Wanted to try this place out as its been on my list since forever and I was in the plaza waiting for my hair stylist. Got the hainan chicken and a duck bao. It doesn’t look like a lot of food for $ 12 but it is. The hainan chicken was good. The rice was extremely oily. I looked under the rice and it was sitting in a puddle of oil. Bleh. And the ginger since they give you is salty, wish I would’ve known this before I packed it over my oily rice. But the chicken is pretty good. They give you a drumstick and a couple slabs of thigh meat. The duck bao was something to be desired a bit. I feel like the extra add ins they put in, take away from the duck. Props to them for doing something like this though. I’d want to come back for the bolsa bao. I like that it’s next to a lien hoa bbq so they never have to worry about running out of meat. This place has potential. I would come back again but probably only for the baos, skip the oily rice.

5 Star for originality Fresh and fast. Place is very small. Tried all 6 types of Bao’s and my favorite was the roast duck. You can get full off of 2. Pictures don’t do them justice since they are pretty good size. I would come back.

I am rating for their customer«service». I just came back from this place with no food because they were closed at 10 instead of 10:30 because they ran out of food. This was my first time here and my boyfriend has been wanting to try it since it open. We walked in and saw a picture menu on the door so we went back to check on it to see the pictures for a better reference on what to order. While standing there and talking pretty loudly about what we wanted to order, an employee walked towards us to turn off the window sign lights and walked away without saying anything. So we thought they were still open and it’s fine. After deciding, we walked in and the girl at the counter noticed us and stared for awhile while working. When we reached the counter, she finally told us they were closed and when I tried to check the time, that’s when she told us it’s because they ran out of food. First of all, why didn’t the employee turning off the lights say anything? We wasted a good 10 minute standing there looking at the window menu. Was it that hard to say«we’re closed due to no more food»? and that girl at the counter stared at us and knew we were heading inside, could have just given a quick holler about the situation. It just felt like a totally complete waste of time and we were extremely hungry. Won’t be coming here until this irritation disappears. Here’s a tip: don’t come about 45 min before closing. Maybe even call out first cause I wasted 20 minutes of my life that I won’t be getting back.

OMG. I feel like if I grew up/went to high school around this area, I would 100% hang out at this plaza of incredible Asian restaurants after school everday and just become morbidly obese over time. Tried BAOSHOG for the first time last week and fell in love. I love the concept of how you can order as many bao’s as you want and range from having a quick snack to a full-on meal. Prices are totally fair. This is right up my alley as a Hong Kong native, with choices such as «cha siu» pork and roast duck we typically serve at Chinese weddings, etc. Ingredients are great quality. I wish, however, they didn’t squeeze so much hoi sin sauce on the bao’s. It can be overpowering. I saw on the menu they also had egg drop soup(delish) and cucumber lemonade or watermelon chiller. Great choices! I love restaurants that have simple menus but offer winning options, and do what they do incredibly well. Excited to come back!

