Interestingly good food. I like their skirt steak salad and burgers

Very very slow!!! Server was apologetic and gave a free dessert. I had the burger which was pretty good. My kid had the alfredo and wasn’t too fond of it. I would avoid if it looks busy. We got a table right away but waited over an hour for food.

My uncle wanted to take our party of six to this place because it’s one of my recently deceased aunt’s favorite restaurants. He was a bit disappointed when we walked in because the place has been redesigned since his last visit. He was more disappointed when he looked at the menu and found out that the menu items have changed as well. We just made the best of the evening and ordered on. All the appetizers we ordered were excellent. The deep fried cheese curds($ 3.50) was extremely addicting. The tomato, chorizo, and mozzarella flatbread($ 11) was yummy. The lamb meatballs and tomato chutney($ 4) was good as well. The entrees, on the other hand, were a hit or miss. I shared the NY Steak and Fries($ 32) with my mom. I would have preferred medium rare, but my mom wanted medium well, so we went with her preference. Unfortunately, the steak was overcooked. I liked the fries though. I also shared fettucini($ 13) with chicken($ 4) with my aunt. It was cooked with butternut squash, kale, and sage in alfredo sauce. I found it too sweet while my aunt loved it. My other aunt ordered pan seared scallops with creamy couscous, bacon, and sage($ 21) which she liked a lot(but might have caused her stomach upset later in the evening!). My cousin and uncle shared the evening’s special but I think they found the sauce to be a bit too much. Overall, I am still a fan. I think it’s a great place for drinks and appetizers. I wouldn’t mind coming back during happy hour.

YUM!!! It is all about the bread pudding. We ordered one to share. My teenage daughter took one look at it and said, «we are going to need some more!» As we were leaving she was still trying to convince us to order more. We had the tri trip sandwich, baked Brie and apple sandwich, chorizo flatbread, caramel whiskey gingerbread, and cranberry spinach salad. All were delish.

My hubby and I, along with a few friends, were recently on a staycation at Genoa for my birthday. Upon the recommendation of an esteemed friend(that’s you, Michael T.), we came to Overland for my birthday dinner. I’ve had a few birthday dinners this month alone, but this one was definitely the best so far. We heard the place was newly renovated, and under new management. Although we haven’t seen nor experienced either before, we’re happy to find the place clean, spacious and buzzing with patrons. We had reservations so we got seated right away. Our server, Jabob, was very engaging and was patient enough to answer our questions. That is saying something, because our group had a bunch of questions. My friends are quite the wine enthusiasts and so we brought our own wine(2 bottles). Overland immediately scored major points with us when they waived the corkage fee. Yay, for small concessions. Since this is our first time here, we relied heavily on recommendations(word of mouth — from the sommelier across the street), and Unilocal, but of course. The 2 most highly recommended appetizers are the deep fried cheese curds and the lamb meatballs. Both are amazing. The cheese curds are bite-sized and with just the right amount of saltiness. It’s one of those things you can’t stop popping into your mouth, if you don’t pay attention. We order 2 of those and at first we thought it would be too much, but the next thing we knew, we ate every last bit of it. The lamb meatball was so tasty, very well-seasoned, and not overpowering. The chutney sauce had the right amount of kick and spiciness. We didn’t have any problem polishing 2 servings of those either. Oh and I shouldn’t forget the curried pumpkin soup. It was also very good and the perfect balance of curry and pumpkin, so much so that some of us claimed we could taste the pumpkin more, and yet others said they could taste the curry more. For dinner, we ordered pan-seared scallops with creamy couscous, the marinated skirt steak with spaghetti squash, braised boar shank, and grilled chicken breast. The star of the night was the scallops. Perfectly cooked. And so fresh. It actually had taste. The couscous was so creamy it could probably pass as dessert. The braised boar shank was also spectacular. It was so tender and fell right off the bone. Very tasty. My hubby would’ve probably licked the plate clean had we not been in public. The skirt steak was good, but i thought the mushroom demi-glacé overpowered it. The spaghetti squash were buried in there somewhere and clumped together. Not very appetizing to look at. The grilled chicken was well-seasoned and moist. However, the root vegetables it came with were slightly undercooked. For dessert, we opted for the white chocolate bread pudding. I’ve had this in the Old Granite Street in Reno, and I was so excited to see it featured in the menu. I loved it. Not too sweet, and the bread pudding was not soggy. I ate the whole thing, with very little help from others. It’s MY birthday after all. Jacob even served it with a couple of candles on it. I thought that was sweet of him to indulge us. Needless to say, we are very happy with the service here, and would be back whenever we are in this area.

