Motel 6 Of Gilman

I’m shocked to see how low this place is rated. It’s certainly not the Ritz Carlton, but compared to other Motel 6s and alternate accommodations in town, this place is a five star stop.
It is by no means the fanciest place on earth, but what do you expect from a Motel 6 where you can stay for under $ 70 a night? All I want is a clean room with a running shower and friendly service and that’s exactly what you get here — plus cable with HBO (on flat screen TVs).
I’ve been staying here for years with family and have never been disappointed. Each room has its own thermostat so you can adjust the heat/​air conditioning as you wish and several places to eat are within walking distance.
Anyone who finds this place to be below average needs to adjust their expectations. You can’t expect much more from a motel.

Terrible motel. Customer service was a joke. The only employe I could find was extremely rude. And the rooms were the most disgusting things I had ever seen. I ended up sleeping in my car. Would never go here again and gave a one star rating because there is no zero star

This was the worst experience I have ever had at motel. After being on the road for nearly 15 hours I just needed to rest for about 4 hours before driving the last 2 hours of my trip home to work the next morning. When I knew it was to dangerous for me to keep going, I figured I would stop for the rest of the night and leave first thing in the morning to arrive at work on time. Unfortunately I stopped at the wrong motel.
at 1:30am I was checked into a room that was as cold inside as it was outside (I could literally see my breath). I turned the on «heater» and put on two sweaters before wrapping myself in the sheet and box shaped bed covering (there was no blanket). after about an hour I was so cold that even my level of exhaustion couldn’t keep me from being awake and uncomfortable. I got up only to find that the «heater» was kicking out cold air.
I called the front desk and she told me about the gimmick required to get heat from the heater. I did this and the heat did come one. After another 30 – 40 minutes the room was still freezing and if I got any sleep it would probably do more harm than good at that point. I went into my car to warm up and then decided that I would just leave.
I called the front desk and told her this and she yelled at me that she wanted to see for herself. She came to my room in boots and a winter jacket, walked in for half a second and yelled «the room is fine»! I said I am not comfortable I just want my money back and I want to leave. She said to come to the office to check out.
This is where I met the other owner. When I slid the key under the glass and said I just want to leave and I want my money back (it had been less than two hours). He shoved they key back at me and shouted «no refund»! I will admit that at this point I lost it, I yelled back and said «are you $^&*ing kidding me! He shouted back at me to get out and that he was going to call the police (obviously a small young women all by herself travelling in the middle of the night is pretty intimidating). I said that this is no way to treat people and I left.
I did call the next morning to apologize for yelling because it was out of character for me and I do not think that it is appropriate. The circumstances were, however, pretty sever. I ended up driving the two hours home at 3:30am and not being able to make it into work the next day.
Neither this specific establishment nor the Motel 6 corporate have refunded me.
Do yourself a favor and stay at another cheap motel. If you have the misfortune of having a problem at a Motel 6, you are on your own.

Good cheap room, recently renovated, clean, flatscreen tv, good channels.

I was pleasantly surprised by this motel 6. Their renovations resulted in a wise decision to eliminate unnecessary fabric which quickly gets dingy and filthy. the floor was clean linoleum and the sofa/​chair vinyl and plastic. These surfaces are easily cleaned and looked so. It was very basic and simple but comfortable.
The night before I stayed in a Super 8 in Champaign IL. Bare feet on the carpet felt gross. I was relieved when we saw our motel 6 room. I think that the number one reason people avoid cheap motels is due to cleanliness issues. That was not a problem at this motel 6. Very inexpensive too.
