This review will go over 3 areas. Ambiance, service and food. Ambiance was romantic and rustic and we really enjoyed where we sat. Over looking the hot springs and the open field behind the property. Service was very much less to be desired. Our waitress was inattentive to our needs, except the first glass of wine we had to continue to pour our own wine, water glasses was empty from after salad until after our second course was finished, I would have loved some coffee with dessert but was never offered. Food… I had the broccoli and cheese soup. Soup was warm but not hot at all but great flavor. Second course I had the salmon with roasted vegetables and corn and black bean succotash. My meal was very tasty although the corn and black bean succotash could have been cooked longer. Dessert I had the baklava and was the most delicious baklava I have ever had. My boyfriend had a summer salad and was very good. Second course he had the baseball cap sirloin with garlic mashed potatoes with roasted vegetables. Steak was cooked perfect but was a little bland, with the waitress not informing us as to the vegetable of the day He received zucchini and squash and He doesn’t like those so he didn’t eat it. Dessert he had the tiramisu with Kailua whip cream and he said it was delicious. We also ordered a bottle of Chilean wine and that was amazing.

We didn’t have high expectations since we bought the groupon dip&dine special(excellent value!), but we were blown away on our first trip here! Service was fantastic and the views amazing. Large windows overlook the grassy pasture and majestic mountains. Our server laughed that the large picture windows sometimes seemed like Animal Planet TV as you watch the natural wildlife undisturbed. The food was outstanding– fresh, creative combinations. The soup of the day was delicious black bean and tri-tip. The rib eye was tender and lovely. We even received complimentary after dinner coffee cocktails! Our server was nice enough to give them to us in to go cups so we could enjoy the fire pits and comfy seats outside. Great experience!

The husband and I decided it had been too long since we had splurged on a nice dinner so we found ourselves at Walley’s. The wait was 30 mins so we grabbed an appetizer and a couple drinks in the bar while we waited. The bar was nice and the waitress was even willing to change what game was on for us. Soon we were seated for dinner and ordered off of the Prix fixe menu. In addition to our salads and blue cheese crusted top sirloin we ordered the cheesecake that was on special. Sadly, the last piece was served before we were ready for dessert. The waiter broke the sad news with a delicious glass of wine on the house And upgraded my dessert for free! What?! Everything was wonderful, delicious, and exactly what we wanted. We will be back soon for sure!

We went to David Walley’s for their Mother’s Day Brunch. It was a buffet, The selection of food was absolutely incredible. Everything my wife and I had was very good. To get to the buffet you had to visit two rooms one being the hallway between the bar and the entrance which became very congested and difficult to navigate with a plate of food in your hand. Our table was adjacent to a window with a great view of the Carson Valley and people enjoying the adjacent hot springs pools. Waitress was very nice but very busy. Two buffet breakfast and a drink each came to $ 104 plus tip.

