Nice atmosphere. My boyfriend and I came in for a drink and an appetizer. Got the calamari and it was good, crispy yet not chewy like some restaurants. Our server was nice and friendly. Would come back to try a dinner!

Always a pleasurable visit. And the food is good too! Looks like they figured out how to make this location work.

We went back and tried their burgers, totally delish! I would definitely recommend sticking with their ‘pub faire’ rather than venturing into the world of entrees. We tried the ‘Loaded B.H.T. Chips’ which were awesome, a different take on loaded fries which was definitely welcomed. They make the chips in house, and top them with a ton of extras. It’s like nachos meets loaded fries! I had the Rex burger and my wife had the Turkey burger. These were both really delicious and juicy!

OK, my first date with the love of my life was here. And I return often. For the excellent food, for the generous drinks, and for the amazing service. So, why only four stars you may ask? Well, I need to leave some room for improvement as you will see below. I love the atmosphere here. The bar is lively but maintains that classy edge that invites you back again and again. The TVs are well distributed to never miss your favorite game. The restaurant, considering it is a tavern, is quiet enough for intimate conversation but still noisy enough to provide that delightful pub atmosphere. The food is above average for a tavern and the service, despite above average crowds is impeccable. So, where is the room for improvement? A pub this good needs more pub food than standard wings and the like. I would love to see a tavern menu with more small bite choices. And a tavern where I watch a football game needs a man-sized steak on the menu. A porterhouse, a bone-in ribeye, or prime rib. Those two tiny changes = perfection. But, even without those, there is plentry to keep me coming there. Often.

On my boyfriends never ending quest for the best burger we found ourselves at Birch Hill Tavern per a friends recommendation. We went on a Saturday night, and it was quite busy but we found ourselves a spot at the bar and that was perfect. They had a great beer selection– both on tap and on bottle and very knowledgeable bartenders. I got fish tacos and boyfriend got a burger. The fish tacos were delicious, and perfectly cooked. The burger had fresh toppings and was cooked a touch past medium well, so if you like your burgers with a little more pink you should specify. That being said, he didn’t think the burger was overdone or dry. If it wasn’t so far of a hike we would consider ourselves regulars here.

I loooove this place, mainly because it’s the best and latest iteration of the old family owned Italiano restaurant that used to haunt this location for years. It’s changed hands a few times since, and it just keeps getting better & better. It’s certainly NOT cheap, but serves this particular area which is pretty dead if not for Birch Hill tavern. The food is pretty good, try the fish tacos or delicious bowl of chili on a cold winter night. It’s really a tavern type of menu, with a few nice surprises.(No soup or stew, which I would have enjoyed.) Also, check for happy hour times. Depending on the staff for the particular evening, your actual experience may vary. It is a fun place with sports on the tvs, but still has a cool upscale vibe, yet you will still see families mixed in among the clientele. The drinks can be spectacular or just ok depending on the staff that night. That cost a star, but still a pleasant overall experience. Be forewarned: since it’s «the only game in town» due to the isolated area, you can’t get near the place on a Friday night!(They don’t take reservations)

Birch Hill Tavern is an excellent restaurant that I enjoy visiting whenever I am up in that area of Glastonbury. The food is great– my husband swears by the Rex burger and I love their salads. It can get pretty packed since it is the only restaurant in that area so you might wait a while for a table but it is definitely worth it. They have an excellent beer selection as well.

This is one of my favorite places to come to eat and drink. Everything about BHT is awesome from the atmosphere to the food and the beer selection. It’s not a huge place but they do a really great business, especially on the weekends, so expect a wait. You can’t really go wrong with anything on the menu. Some of my favorites include their chicken wings, ribs, and fish tacos. Their burgers and salads are also always reliable. The Cuban sandwich is probably the only thing that I’ve ever gotten that I wasn’t in love with(mainly because the pork was dry) On my last visit I ordered the short rib ravioli and it was excellent. The ravioli were large and the sauce was delicious! I highly recommend this place, especially if you’re a beer lover as they are always getting new and awesome stuff in. I only wish they rotated their food menu a little bit more, not because the food is bad, but I’d be excited to see what else they could create!

The food is decent with fresh ingredients but the service is terrible. They bar tender war less than courteous and made us feel unwelcome. For that reason on the ducting a star and a half free before I would have to maybe given them

We have been back a few times since my last review. I did notice a change in the fish tacos. Thank you listening! They are much better now. However, I would have liked to have a larger piece of fish on the taco. The calamari is one of the best I’ve ever had. I also tried the tomato, basil and chicken sandwich, which was very tasty. The only downside of coming here is we always walk out feeling like we spent way more than what we received. All the little add ons make a difference. A burger or sandwich quickly turns expensive when you have to pay extra for a side.

The brothers did it again! Always great quality food, tasty, presented well with a perfect selection of Tavern bites, burgers, full-on meals and libations that do not disappoint! Try this and the now year-old Sayulita in S. Glastonbury for a mouth-watering combination of new fangled mexican done just right.