I LOVEBOA and more and more I crave it! Usually they are PREFECT size for a snack and NOT a full meal but this place is different in that aspect. So what is BAO? It is a Chinese steamed bun filled with meat. That is about as simple as you can get. So basically its a san-mich. First off there is plenty of parking but it could be a little tricky because it located in a UBERBUSY strip mall but I managed to find a spot. I walked in right away I was greeted with a warm hello can I help you. There were a few customers eating and waiting for food, but NOLINE! ALWAYSNICE! I decided I would get it to go and begin to peruse the menu. They have the menus printed at the counter and it is also written on the chalk wall. Types of BAO: DUCK — quack quack not AFLAC BOSS — braised oink, onik belly BOLSA — crispy oink, oink belly CHASIU — BBQ oink oink COW — rib-eye mooooo HOTCHICK — fried barn yard pimp AKA chicken Types of RICE: Roasted quack quack(duck) Roasted oink oink belly Braised oink oink belly BBQ oink oink Rib-eye and egg AKA Elsey and Chicken Little got married Hainan barn yard pimp(AKA chicken) Rice:(white or dark meat) Add Ons: Cabbage carrot slaw — $ 1.50 Extra Hainan sauce — $ 1.50 Sunny Side Egg — $ 1 Bao Bun — $ 1 Small Bites/Sides: Salt and Pepper wings Pop Chick Potstickers Cauli Fries They also have a few different drinks for you to select from including tea and some sort of chillers which look like slushies or something. I decided to get the bbq oink oink(chasiu), roasted quack quack(duck), rib-eye moooo(cow). That was BEFORE I saw how GI-NORMOUS they were. I thought they would be the small snack size boa but they WERENOT! One or two is PLENTY! One is PREFECT for a meal and TWO you’ll probably end up feeling full as a tick at the end. BUTWELLWORTHIT! They have a cool little viewing window where you can watch them prepare food. Everything is on an assembly line of sorts. There are the different meat section and the sauce and condiment section. It moves pretty fast. One person cooks up the meat while the other prepares the bao. Not long after my order was packaged and ret-to-go. Once I got home I dove in teeth first. My first bite was the BBQ and it was DELISH! They gave me some sauce to go with was prefect with the bbq bao/sand. I pretty much gobbled it down and started working on the cow! VERYFLAVORFUL and TENDER! LOVED the seasoning on that one. DEFINITELY a do-over for that. Last one was the duck but I was TOOFULL! I took a bite and it was GOODNOTGREASY like duck can be at times. So I will have the rest of that for my din-din later. I REALLYENJOYED the BAOS here. I will BEBACK! Take a BOA you did a GREATJOB!

Its Tasty Thu again!!! I dropped by here for some take out, after eating at Boiling Point in the same mall. Baos Hog offers several proteins in baos(duck, hey quay beo [crispy pork belly], char siu, beef & chicken), and also offers the same proteins w/rice. Baos are $ 3.50, and rice plates range between $ 6.95 and $ 8.50. BH is located in the mall on the corner of Brookhurst & Westminster in Garden Grove. We ordered duck, bolsa(crispy pork belly), and char siu. Each one comes w/pickled carrots, cucumber, hoisin, sriracha & fried shallots. First of all, the duck skin was crispy, and the meat juicy as you would expect from a Peking duck. Secondarily, the pork belly was crispy as advertised and a nice sized portion for the price. My cousin killed it, although he had a hot pot earlier. Lastly, the char siu was tender and flavorful, but in slices vs a normal bao. BH’s version is like a taco because its open. Nonetheless, the dough in the baos were moist: All 4 Stars. Regarding the ambiance, the place is small and everything is stainless steel. However, you can see your food being prepared: 4 Stars. The service is very friendly. Our cashier was really nice, and the food came out quicky: 4 Stars. I would come here vs Musubiya Balls & Burgers. The food is better, more reasonably priced, and very satisfying compared to MB&B.

Got the crispy pork belly bao and the hainan chicken bao. Really enjoyed the crispy pork belly since there was that crispy layer of skin and the rest of the pork was soft and tender. I loved how it was paired with the pickled veggies and the hoisin sauce, but really couldn’t taste the orange colored sauce — I think it might’ve been a sriracha mayo? The hainan chicken bao on the other hand was just alright, wouldn’t get it again though. The bao itself was soft, but could’ve been warmed up more though. The size of the bao was small considering you’re going to be paying around $ 4 for one. If you’re just having the baos for a meal you will definitely need at least two to be somewhat full, probably even three. I’ll be back to try the other ones though, but just one at a time, as a snack.

Bomb! Came with my boyfriend and we got 1 of each bao(I know, we were hungry). We even added the hunan chicken, which although is not what they specialize in, it was very tasty! The baos are so good! The duck one is by far my favorite. Bolsa pork belly comes in at a close 2nd place. The others are good as well, but those two stuck out for their fatty flavors. The baos itself are tasty too, fluffy, savory and sweet all in one. I got the watermelon drink as well, and it was a refreshing drink to go along with my intense bao meal. Overall, loved this place. Coming back for sure.