I haven’t been here in the winter very often, cause we mostly come in the summer and spring to sit outside and enjoy the outdoor dining area. But this time, we’re here for Valentine’s Day dinner. My BF made the arrangements, as it was his turn this year. Wally’s 1862 Restaurant had a special Valentine’s Day menu where the pre fixe menu prices depended on what main entrée you picked. That really makes sense as opposed to just on price and 3 or 4 entrée choices. Why pay rack of lamb prices for a chicken dish? Here you pay according to what you order. We arrive and this is one of the few times I’ve gotten to get all slinked out dressy for Wally’s and dine in the main dining room. We got a nice seat in the upper dining area. This wasn’t a window seat, but since it was dark outside, that didn’t matter. The service here is so cordial and professional, none of that rehearsed verbiage like you get at up selling chain restaurants. You can tell the difference with a real professional server. The interior here at night is so romantic! Looking over the menu, for main entrees you had 4 choices ranging from chicken breast topped with crab($ 45) to a Surf and Turf option($ 65). We both opted for the 12 oz. Prime Rib($ 55), as the fish dish didn’t excite us much. My BF ordered a bottle of champagne to start. Our first course we had a choice of appetizers of pork belly and smoked salmon carpaccio. We got one of each since there were 2 of us. The pork belly was sweet and spicy at the same time and served with smoky bacon polenta. The carpaccio was quite nice and delicate served with little toasts to eat with the smoked salmon spread with mustard and cream cheese. Next was the salad course, a spinach salad topped with feta cheese, cucumber and red onion, dressed in a vinergrette. The soup choice was a won ton soup, strange for a Valentine dinner, we passed. The salad was quite nice. The third course was our main entrees of Prime Rib, served with mashed potatoes and veggies. The cut was a good decent size and cooked as ordered medium from edge to edge. The meat quality was above your average normal prime rib, tender and good flavor throughout. I really liked the edge section that goes around the eye. There were no big gobs of fat either, like some roasts have. We both like our entrees. The last course was dessert. It was billed as a Chocolate Trio Plate, including a blueberry chocolate cream puff, Chocolate Truffle, and a Chocolate Dipped Strawberry. Coffee was served with dessert as well(Starbucks) … in real cups .no paper cups! Kidding on the paper cups folks! The dessert was beautiful and tasty as well. We fed each other the strawberries! No pics as requested by my BF, as it would break up the romantic event … wait, don’t eat yet, lemme turn the plate a little… OK just one more … no just one more… lemme change the settings first … OK you can eat now! So, no pics … :) The whole event went well and the food was very tasty and most of all a short drive. Not like flying on a private plane to Napa and having dinner at the Champagnery and flying back that night … this was a fine low key Valentine’s Day. The food and service especially is 5 star. Check out this place for their regular dinners and bar menu for outdoor dining by the fire pit!

Great atmosphere and food was amazing! The service was on point and I felt very taken care of during the meal. I recommend the bleu cheese crusted sirloin. It melts in your mouth! We checked out the hot springs after dinner and it was the perfect way to end the evening.

I was expecting quality food and was not disappointed. We share the onion soup that should have been hotter. It had very good flavor. The cob salad was very good done with cold, fresh romaine and plenty of standard other ingredients including 2 pieces of bacon when we asked bacon on the side. I had the Thai duck breast that had a somewhat spicy sauce. Excellent, with a generous serving. My wife was given a group of properly prepared vegetable plates at her request. Service was also excellent.

We received a package deal over the phone. I read another reviewer saying how they were brought in that way too. You agree to a 90 minute sales pitch of their timeshare, and you must make at least 40g a year. When you call to reserve a room, you’re given options of other hotels, but not the David walleys. So strange… Of course it’s your choice if you’d like to purchase a timeshare or not. They take you to the room you would be staying at. The rooms come with a fireplace, robes, and a pretty awesome view. They also offer smart houses. The resort was really nice from what I had seen.

This review is for the Saloon Only. Gayle’s Mom lives in Genoa and we’re up here regularly to visit. On a Friday or Saturday evening, we find ourselves at the bar listening to music over drinks and an occasional order of chicken wings. It’s all very enjoyable and low key. Service is consistently good, the music is enjoyable, and the local clientele is interesting to engage with and watch. There are entertainment alternatives within Carson City, Minden, and Gardnerville. At the same time, the David Walley’s lounge is our favourite low key couples date night choice.

So, we came here the first night we arrived and just had beer and shared some appetizers at the bar. It was all yummy… the garlic pancetta flatbread, french onion soup, and calamari. Great beer selection and the wait staff was nice. Then we decided to eat here for a meal… mistake. They overcooked my steak — really, they burnt it. It was supposed to be encrusted however it was charred. I ordered medium and I got well done. Then there was the potatoes that tasted like they came from a powder. Now, I am not totally against powder potatoes except when they taste like a powder and I pay that kind of money for a meal. Lastly, the bread pudding was not that great but after a charred steak and powder potatoes, it was the highlight of my meal.

