It was only due to a flat tire across the highway that brought us to this location in Garland. While we waited for a tow truck, we decided to check out this location(already quite familiar with the Dallas/Preston location). It did not disappoint! Staff were super friendly. Food was fantastic. Beer was frosty cold. Perfect spot to put a smile on our faces and good food in our bellies on an otherwise inconvenient and unpleasant night.

First time here! Food was fantastic! Sorry couldn’t post photos! I was hungry… Catfish and shrimp were on spot! The gumbo was fabulous!!! Best I’ve had around here since Nawlins! No joke… The price for the food was about standard compared to other fish places in this area… Glad we stopped by to give Flying Fish a try will be back!

There has never been a visit where I’ve been disappointed. I’ve had the catfish and shrimp fillet combo with red beans and rice and salad with Italian dressing. This was very fresh and delicious! I’ve also had the salmon with grilled squash and zucchini and salad w/Italian dressing. Let’s just say this is one place I’m a regular at and I do fulfill my punch card there, so after the 8th visit you get a free meal. If you like a kick in flavor you can make it «snappy». The kids meal comes in a cute paper boat/ship and it has that old school fish in a packet for the prize that you place on your hand to see what the movement of the fish means, along with some cookies. The hushpuppies are delicious and I’ve tried the margaritas too. Definitely a keeper for a great alcoholic drink and some good tasting seafood.

Catfish is OK, no complaints. The service is rude. They give you problems when you try to use the Wylie Highschool discount. We bought a gift card, all they gave us was a receipt, no card. I had no idea they had an actual card, they handed me the gift card receipt in an evelope like that was it. We go to use it months later with my parents, who we gave the gift card. They treat me like a scammer and won’t honor the gift card receipt although the receipt shows no gift card was scanned. They are the scammers. I won’t be back, it’s not THAT great…

Great food. Very Rude service Enjoy eating the fried catfish, hush puppies and grilled salmon snappy plates. Don’t expect service with a smile. The mostly male: servers, cashiers, and manager at N. Garland location are not friendly. My order has been wrong three times so far. Not an easy fix when they have to correct it. Because they will argue and tell you this is what you ordered. Also If your coupon is expired even by 1 day they will not accept it.

Love the shrimp and the breading is delicious. Not too thick and try the fried picked, very yummy.

Food was good… had the tilapia tacos(snappy-spicy). The reason I’m only giving this place 2 stars is strictly because of the service from the lady(Nury) that took our order. She was not helpful when we asked about the menu(our first time here) and actually kinda rude when talking with my wife while ordering and then again when she asked for a to-go cup for our drinks. We will not be back.

We had the protein platter grilled salmon the boy had fried crawfish and Mom has the Talipia salad. It was inhaled and crazy good. Tons on their menu Girl and I split the protein platter good thing it was huge… good thing the boy was along to clean up the small amount of leftover.

I crave the gumbo here! Catfish tacos are amazing. Wednesdays are AYCE catfish although I couldn’t find room for seconds. Friendly staff and charming coastal atmosphere. Like stepping into a Galvestion eatery. We are still working our way through their extensive menu! Whatever I try next, I KNOW there will be gumbo!

Fresh fresh fresh. Usually stop by when family is in town they the food and there’s really nothing else to compare it to. I always get the grilled options which are seasoned well and never over grilled or chewy.

