Gettysburg Emporium

I had many dresses and hats that I couldn’t wear anymore. I finally found this place that would take my dresses and hats on consignment. I was thrilled. This was in June 2015. To date, I received $ 245.00. She still owes me over $ 1,000. I have called repeatedly and have either been ignored, or put off. This money has been owed me since October. Unfortunately, I am going to have to take legal matters regarding this. BEWARE LADIES. If you live there you can stay on top of you clothes, but if you’re from out of town (3 & ½ hrs), I can’t stay on top, other than phone calls. 1÷23÷2016.

Eileen really knows her stuff! Not only will she custom create a beautiful dress, but she will teach you the proper technique for getting around in it! Gettysburg Emporium had a fantastic selection of gowns, day dresses, hats, jewelry, and civilian mens wear! This is a one stop shop for the discerning reenactor.

This is such a wonderful shop! Miss Eileen and Miss Sara patiently answered questions about the attire and we had a lovely conversation about the Civil War and other periods such as the Renaissance and World War II eras. We weren’t quite ready to jump into purchasing period attire at that first visit. Two weeks later we had an appointment and spent three hours with Miss Eileen discussing fabrics, colors, styles and accessories. My husband was kitted out with civilian gentleman clothing. I had a fitting two weeks later and was able to meet my seamstress — Lynette. It was terrific to chat with the craftswoman who was creating the day dress that Miss Eileen envisioned for me. One week later, I was up and the dress was done! Most amazingly, I wore the dress to a lovely afternoon tea that the Emporium had featuring a visit with Fanny Buhler, the wife of the Gettysburg mayor, and her lady’s maid, who showed us Civil War hairstyles. The Emporium is hosting the teas approximately once a month — May’s guest will be General and Mrs. Lee, The staff is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and works with you. As first time venturers into Civil War attire, Miss Eileen recommended a good economic option noting that if we enjoy it, we can add to the wardrobe as appropriate.
Even more amazing were the visitors who stopped by the store — reenactors in Civil War uniforms (both sides), ladies purchasing their next dress or accessory, and casual browsers who just wandered in on a lovely day in Gettysburg. You can tell Miss Eileen has a lot of repeat customers and that speaks a lot to the quality and service. We highly recommend Gettysburg Emporium if you are looking for period appropriate, one of a kind creations.

My wife and I ventured to Gettysburg in the hope of acquiring a ball gown for an upcoming civil war period ball in Danville, VA. We were discouraged to discover that a number of Gettysburg clothiers were out of business or had a limited selection. Floundering and frustrated, it was our great fortune that a local shopkeeper suggested the Gettysburg Emporium. The owner Eileen, and her seamstress Linda, could not have been more gracious and helpful. My wife tried on several dresses and found one that made her look radiant. Eileen emphasized that she does not make any two dresses the same, and it was evident that her creations are stylishly unique. Eileen and Linda also provided my wife with the perfect accessories, and «spot on» tips about maneuvering in a hoop skirt. We had a terrific shopping experience. We would highly recommend the Gettysburg Emporium for both elegant and affordable period clothing.

This is a cute little store in Gettysburg. The owner was quite nice and helpful. I do wish she carried more in the plus-​girl sizes, because I could have really dented my credit card in there.
It’s all pretty much reproduction and not vintage to the era. However, that is completely understandable!
The clothing, though, was beautiful and very well made. I wish I could have bought some!