I obviously had high hopes considering all of the 5 reviews. Sadly there is a cruel use of high-praise here(endemic at Unilocal?) and I am compelled to share a thought or two. The system only works if it is used properly and with respect. 1 should mean, whatever it is, revolted you and 5 should be on par with an orgasm, the really really good kind! I think those 5 ratings say a lot more about the people writing them than the product being rated. So my 2 is basically a rating of «edible», one notch below ‘good’. The quality was the same as McDonalds just 4X the price and without the beer I most likely woulda gotten one less from me.

A wonderful place of food and company. Our waiter, Jacob, was very friendly and conversant. The lamb meatballs with sweet baby roasted tomatoes as an appetizer was yum-o. The pumpkin curry soup was creamy and warmed my heart. My scallops with creamy couscous and sage was heavenly. The scallops were superb. The Bordeaux and barbera wines we had were also not too shabby. But, we brought our own wine.

Overland happily hosted our large party of 50 Nevada Alumni members on a busy Friday evening. They set up two long tables to accommodate our group and showed extra love and care all night while serving us. I love their new renovation. I was never able to see the«before», but their«after» is quite spectacular. Their restaurant is adorned with pieces by the super talented local artist, Jaxon Northon, and their bar area is very large and inviting. They offered a wide variety of cocktails and their happy hour menu looked very promising. We were given a choice of fettuccini alfredo, grilled chicken breast, or braised boar shank. Both meat selections were very juicy and flavorful, and the alfredo was a creamy mix of noodles, yummy kale, and butternut squash. An absolute must is their deep fried cheese curd appetizer. They delivered a large bowl to our table and it was devoured within minutes. I can’t wait to visit them again to explore the rest of the menu. Thank you Overland for your hospitality and delicious dinner!

4.5 Stars I decided to try several of their sides tonight. I got the curried pumpkin soup, cheese curds, lamb meatballs, pumpkin arancini, brie flatbread and white chocolate bread pudding. They were all either a good portion or Huge portion size(no complaints here) and it only cost me $ 33. For the amount of food I received that was a great price. All were enjoyable and I would recommend all of them. My only complaint is that I did not order the Brie flatbread, I ordered the chorizo and mozzarella flatbread, but I received the Brie one. Next time I will be trying their entrees. So far I really enjoy this place and would recommend it.

We had the lamb meatball appetizer and each had a flatiron steak salad per the recommendation of Jacob, or server. Lamb meatballs were VERY tasty! The steak on the salad was perfectly cooked medium rare. The chimichurri sauce on the steak was perfect — for the steak and the greens. No other dressing was needed. Between the steak and greens were grilled sweet pepper and onions that had been veiled then chilled. Perfect. Decent beer selection — avoid the Icky IPA and order whatever they have from Mammoth Brewing.

A friend and I decided to have a large lunch and sample as many items on the menu as we could! This included the intriguing grilled strawberry, avocado, mozzarella, and balsamic vinegar sandwich, the bison burger, the lamb meatball appetizer, and the try-tip bruschetta. While I waited for the food to arrive, I enjoyed a pint of the Mammoth Brewing Double Nut Brown Porter on draught. The service has always been good on my prior visits, and today was no exception. We were seated quickly and water glasses and bar drink orders were taken without any pauses for two hungry and thirsty travelers. Once the plates began arriving, we divvied the for up so that we both could sample each dish. The bison burger was cooked medium to perfection. The bun was warm and grilled, not cold and hard… something that I appreciate a lot. The bun definitely added t the burger and was not«just there.» The grilled strawberry, avocado, mozzarella, and balsamic vinegar sandwich was both sweet and savory in the best possible way. The flavors complemented each other in a very pleasing manner. Where once I was dubious, I now became a fan. Iknow that I could confidently order this sandwich when hungry and be assured that my hunger would be satisfied. The lamb meatballs came 2 for appetizer order. If you love the taste of lamb, you will enjoy these. They were perfectly cooked and served with grilled caramelized onions. My, my… absolutely delicious. The weakest items served was the tr-tip bruschetta. It wasn’t bad, but It was not the knock ‘em outta the park” gastronomic experience that the other dishes were. The kitchen staff at this restaurant is really hitting their stride with the menu. I heard that mid-October, they will switch from the summer menu to the winter on. I wonder what changes that will bring?