Similar concept to the ones served at authentic Chinese restaurants also known as Peking duck. They come with these baos which is pretty much plain dough but made so soft and tasty that it goes extremely well with meat. Dying to try what seemed like these peking duck baos, we decided to try it at this spot. We ordered the Duck Bao, Pork Belly Bao and BBQ pork Bao which all had its unique name but you’ll figure it out there! I gotta say the order that it was listed above were in fact the ratings from best to worst. My reasoning for Duck Bao tasting the best is because it just feels right… its the classic bao combination to go to! The meat was juicy and top it off with the sauce, it just hit the spot. Pork Belly one was somewhat unique… it was just a straight pork belly piece topped off in what seemed like vietnamese sandwich vegetables to create an unique vietnamese sandwich taste which was good as well. BBQ bao was just somewhat dry, it was like eating a jerky instead of BBQ pork hence the last place in the overall rating. This is a cool concept and great for a quick snack especially if you’re not feeling a full on course meal. Just wished they had a quality Bao Shop up here in NorCal!

After seeing everyone’s instagram posts of this place, I had to check it out for myself. On the window, there’s a sentence that reads, ‘eat like a boss’ and the restaurant name/logo itself was pretty cute with the o’s as piggy snouts. So adorbs! I honestly expected these baos to be super small, but they were surprisingly huge… to me at least. I don’t know how to describe the size of em, so you gotta see it for yourself. The size of the steamed bun itself and the amount of meat they stuff inside is pretty generous, so the price is very reasonable in my opinion. We tried the duck, the cha siu, and the boss. The duck was my favorite! The cha siu bao just tasted like a regular pork bun, but it was good. Didn’t try the boss because I don’t like pork belly too much, but my boyfriend liked it a lot! If you’re not feelin their baos, you can always try one of their rice plates. They’ve got hainan chicken and I would’ve probably tried that if I didn’t have it at Green Zone and Savoy Kitchen. Their drinks sound pretty good too. maybe next time I’ll try them! The restaurant itself is pretty small, but there’s plenty of parking since it’s in a plaza. If you want some milk tea afterwards, stop by Dingtea nearby!

Yum! We ventured here after drooling over some pics. So glad we did! First of all, they did a great job with the space. Such cool and simple décor, but makes for a nice dining experience. Black and white is fab! Music is also kicking, and the service was excellent. We had the duck, boss, and bolsa with lychee lemonade. I could have eaten everything on the menu it was that good. This was a memorable meal that I can’t wait to repeat.

I’m actually giving this place 4 ½ stars, but I will round up since some of the«bad stuff» are very small. I’m so happy my friend remembered about this place lol. I would come here everyday if I lived down here. I seriously love this stuff. The prices are so reasonable too. You could get two of these for under $ 10 and they’re pretty big in size too. They’re like the size of an average girls hand, yeah it sounds weird, but idk how else to explain it lol. I got two of them and right as I was finishing the first one, I was already getting filled up. I got the Chasiu and Bolsa. Chasiu is BBQ pork and the Bolsa crispy belly. I loved the Chasiu. The meat wasn’t chewy, the portions of everything inside was just right. The Bolsa was okay, there were some parts of the crispy belly I just could not eat. Too tough. My BF got the Duck and Boss baos, duck is duck and the Boss is braised belly. That Duck was awesome! The Boss was good. Price for them are: Chasiu, Bolsa and Boss are all $ 3.50. The Duck is $ 4. The service was good. Nice friendly, fast. When we got there it was slow, but right after we paid for our food, more people came in and it got busy. It was around 8:15pm on a Saturday night. When we first saw the sign of this place, the«o’s» reminded me of Baymax lol. So I call it the Baymax place lol. Overall, I really did enjoy the food. I would come back, if you’re down here and want something not too heavy and pricy, come here!

