi if it means I’m getting quality fish, which in this case you are, but you have to order a whole lot of food if you want to leave satisfied. I love their spacious patio area. The service here used to be so bad back in the day, but luckily the issue has been fixed. Seems like they were way understaffed and it was a major issue. I highly recommend you get the double hamachi roll(spicy tuna with yellow tail and jalapeño on top), their spicy tuna on crispy rice and do not dare not get the brussel sprouts! They are to die for. Aside from that they have really good beef skewers and their slider are great as well, if you’re not a big seafood fan. Overall, I would say its a great place to come by once in a while, but if you are having major sushi withdrawals, like I do sometimes, I recommend going some place where you can get heartier rolls.

Monday night dinner with a friend. There was no wait and we were seated right away. We had a patio booth, which come with some very comfortable seats. I ordered an iced green tea, which didn’t quite taste like tea at all. If I didn’t see the green colouring then I swear it could have just been water. The flavouring on the spicy edamame is great, so many spices for sure. The second appetizer was the Gyoza. They came on an extremely hot pan. These bad boys are amazing. So much flavour that you don’t even need to dip it into the sauce that’s provided. My main course was the steak teriyaki ordered medium-well, which came with a side of potatoes and greens. Some kind of sauce was also given for dipping. The steak itself was pre cut, and extremely tender. I tried to savour every bite. Our waiter was Anthony. Friendly guy and was attentive. He refilled my tea several times and came back to check on us. Free parking validation from the restaurant. Also a nice view of the water show.

Green tea is $ 5??? The free spicy tuna crispy rise was soggy and cold(obviously premade) and had a weird flavor– fish was NOT Fresh. Poor/slow service, had $ 15 dollars worth of items on my bill that wasn’t even mine. Server didn’t even apologize and walked away with my bill saying«that’s not you that’s not you» but with my card in the sleeve. It’s been 10 minutes waiting for the manager to come clear the mistake apparently… ugh. NEVER coming back here again! You can literary eat double the amount of food and 100x’s fresher at the original Katsu-ya in Studio City!

***FREECRISPYRICE with spicy tuna with Unilocal check-in!!! Katsuya is usually very Americanized and over-priced, but since I have a special 50% off deal this time. My experience was very pleasant! We sat outdoor. The weather was nice, but the ceiling fan was blowing a bit much. The Lobster Dynamite was very good, but it was a bit too salty. I would enjoy it more if I was eating it with a bowl of rice. It was a nice half lobster with mushrooms served as a dynamite. Unfortunately, the lobster claw was raw. I love lobster sashimi, but not when it’s not supposed to be. I checked with the waitress, she said it’s not supposed to be raw, and she was very nice to compensate it. I liked the Tuna Poke. The small chips added texture to the dish. Sushi were decent. The Jumbo Scallop Sushi was very nice with a taste of lemon in it. Sweet Shrimp Sushi came with Crispy Deep Fried Sweet Shrimp Heads. They were out of Uni when I went. Sushi Rolls were pretty nice too. I normally wouldn’t order Bibimbop at a Japanese restaurant, but I gave it a try and it turned out very good. Cocktail drinks are a blast. My favorite is the Watermelon Cucumber Mojito. Super refreshing with fresh watermelon pulps in it. Also got promotion — if using a Citibank for a $ 50 or more meal at participating restaurants at Americana at Brand, we get 2 free movie tickets at Pacific Theatres + 2 free popcorn! Promotion ends 6÷30÷2015.