Can I just live here? Talk about a renovation done right! When I lived here no one talked about The Overland it was just a building that I honestly thought was going to be demoed. They turned this place into something so special! This is exactly what this town needed and I am so glad we got to experience it while we were visiting! I had the Linguine with peas and Spinach and it was to die for! My only complaint is that my peas were very crunchy and almost inedible. But that’s how I know my experience as a whole and my pasta was so good because the bad peas didn’t even phase me. I was so incredibly happy and full that nothing else mattered. I cannot wait to visit my family again specifically so I can eat here. And see my family… Of course.

Yes, Gardnerville is a little bit of a jaunt if you live in Reno or Carson City, but the Overland is worth the drive! The Overland has recently re-opened and has undergone(what I’ve been told is) a major renovation. The place is beautiful — there’s awesome little details everywhere, very up-to-date, and there is a lot of space for plenty of diners. There was plenty of open seating and we were encouraged to explore the restaurant and pick any seat in any area that we wanted. They really like showing off their new interior! It’s broken into two basic sections: the restaurant and the bar/pub. The restaurant does lunch and dinner(and brunch on the weekends); the pub does a sort of small plates menu from 3 – 5 pm. Parking is around the back of building, and the main entrance is actually back there too — you don’t have to walk around to the front of the building like we did. Their drink menu includes several local beers from Great Basin, Common Cider, Pigeon Head, and Brasserie Saint James. They also have specialty cocktails and a good selection of spirits to make your own cocktail. The lunch menu has a variety of appetizers, salads, flatbreads, sandwiches, and burgers. Several things caught my eye, but I ultimately decided on the braised chicken sandwich. We also got the artichoke dip and tri tip crostini to share. The artichoke dip was nice and hot and it’s a big enough serving to share with a couple of people. I also appreciated that the bread for dipping wasn’t really hard. The tri tip crostini was pretty good, but could have used a little bit more bleu cheese, especially if that’s one of its selling points. Also note that there are only two crostini. The braised chicken sandwich is topped with house made ranch, bacon, and tomato. What I didn’t realize was that it’s more of a chicken salad sandwich. Not exactly what I was in the mood for and the menu definitely didn’t make that clear. It was ok — it seems the chicken is tossed in their ranch. There was something about the flavor of the ranch that I didn’t really like and something just kept reminding me of fish(so weird). Along with my sandwich, I got the side salad. This is pretty boring — it’s lettuce with a couple of slices of radish and some sort of vinaigrette. Fortunately, there is a really bright side to the food we ordered that day. We were all full enough, but decided to get an order of the white chocolate bread pudding. WOW. This is a huge serving and it is absolutely amazing. I’m really struggling to find words to describe how good this is. How about I just say that what would have been a 3 star review was bumped up to a 4 because of this. I got the feeling like the servers were in a hurry and also trying to hurry you up to get out of there. When taking our second drink order, I hesitated for a moment, my friends order their drinks, and then the waitress left. She could have saved herself a trip if she just asked me again after taking my friends’ orders. Also, we were still snacking on fries after finishing our main meals and three different waitresses tried to take the plate away. And by that I mean actually reaching for the plate instead of asking if we were finished. It was almost a little rude. I think they still have some work to do on service, at least in that aspect. The guys behind Granite Street are helping out with this restaurant, so I’m sure they will only get better with time. I’d be interested in coming back down for lunch(maybe dinner if I’m up for the drive from Reno) and trying out some of their other options.

We came here because we finished fishing by Bridgeport late, and was driving through Minden area back to Reno around 9pm. We were hungry and didnt want to wait till 10pm to eat in Reno. Everything else in town was closed! We found this restaurant on Unilocal as the only place still open, and it was a pleasant surprise! The waiter Jacob(he joked that he looks like the Jacob from Twilight, which is true…) was very friendly and helpful! He recommend the lamb meatballs as appetizer, and it sure was phenomenonAl! We had the sausage platter as dinner because we saw that sausages were local sourced from Carson City. Cocktail wise, my negroli was delicious! We sat at the back patio, which is decorated with string lights, and modern industrial wood-steel look. Really like the whole vibe. We spent about 40 bucks for a really awesome meal, and a wonderful late night experience.

