The Farnsworth House is a bit more commercial that other B&B’s in town. We never did meet the owners since they have a full staff for check-in and the restaurant. We stayed in the Jennie Wade room which had very eclectic décor. This room is one of the garden rooms and we found out after the fact that there is not much paranormal activity in these rooms. Most of the activity occurs in the main house. Breakfast was very good. We were given a choice of waffles or eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast. We opted for the eggs… a perfect breakfast. Comfortable room and good food. The only drawback is the bathroom which has a very small stall shower.

Came for the outdoor patio & some beers. The live music Nick Andrew Staver was great!

Meh. Pot pie with over cooked noodles, salad with poor quality cold cuts. No clear way to get a table(no hostess stand out front). With a venue like this they are missing out on being a destination’ in favor of selling out this great building for easy tourist traffic.

I gave an extra star because the Sweeney House(the building in which Farnsworth is located) has an interesting history. Beyond that, we were extremely disappointed. We couldn’t get into the Meade Dining Room, so we had to eat downstairs in the tavern. The tavern was dark, loud, cramped, and we were seated in a corner behind the bar where we couldn’t see any of the Civil War«artifacts» on display… which turned out to just be props from the movie«Gettysburg.» The food was mediocre at best, ridiculously overpriced, and the portions are miniscule. Our waitress brought us the wrong plates(she couldn’t tell the difference between bangers and mash, a roast beef sandwich, and a pork tenderloin) and forgot half of our children’s meals. Maybe eating in the dining room is a better experience, but make reservations ahead of time!

Our party of 8 enjoyed a delicious homemade breakfast this morning in this beautiful house. The most enjoyable aspect was Kayla, the server. Kayla is so hospitable, friendly and entertaining. She took great care of us!

As a fan of Civil War History and of ghost stories, the Farnsworth House is top notch. Their commitment to preserving the house provides a very quaint, comforting and authentic atmosphere. I had good fortune of staying in the Sarah Black Room in winter and was one of two people in the entire house for the night. I expected a slight drop off in service for the winter months compared to the tourist season and found this was not the case. The house staff were very hospitable and courteous in dealing with my reservation process as well as giving a tour when I arrived. They even made sure I was comfortable before leaving for the night. The breakfast the next morning was just what I expected and I have no complaints. The other«residents» of the house were curious and friendly too as they made their presence known on a few occasions. The Sarah Black room certainly backs up its haunted reputation! I can’t speak much to the tavern but the Bed and breakfast aspect of the house is definitely worth the stay!

Sweeney’s Tavern– Unfriendly and extremely unenthusiastic bar«service». Main Dining Room– Dinner was okay. Service was friendly and mostly efficient. Enjoyed trying a few new items like pickled watermelon and a couple interesting breads. Crab cakes were nothing special. Bed and Breakfast– It’s a very old inn. The rooms are small and not very well appointed, and certainly not plush. If you are going there to hang out in your room and watch television, you will be disappointed in the tiny set that is provided. There is no wi-fi either. Take in the history and enjoy that aspect. Breakfast was included with our room and was served in the main dining room. The server was friendly, but made some gross egg jokes just before some of us consumed the eggs. :/ I see no reason to return.

This is specifically a review regarding the Tavern portion located at the back of the inn. We walked in and stood at the bar for 10 minutes without being acknowledged. The bartender made no effort to let us know she would be with us shortly. It was not busy enough to be ignored for that long. We ultimately walked out without being served. Wouldn’t go back.

I went there in December during our first trip to Gettysburg. The building itself is a really cool old house from Civil War days. There are even 150 remains of bullet holes in the outside brick wall. They have a charming outside courtyard with a bar and fire pit. Inside was what you’d expect from a 150 year old house… high ceilings, dark, quaint. It was so overly decorated for Christmas when we went it was borderline creepy! Hundreds of santas everywhere you looked. Exactly what you would imagine a house from this era would be. The menu was less than exciting, but we were there on a recommendation to try the chicken(?) duck, and venison pie. My husband and adult son both got that, and I, not quite as adventurous got the chicken pot pie. We were all equally unimpressed. Edible, though nothing to write home about. Cute place to visit for the«Gettysburg Experience«. But definitely don’t go for the food!

Did Lee eat here? Is this why he got sick? If so then 4 stars for historical accuracy. The service was OK, but the food was so terrible my dog could have cooked better. Drinks were watered down(beer and a mixed drink). A real shame someone who takes pride in what they do isn’t in there cooking. The food is bland and unoriginal. The spoon bread was ok on top and all unmixed and powdery on the bottom. Everything was just disappointing for what could have been such an historical experience.

The entire meal was craptacular! My wife’s glass of wine tasted watered down. My sons pulled pork was tasteless He poured the barbecue sauce that came with it on the sandwich to give it some Flavor. When he took a bite he made a face like he just swallowed a bug. I got the fish and chips. Four pieces just slightly larger then my finger. My wife tried ordering a club soda. The waitress looked at her like she had a horn growing out of her forehead. After my wife used ever way she knew to describe a club soda she finally got it. My wife’s sandwich looked like something you would get at a high school cafeteria, just not as good. All in all looks like a nice place to sit outside and have a beer but don’t eat there.

Beer garden booth attendant is kinda rude. Drink she made tasted like gasoline. Then she lit the fire with literal gasoline. Drinks AND a show here In Gettysburg!