Sometimes, you just need hushpuppies. And catfish. And sweet tea. When you do, you head to Flying Fish. You leave feeling the world is ok. My wife and I visited on a Saturday evening. The line was about 10 folks deep, but moved pretty quickly. We debated menu items, but finally decided to each get the combo basket with 2 catfish filets, 4 butterfly shrimp, fries, and hushpuppies. We also ordered an extra basket of hushpuppies and a dish of cole slaw to split. Sweet teas completed the order. $ 38 dollars later we were sitting at our table waiting for the food. I actually appreciate the blinky-vibratey disk they handed me to let me know when the fod was ready. It can get annoying in an already loud restaurant to have some kid with a cracking voice scream your name into a loudspeaker. As we waited for the grub, we looked around the restaurant for that ethereal«ambiance» quality. Here it screams«tacky tourist trap.» There are pics of proud fishermen displaying their prize catches, and an enormous number of those kitschy singing fish(Flying Fish actually trades baskets of catfish for your discarded Billy Bass!) The food took about 7 minutes to arrive, and when it did it was lava hot. The cook everything to order, and it shows. The catfish was darn near perfect with its cornmeal crust and moist, flaky texture. The included tartar sauce is right up my alley. I’m a dill guy. not a big fan of the sweet tarter. Theirs is dill-rific! The Shrimp are about the size of a toddler’s fist, and nicely coated. Cooked perfectly to remain tender. Cocktail sauce was a little bland. As I was leaving I saw a jar of horseradish sitting with the other condiments. Next time, I’ll mix a little in to kick the cocktail up a notch. Fries are standard fast-food fries. There was a pile of them under the main players, so they were room temp by the time I got to them. Not their fault. The Hushpuppies might have changed my life. Perfect little round balls or crispy happiness. When I bit into one I was thrilled to discover real corn studded through. Absolutely delicious. I also caused a scene trying to prize the last one in the basket away from my wife. When the baskets were empty we were full, but my wife noticed they make fried chocolate pies, so she went up and ordered two. a few minutes later we received the little pillows of chocolatey goodness. Hot as lava, semisweet, and decadent. We waddled out into the warm Texas evening, vowing to visit again soon.

We come in here fairly frequently for either fish tacos or boiled shrimp… I would recommend either dish! At times, the fish tacos are different, but good… maybe different cooks in the kitchen. The ambience and décor are casual. imagine a wall of talking fish!

Don’t forget to look in the valpak’s for a buy 1 get 1 free coupon! My friends and I always come here on Sundays for their oyster special.($ 4.50 half dozen or $ 9 for a dozen) Also ordered the whole red snapper which is perfectly fried and served with rice, veggies, and a tomato sauce to top the fish. Trout almondine was okay served with veggies and red beans/rice.

Their grilled trout is fresh and served with grilled zuchinni, rice and beans. The fried oyster breading was good but only had small piece of oyster in it. For $ 9.00 for six pieces you would think it would have whole oysters. No bueno. Miguel the cashier was pleasant and informative. We signed up on line and immediately got a coupon. We’ll use it for our next visit and check if fried oyster is better.

The fried catfish, red beans and rice with hush puppies is what I’ve gotten the two times I’ve been here and I’ve not been disappointed either time. I think the price should be a little lower, but I’ll be back.

Great location, lots of different beers, and seafood! New Orleans feel to the restaurant, great music, and I thought the food was a bit overpriced for what you get but worth the experience. Coslaw is delicious and enjoyed the spicy jambalaya but the catfish wasn’t great. And soda is like 2.50! Fried shrimp wasn’t so good either. 2 out of 5 maybe. Grilled Trout was amazing!!!

This is your classic fried catfish, hush puppies, po boy kind of place. The po boys are way too bready and everything is overloaded with fries. The fried oysters are HUGE and get like ten stars from me. Other than that, everything is only okay, and the prices are too high for what you get, which is really just a bunch of bread or french fries or rice, depending on what you order. I’ve had better. I am looking forward to trying the crawfish, so maybe there will be more positive review forthcoming.

Intro– like seafood? Then make it snappy! A pretty nice environment to get your water dwelling food fix! Service– the service was standard. Not anything beyond amazing, and nothing done poorly so can’t complain about that. Food– I’ve probably been here about 5 times and every time had me pretty satisfied. Most of the time I would get the po-boys and I think for that, I’ve tried the popcorn shrimp, popcorn crawfish, and popcorn oyster ones?! Those were pretty good! The breading is relatively light and the seafood was always tender. They also give you a generous amount of the protein so expect for your sandwich to be overflowing! The last thing I had was the jumbalaya and that was pretty nice. It’s like gumbo and rice. I prefer razzoo’s for gumbo but this wasn’t all too bad. Anyway, the thing I really loved from here was the oysters and how it’s cheaper than a couple of other places I’ve been to! The market price here has been most kind~ All in all, the food is above decent! Conclusion– if you guys like seafood, this is definite stop-by. You gotta try it and if you’re ordering, don’t forget to tell them to «make it snappy!» The spices for that is pretty good!

So happy I found this place. The catfish and shrimp are delicious. The gumbo is good but the roux can be a bit bitter. The bread pudding reminds me of my grandmother’s, not as good but a good reminder.