Being raised as an Asian American, I’ve been fortunate to have been raised eating all types of delicious foods. When I heard about this place, I really wanted to try it. I loved the idea– a place where familiar flavors and food from my childhood are presented in a modern twist. I’ve been here twice now, granted I don’t even live here. But I absolutely love the Bolsa Bao and the Duck Bao. If you can only get one, I would highly recommend the Bolsa Bao. The crispy pork belly is so on point it’s crazy! The only reason why I give this place one less of a star is because the second time I went, my meat was literally cold. I didn’t have time to go ask about it, but that was very disappointing. The flavors were still good but even the duck was a little sad at this time. The first time I’ve visited this place was right in the morning. Perhaps the time you come here affects the food you’ll be getting, but my first time was amazing! The pork belly was crisp and even the duck had a nice little crunch. I deeply enjoyed them the first time I visited them. This 2nd visit I was pretty disappointed but I’m still a fan of this place. I hope next time I visit, I’ll get it like the first time…

What a hidden gem! Hubby and I were looking for a place to eat in this plaza and randomly saw this hole in the wall. Modern and clean. So our adventure began. Hubby saw the Hainan dark meat with rice and that was the end of his selection. The Unilocaler in me quickly browsed through a few reviews and pictures and decided on the duck bao and cucumber lemonade. For $ 7.50, the hainan chicken with rice was delicious– not too oily and the meat was tender. The duck bao was very generous on the duck meat. The meat was almost 1 cm think and tasted fresh and juicy. The skin even had a crunch to it. We will be back to try the other items.

Baos hog is pretty modern and there definitely is a lot of hype here. I came around evening and it was pretty crowded. I was able to get a table but it felt like it took forever to get my baos. I basically got all the main baos. I only really liked the duck and pork belly one. I thought my mom got char siu next door so I didn’t get that bao, but she didn’t! Boo. Anyway, I only really enjoyed 3⁄6 of the baos I got. I’m not sure if the price was worth the portion but it was more expensive than I thought it would be… Lychee tea — diluted and not strong enough. PARKING: I’m sure you can find parking somewhere as the plaza is pretty big but it gets pretty crowded, especially at night.

Yay my friend and I finally hit Baos Hog! It was on my bookmarks for some time and I was like«nooo i need to stop by!» So after my friend and I shared a few dumplings from Din Tai Fung, we headed off to the magical land of Garden Grove. We had Baos Hog, because we’re bosses. We walked in and we saw the huge menu to the left. The bao that they have: Duck Chashu Bolsa Cow Hot Chick Boss They have rice meals as well, in case you’re a fan of the bao! The ones I had: Duck($ 4) cucumber, fried shallots, green onions, hoisin sauce, a cup of duck au jus I actually skipped the last part because it was separate and wasn’t on the sandwich. I was lazy. Oh wells. This one was good, but the hoisin sauce was prevalent(which, just like the ones you get at the Chinese banquets, is what’s supposed to happen). They have the green onions cut small(not like Chinese banquets). Good: D I’m not a fan of the strong big green onion taste. I mean, why you gotta do that. The duck was well flavored and wasn’t dry, so Raymond was excited for it. Bolsa(crispy belly): cucumber, red onion, pickled carrots, fried shallots, green onions, hoisin, sriracha, garlic mayo($ 3.50) YAYRAYMONDCANEATPIGGYSKIN. It’s not crispy like the ones you get right off the pork when you buy it at the restaurants(like Sam Woo). And this one, you need the hoisin sauce, because the pork mixes well with the hoisin sauce. Why not drench it. It’s what you totally need anyways, right? I wasn’t a fan of the red onions because they were… just a weird addition for me. The one bug cucumber–(y). Add that to hoisin sauce. Hahah its goooood. At the end of the day, yes it’s expensive. And it’s gonna be for something that won’t make you full. So why should you come here? If you wanna try something different, if you’re in the city of GG and need a snack, or you just have an insatiable crave for bao. You do you man. Tons of parking in plaza, 6? tables in the restaurant itself! Also bathroom needs a key– ask the employee for a key!

