As a OTR truck driver I am always in search of good food at good diners. This place was absolutely unbelievable. Great food good service and very fair pricing. I was able to get the cowboy burger a cup of chili, french fries a drink and a dessert of bread pudding for $ 13. I went in on a Wednesday night in the place was jampacked. The only place to sit was at a stool at the bar. And it wasn’t just truckers in there all of the locals were there as well. Absolutely wonderful time and I will make sure that I stop by here more often now that I know it’s there.

This was a great to stop and eat. Salt of earth and good quality home cooked food. Special thanks to Joann who was wonderful and frankly very interested in our dining experience. Its clear that everyone in town knows her because almost everyone eating knew her. Cant say enough good things. We had salads on Chef’s and the other Chicken with fruit. Both excellent! Alot of people were ordering chicken fried steak with Onion rings that looked great. Give this please a try the next time you pass by on 57.

I had the turkey n dressing Sunday special, which was very good. Hubby had the fried chicken which was dried out & old tasting. A server was sweeping the floor while we were eating! I said something to her about it, and her body language said it all… Look, cupcake… People don’t like dust flying around in their food, OK??!

After reading some of the previous reviews, we decided to have breakfast at K&H this past Sunday. I was impressed by the quality and price. There are a lot of truck stop restaurants across the country that I have stopped at, and this one is in the top five! I ordered from the«cheap» menu and got biscuits with sausage gravy and two eggs. Add on some coffee and my bill was around $ 5.50. I was full and felt it was a good value. Their sausage gravy has got to be made by them. I’ve never had any like it before. It was different, but VERYGOOD! My partner ordered a bigger breakfast including two eggs, hash browns, chicken-fried steak with white gravy, four slices of toast and his was around $ 7.00. Another great value. The service staff is friendly, polite, attractive and attentive but not at all obtrusive. Drink refills are handled by ESP.(they were there before I could ask – LOL) If you’re looking for high-end, trendy food look somewhere else. This is a truck stop diner and they have all of the yummy selections that you would expect in that genre. Sure there are some healthy options, but come on, that’s not why I seek these places out. After reading previous reviews, I did expect a bit more from the«bakery». I thought there would be a lot more selections. But what they do have is all very good. Pies, sticky buns(downright evil), cookies, etc. The donuts looked like the same that you would find at your local grocery. But oh, the sticky buns. So good that I think they might have crack in them. They are big and YOUWILLWANTMORETHANONE! The last time we were traveling through Gilman we had stopped at McD’s to grab a quick breakfast. We knew what to expect and what we would spend. But now that I know there’s a much better meal at a better price at K&H, McD’s is a distant memory.

This is a great independent owned truck stop. After a busy morning working i was able to have a great lunch here. I got the 3 piece chicken dinner with 2 sides and bread for $ 7.95– this was delicious and the chicken was excellent. the town of Gilman and central Illinois have a great place to eat here.

Drive across the railroad tracks to the BP truck plaza and a real gem the locals love! We ate lunch there on the way up to Chicago and dinner on the way back the next day. Beer-battered fish and the Reuben were awesome! Great service and friendly folk. We avoid chain restaurants and we enjoyed K&H very much.

First of all, I don’t care what you’re eating for dinner, lunch or breakfast or what kind of diet you’re on, get a piece of pie at the end of your meal. I’d highly recommend either cherry or the coconut cream. Both were amazing. I know I’ve said it 100 times and I’ll say it again, I LOVE truck-stop diners. There is just something so wonderful about being able to fuel, shower, stock up on supplies and grab a good meal. They were having a special on homemade fried chicken on the Sunday that we ate there. Three pieces plus your choice of potato, soup and a vegetable medley for 7.29 $. I decided to go with the mashed potatoes, and vegetable beef soup. Everything was delicious. I especially loved the crispy skin on the chicken and the tasty, piping hot vegetable beef soup. My husband on the other hand decided to go with the Reuben with his choice of soup. He opted for the chicken Alfredo soup. He loved the Reuben. It was chock full of meat and the soup was so obviously homemade with wonderful flavor. It was so much food that he had to take it «to-go». Service was spot-on and when I asked for a to-go menu, they were all out so our waitress went and scanned me a new one. I can’t wait to come back. There were so many more pie options! :-)