Surprisingly good for being in a resort, the bar is a little odd as the bartender is standing below those seated at the bar, Love Dave Wallys across the board.

Our recent dining experience was excellent in every way from checking in to the last sip of coffee. We couldn’t ask for a better server, she was excellent and her timing was spot on. The calamari appetizer were glorious little morsels that just melted in our mouth. I highly recommend ordering this app when you dine here. Our main meal was the Spicy Thai Duck Breast and my partner had the Filet Mignon. Both cuts of meat were cooked and seared perfectly, full of flavor and juicy. As full as we were, we ended the meal with Tiramisu and Bread pudding which were equally delicious and thankfully a little on the smaller side. Dinner starts at five and we recommend making reservations. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed with dark tones and moderately low lighting(which we appreciate). Our dining experience was worth the travel and we will be back again.

We came here during the winter to try out their hot spring. After spending the night exploring the place and enjoyed dinner at the saloon, which was pretty good, we were super ready to explore some more and enjoy the hot spring in the morning! Unfortunately, we did not have the chance to try it out due to some minor accident, a rabbit got into our engine and bite one of our wires. The staff there was very friendly and helpful, they helped us find out the problem and got help for us. And they even refunded us the night we were not able to stay because our car had to be towed to Reno due to steering problem(the booking was two night minimum, and we only stayed one night). We will definitely come back to try out their hot spring during the winter again! It’s a very nice and relaxing place. But prepare to bring your own food if you don’t want to spend too much eating at the saloon tho!

We’ve been to 1962 Restaurant & Saloon several times as part of Living Social or Groupon packages, and have always had beautiful meals & attentive service. It’s a great place for a special dinner that feels like a romantic getaway! The Saloon Happy Hour was great, too… creative craft cocktails and amazing appetizers! The Roasted Pork Belly was sooooo good! Treat yourself to some stellar food and drinks after working up an appetite soaking & lounging poolside, you’ll be glad you did! Reservations are recommended, and casual dress is fine.

I was kinda hoping for a different menu since I was in here last September. But the menu and food was great then as it was tonight. Wally’s is about a 45 minute drive for us, but put dinner with an afternoon at the adjoining mineral springs and it makes for a great date day. Service has always been first rate. Do make reservations because it can fill up fast after 6:30. The wine list seems affordable compared to some other spots I have been too lately. Nice variety on the menu, but we keep going with the three course prix fixe for $ 45. Ask for a table down by the windows and enjoy a beautiful view of the wildlife and rushes, a little more towards to springs and there is a great fire pit.

While the resort itself is about as desirable as a three star freeway hotel, its restaurant gives the place some value. The food was delicious, with a fantastic soup of the day and perfectly cooked bison. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful, offering their genuine opinions of wine and food pairings. Desserts were simple but delightful. In total a lovely experience. If the resort were any better, I would certainly return for the food.

This is a great place except today. I know it was the playoffs for the end of the football season, but it is a «bar» and with a bar yes, you have TV’s. The service was good, but people, leave the kids outside… There must have been four families, with about 4 kids each, watching the games, and the kids were really really loud. This is the only thing that ruined my experience. If not kids, go… If kids present, pass and go down the road to the next establishment.

The food was filling, artful, and delicious. I’ve been here before(2 years ago) and had the same waitress, so it’s nice to see that the turnover in staff isn’t too high. The menu is brief and to the point, which is something that I prefer(3 entrees to choose from). We had to leave before the end of the meal, because of an emergency, but the staff remained polite and accommodating. Highlights of the meal: salmon, french onion soup, and brocolinni. Make a reservation, or the wait is long. They don’t have a lot of tables in the restaurant. If you don’t want a formal and expensive dining experience, there is a bar that serves food in the same building. Another great option after soaking in the hot springs.

I really think this bar and restaurant is awesome! The service is fast, and efficient. Very large wine list was available. Full bar, and lots of beer choices. Live music was being played. I was worried because the space was on the smaller side, but it was not too loud. :)