I have been coming here for nearly 3 years and can’t imagine why I have not reviewed this place until now but it’s a great little place. It’s kind of off the beaten path in Glastonbury heading east on Hebron away from the downtown Main Street area. I can’t say I’ve had many different entrees here but I’ve never had anything I did not like. And by that I mean like a lot. The beet salad topped with grilled salmon is a winner for sure. The fish tacos, also very good. My husband has been more adventurous and has also really enjoyed each meal he’s had. The tap list is not huge as at some bars around but what is offered is unique, varied and fresh. I usually can’t make up my mind right away, but the staff is always knowledgable, can explain the beers characteristics and happily provide a sample to try. There is usually more than a few beers on tap there at any given time I want to have! I’ve brought friends and relatives here and they’ve enjoyed it a lot also. I’ve also stopped in for a beer from time to time myself and always feel welcome. It’s nice to know this place is close to home where you can get great good and beer, and feel very at home!

I always love their burgers but today they had smoked brisket! I know smoked brisket in new England is hard to come by so I had to have it! Glad I did because the brisket was super tender with smokey flavors and the BBQ sauce was rich!!! Btw, onion rings are perfection here. Cheers Birch Hill, you guys rock my socks!

Amazing beer and bourbon lists! This is not your average tavern food. Gourmet burgers, apps and flat breads. The turkey burger with the jalapeño relish was amazing. Great place for dinner at a table or sitting at the bar for drinks and a bit to eat.

Ok, after coming back here a few more times, I have to say that — as long as you’re ok with occasionally spotty service — the menu and beer selection is definitely supreme. Their drafts are well-cultivated for the season and feature lots of local beers. Don’t forget their bottle list, too, though, which is robust and also features some excellent choices. As for the food, I’ve mostly had big wins. The short rib ravioli was really, really good. It comes with four large ravioli and can easily be split — though you’re not going to want to split it because it’s so delicious and juicy. I also really enjoyed the honey wings, which were succulent and meaty, as well as the trifecta flatbread. This spot is definitely popular for families, so it can be noisy at times in the dining room. Though even the bar sometimes as loud adult parties, as well. Every time I’ve come, there has been some weird delay with our food, and we always end up having to ask our waitress or waiter what the ETA is. Not sure what that’s about, but it’s been worth the wait.

This was a great find, and we found it though Unilocal. We were going to be in the area and were looking for a place to eat lunch. When we got there we found a clean and warm atmosphere and friendly, welcoming staff. The list of beers is long, maybe not as extensive as some restaurants, but filled with unique and interesting selections. The lunch items were great — my wife loved the scallops salad and I enjoyed the wings appetizer(especially the BBQ flavor) which is easily enough for a lunch. Then, an incredible cherry cheesecake. We found our waitress to be helpful and enthusiastic– she seemed proud of her restaurant. We don’t live in the area but will make this a regular stop whenever we’re in Glastonbury.

If you’re looking for an authentic neighborhood tavern, this is your place. It’s kind of tucked away in the back of a small strip mall, but inside it’s very warm, cozy and comfortable. They have a very good beer selection that will get the attention of any beer connoisseurs, and menu items are of the«high end comfort food» variety. I had the oh-so-trendy but oh-so-good lobster mac and cheese, and my daughter had a delicious fried chicken sandwich. Very friendly service, too.

Meh, is just about the perfect description for our experience. The food wasn’t bad, it just didn’t WOW me. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go back. The server was very nice and accommodating though.

This is a great restaurant not far from home that I wish I knew about many moons ago! About a month ago we were looking for a new place to try for a friend’s birthday. Naturally, I went to Unilocal and birch hall tavern stuck out to me. Good reviews… good menu… solid drink list… close to home. We couldn’t make a reservation which wasn’t ideal but there ending up being space in the bar for us to wait. After having about one drink at the bar our table was ready. One thing I immediately loved about this restaurant was that they leave a carafe of water at the table. Most people could careless but I drink A LOT of water so this was much appreciated! Anyways. We ordered a few appetizers and everything was not only great but arrived pretty quick. I got a burger and it was awesome! All of my dining companions enjoyed their food. We all couldn’t believe we missed out on this restaurant for so long. Needless to say, can’t wait to head to Birch hill tavern again soon!

What a charming place. I may upgrade this review with 5 stars when I revisit the restaurant. Location: The location is on the Glastonbury(south) and Manchester line. It is in an unlikely place. It’s in a plaza with Highland Market, a dry cleaners and across from a Walgreens. Upon entering the restaurant there was a vibe that this was the place to be on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant was clean, country chic(I’m a city girl) and welcoming. There was more people dining in than expected. Customer Service: The hostess was pleasant and quickly sat us. We were fortunate to have Chris as our server. He was pretty cool. I asked for recommendations/suggestions and he was great about it. I tend to listen to the server who take the time to point out their favorites. He was not wrong. I love all his suggestions. Thanks Chris! Dishes: Chris expressed that everything was good. He had several favorites in each course. I enjoyed everything I ordered, including the drink. I truly enjoyed the fish taco! I already have a few other dishes I want to try!