A disappointing evening from start to finish. Walked in to no hostess at the hostess stand, waited around for several minutes. Didn’t see anyone walking around the tables either in the weirdly quiet dining room, and yet didn’t give in to all these hints to turn around, walk out the door, and never ever come back. So we waited, and waited, and finally after a few minutes found a waitress who cleared off a table for us to sit at(mind you, we did have a reservation, but most empty tables hadn’t been cleared out because the waitresses/hostess/busboys were all one in the same). Finally sat down, ordered everything all at once. Waited and waited for our drinks, though they did come(the Gettysburg Tears wine is sugarey crap, the tears must come from how awful it is). Got our«pickled watermelon», which really meant watermelon in syrup, nothing pickled there — sugarey crap. Got our spoonbread, very mushy and also sweet. They really like sugar in this place! I got the game pie, hoping it would redeem things since reviews talked it up. It was decent, but I really don’t think there was any game in there besides turkey. So okay, fine but not stellar. Once again ending up waiting and waiting and waiting to pay for the meal, maybe a whole 30 minutes after we were done. Waiting seemed to be the theme of the night. I’m hoping this was an off night and that someone had called in sick because the service was just so bad that I want to hope for their sake there was a good reason for it. Either way, I’m going to be harsh because it was our anniversary and we were hoping for much better than what we got.

Delicious food and outstanding service in the restaurant. They should separate their reviews from the joined tavern as it drags their ratings down. The spoon bread and pumpkin fritters are a must. I had the smoked ham with cranberry chutney and it was cooked just right and very tasty. Our favorite restaurant in Gettysburg.

A real cute historic place to eat. If you are visiting Gettysburg, you might as well go all out and get period accurate food and costumed servers. The meal comes with pickled watermelon rinds. You may be thinking«well that sounds terrible.» And it is. It’s a hard taste to describe. In many ways, you begin to understand that people ate what was available – good taste or not. Interesting to try though. The Jennie Wade bread and spoon bread were both great. I had the game pie as it is their specialty, and it was definitely better than a regular pot pie and something new for me to try. It was smoking so I had to wait to take bites. The pumpkin fritters were also a nice seasonal touch and like hushpuppies that tasted like fall. The service was attentive and they played Civil War era music. It was a very pleasant experience. If you are interested in it, make sure you make a reservation. I don’t know if they do walk ins but it got pretty crowded and luckily we were seated right away. We wanted a 5 pm appointment and earliest was 6:30 so try to plan ahead if you want to come by.

The only reason I am giving three stars is because the service was horrid and atmosphere could be improved a bit. I had the Irish sausage and mash potatoes. It was fabulous. My aunts had the fish and chips and soup. Very good on both accounts. The outside seating was great but like I said from the host to the server and the fact there is only one bathroom for the entire place made this spot a tad less desirable.

Few buddies and I went to the tavern in the back of the building. Was told the wait for us was 20 minutes and we ended up waiting for 45 minutes while groups went ahead. Complete disorganization by the hostess running the queue. Got the wings as an appetizer and we enjoyed them although the server didn’t give us plates or silverware until we were able to track her down. I ordered the cheeseburger and I was very disappointed. This is something I could have made in my backyard. The meat was dry and very small. Chips that came with it tasted like store brand. Friends got pulled pork sandwiches and were also disappointed by how bland it tasted. Only after plenty of salt and pepper were they able to stomach them. I would not suggest this place. This place prides itself on its Gettysburg memorabilia and that’s all that it should pride itself on.

The placemats on the table talk about the historic heritage of the tavern, and that it’s been featured on a lot of different networks. Well, the historic element of the place is about the only appealing thing about it. Don’t come hungry. We waited almost an hour for simple pub food. And for that wait, the food was extremely pedestrian. The fish in the fish & chips seemed like they were from Mrs. Paul’s private reserve(not a compliment). The pulled pork was lukewarm. The waiter didn’t provide any reason or apologies for the wait(until the end when it was time for us to pay and decide what his tip would be). If you need a drink and that’s it, then you’re fine. The people at the bar got their drinks in a timely manner. But we definitely won’t be coming back if we’re in Gettysburg again.

A group of us had lunch here and aside from a nice atmosphere there isn’t much to rave about. The food is acceptable but portions are small and overpriced. 3 of us had the half soup and half sandwich combo. Their potato soup was delicious but I was still hungry after the meal. The chef salad is tasty but again it’s tiny and expensive. Good thing there is an ice cream place across the street to fill us up. If you can get past the small portion sizes, this place is reasonable as a lunch but it’s not my cup of tea and would prefer to try somewhere else next time.

Went here as part of our Ghost tour and they highly recommended that we eat here. The wait staff is dressed like they would be during the Civil War times and so is the décor in the restaurant. It may be touristy but it was a nice spot to have dinner. I went with the PA Dutch Chicken Pot Pie. This was delicious, I have never had noodles in my pot pie but with potatoes and the tender chicken I was in heaven. The waitress suggested that I order the pumpkin fritters as one of my sides. I am glad she suggested this as well because they were fantastic. The spoon bread which comes with every meal was different but good. They also have a beer garden which we had a few libations while watching tours and tourists go by. If your in the area stop here for dinner and a ghost tour. I am sure glad we did.