Great place! Ambiance is historical western-ish. Service is prompt. Full bar. Lots of drafts and different cocktails. Menu is simple and easy. Not. Huge selection but what’s offered is fantastic! I ordered the corn chowder. Clean simple and fresh. Every ingredient is local! I had the cheeseburger and finch fries. Hub had the bison burger. He said was good! We will be back! :)

It’s midweek, it’s a new place, it’s got a bit of buzz going on in the community, and there are expectations. We decide to check it out, and so here we go. Remember, it’s a new place. New places struggle a bit as they get their feet under themselves, and the Overland was not an exception when we arrived on day three of their reincarnation. Despite the struggles, this is a fantastic addition to the Gardnerville food scene, and very worthy of your hard earned money. The food we ate was very good. For appetizers our table had the Devilled Eggs, the Fried Cheese Curds, and the Tri-Tip Crostini. How can you go wrong with fried cheese, it went right to my happy place and I smiled, again and again. The Devilled Eggs were on the bland side, and the Tri-Tip didn’t quite have the flavor I was looking for. For dinner people in our group enjoyed the Skirt Steak, the Sausage plate, the Watermelon Salad, and the House Burger. My choice was the burger and I opted into the side salad instead of fries, and I found the dinner tasty and filling. The other folks at the table enjoyed their dinners as well. We had a birthday boy with us, and so we had an order of the bread pudding for the celebration. The entire room joined in the singing, and the birthday boy enjoyed it as well. The service will improve as time goes by, as new restaurants do struggle a bit at the outset. The place looks fantastic. The walls have been re-done, there are big paintings adorning the space, and it appears that they’ve got a classic old school metal roof visible on the ceiling. Another big perk for me is that they are the first, and only, restaurant in Gardnerville that will allow you to make a reservation on Open Table. I love this option. The only quibble and I don’t know if they can fix it, is the noise level. It was crowded and the sounds of the conversations were bouncing off the wall making it difficult to hear the conversation that I was trying to be involved in. Good food gets me every time. Great bar space, a back patio that beckons for a crowd on a warm summer evening, and a ton of potential have me very optimistic about the success of this establishment. This is a great addition in Gardnerville, and I hope people will find their way there to enjoy it.

We stopped in to this fabulous restaurant/pub because the outside of the building was interesting, old, brick, and historical with a patio onto which they welcomed our four legged dining companion with open arms, score 1. Score 2, the inside was every bit as interesting as the outside and the wait staff was on their A game. Service was fast, efficient and friendly. Wait staff quite knowledgeable of menu items and ingredients. Nice… now if the food is as good as the menu suggest, we will have a home run. Take me out to dinner, we do have a home run! Hubs had the bison burger, prepared exactly right, with caramelized onion and Swiss cheese on a fresh bun, perfectly cooked. I had the strawberry, avocado and mozzarella sandwich. Roasted strawberry on a sandwich is fabulous! Large craft beer list and noteworthy gin selection as well as other selections. Great luncheon experience. Run, don’t walk… we will be back.

The overland restaurants and bar just opened up yesterday(June 8th, 2015) and I had lunch there today. This new restaurant was a great place for lunch with great, farm-to-table food, a great staff and a great environment. For those of you who know the Carson valley, this used to be the site of the overland hotel, which was a basque restaurant(and many, many years ago, a hotel) that served family style meals. While the food was typically good and plentiful, the place was very dated, stale, and dark. It reminded me of a pub in London, without the pub vibe or food. With good basque options in town with better ambiance, history, and food, the overland hotel ceased to exist. I was excited to see, after months of construction, what the new place looked like, how the food was and so on. I’m pleased to report that the new Overland Restaurant and Bar is great. Inside, they exposed some of the brick hidden for years behind ugly wood paneling and drywall. The old yellow windows and yellow shades have come down in favor of normal windows. The amount of light in the restaurant now is significantly better. The rest of the décor is nice, with lots of large pictures and maps of the area. The food is no longer basque and is more farm-to-table food, focusing on super fresh ingredients that have been very well handled. I had the cheese burger and, while it was a bit more pink than I expected for a medium burger, it was very good. The bun, cheese and meet were all of very high quality and you could tell. The fries were good, shoestring style fries with what seemed to be a hint of lemon garlic somewhere in here. It was a very enjoyable meal. I heard people raving about the cheese curds and fried chicken, neither of which were had at my table so I can’t testify to those beyond over hearing other people proclaim their greatness. Finally, the staff was all wonderful. It may be because it was day 2, but there almost seemed to be too much staff for the restaurant(lots of training going on I assume). I never needed to ask for water and, despite all the bodies, the staff struck the balance between being helpful and being non-invasive very well. I’d highly recommend giving this place a try. I will be back to try their dinner menu for certain.