Good olé bookmark landed us here to grub. And oh yeah, my companion, Jeff V, drove us here since he had this spot on his bookmark as well. Ofcourse Chel wanted to try their cow(ribeye) bao. The ribeye packed with garlic and onion flavor was soft and tender. The bao is a thick dough that cradled the ribeye and is very much light and airy inside and from the first bite, I wasn’t a fan of this bao. Jeff ordered the cow(ribeye) over white rice with fried egg on top with raw veggies on the side. And he also ordered the Bolsa(crispy pork belly) which was perfectly cooked over white rice as well and same side. The man certainly likes his protein, riiiight? Hahaha. Anyway, it’s similar to Inihaw na liempo in Filipino cuisine minus the Mang Tomas dipping sauce but rather schirracha readily available if desired. Although we agreed it was good, it was a little tough on the bite on the crispy part of the belly. I’m not quite sold on the bao concept but indeed as others have said, it is very similar to a tortilla but wayyyyyyy thicker dough and airy inside. I will probably order with white rice instead on my return visit. A small spot located in a busy shopping plaza but we were able to find parking with ease. We also arrived at a good time since the place was pretty empty when we arrived. The gentleman behind the counter was helpful helping us decide what to order since he knew it was our first visit here. I’d definitely return and will probably try their duck bao next visit and more of their cow bao! Ty for lunch sweetie! #chel#exploring#OC

It feels like I went to someone’s house and their mom started to cook for me. Only wait… It’s a store. in a shopping center, decorated with modern décor. The moment I took a bite into my sandwich…(is that what it is?)(or taco??) I could tell there was so much love put into the cooking. Seriously, I’ve never had anything like this. Everything I ordered had so much flavor. My favorite bao was the bbq pork! The meat was so tender and juicy. I was a little bummed because i wanted to try the cauliflower fries, though they did have a fried green beans on the daily specials board, so I was able to satisfy my craving for something fried. The green beans were so crispy and so good! For the amount of food that comes out the prices are cheap! This is going to be my new spot! Great food and great service and on the cheap! Check it out!

One of my friends recommended an Asian fusion eatery featuring baos, but i realized I went to the wrong place after we had already finished eating here LOL. Their menu is written on left side of the wall and had 6 types of baos to choose from. We didn’t know which bao to try, so we ended up ordering one of each plus some hainan chicken with dark meat since they ran out of white meat. Then I noticed a small board with a few specials by the register, so we added a shrimp bao to our order. The girl at the counter was not friendly and seemed annoyed when she took our order. We grabbed a table and waited about 10 minutes before part of our order was ready. Everything looked so yummy so far! Almost all the baos were the same, except for the meat(of course) and some of the condiments inside. I was excited to try the hainan chicken, but it was just okay. The sauce that came with it was not as good as some other places I’ve tried. If you want to check this place out, I recommend getting the cha siu and Bolsa bao– those were my favorites. I saw that they also have an egg bolsa version now, which wasn’t on the menu at the time, but that one looks really good and messy to eat!

Came here around 12 on a weekday and it was practically empty. Good for me since there wasn’t a wait, but a bit skeptical on why it’d be empty. My skepticism went away the second I ate my baos — duck, crispy pork belly, BBQ pork, and tri tip. Not only are they filling(because of the density of the bao), they’re also delicious! Each bao had its own distinct taste and feature and the watermelon freeze and black lychee tea were a good way to wash it down. Out of those 4 I had, I’d put the«cow»(tri tip) as my number 1 choice. The customer service was pleasantly good too which took me by surprised since the entire plaza in general usually has rude employees and people!
