I came to Galveston for vacation and decided to come to a local taqueria for breakfast. I was blown away by how fresh and delicious the food was. I recommend the Ocampo Burrito. Also don’t forget to get the salsa verde on the side. Very cheap and very delicious! Definitely will be coming back.

Bland bland bland. [No] service service service. We live on the island and this is our only«no return trip» mexican restaurant. Spicy salsa was no better than mild pace piccante. Carne asada was so tough my son had to spit it out. Same thing with the chicken fajita salad. Tough meat. I asked for my eggs«sunny side up» and they came out«over easy». Getting a refill on coffee was few and far between. Asked for chips and salsa that never came. Oh, and they charge a buck to pay with credit card. My first one star review and they earned it.

Not a great first experience !!! While ordering drinks my gf and I ordered michaladas, after bringing out our beers waitress said they didn’t have michalada mix. My gf ordered shrimp cocktail which they did not have but it’s on the menu, so she ordered chicken soup and I ordered a burger to play it safe. The wait was about 20 minutes. Waitress finally comes out with my burger then walks away another waitress then decides to inform us there is no chicken soup. WHACKNESS

Great lunch specials. Best Mexican street tacos in Galveston! From Breakfast burritos to dinner plates, there’s not one plate I’ve ordered and didn’t think it was simply delicious.

I have breakfast here at least once a week and I love the place. They serve chilaquiles just the way I like it. Add some pico de gallo and it makes for my favorite breakfast. They provide quick and happy service. I’m a regular now and they always know what I want. Enjoy !

Very good food, the Crispy Taco Plate was very good. The meat had great flavor and the shells were very light and crispy. The refried Beans and rice were average. I will return.

One of the best meals we’ve had all weekend long. Reminiscent of my motherin laws cooking. Almost as good as my wife’s great place to come and bring the whole family. Good coffee and the wait staff very friendly. Two thumbs up.

This place is of the beaten path but it is worth the trip. The food overall is good, the tortillas and beans are home made which is a must for a mexican restaurant. Other than that the service and prices were adequate. I would recommend if you are looking for some quality food.

Wow if you are looking for awesome authentic Mexican food served from the locals in Galveston look no further. They serve breakfast until 2:30pm, and there salsa is great and if you desire a lil more kick ask them for the Hot sauce from the back, I’m pretty sure it’s straight habanero. The place is an older building but very clean and the servers are always courteous and greet you with a sincere smile. the menu has a wide variety and the portion are humongous… prepare for food to take home.

Went for breakfast on Sunday. Saw folks who looked like locals, so that’s always comforting. I had the huevos rancheros and they were delicious. But my friends had the barbacoa and eggs and the chorizo and eggs. And since I eat off other people’s plates, I have to say they were both better. The flour tortillas actually have flavor. The coffee was just, you know, coffee, but there was plenty of it. And the ladies waiting tables were all just as sweet as they could be.

The food is generally good but I’ve noticed it’s hit or miss. I only eat breakfast there and I’ve eaten there five or six times now. I always get migas ala mexicana. The issue is bacon. As in, sometimes it comes with and sometimes it doesn’t. No pattern I can discern, just sometimes yes, sometimes no. They also cook the bacon in the deep fryer and almost always for too long. The flour tortillas are as thick as pancakes, which is a bit thick for my tastes. The salsa is very good as are the chips. English seems to be a real problem for most of the waitresses. I point and smile.

Solid authentic Mexican food. Huge homemade tortillas. Machacada & eggs very tasty, hubby loved his huevos rancheros. More than we can eat, definitely hit the spot! Wish we had been here Monday for chiles rellenos.

Stumbled in to this place and wondered if the food would be ok… we were blown away! Service was welcoming and humble. These ladies are so gracious. The food stands on its own. You will not be disappointed. It is a great value for your money!

I stopped here one afternoon for lunch. People and service were friendly. It was late in the afternoon, so it wasn’t busy. I ordered a combo plate that consisted of a taco, a cheese enchilada and a tostada. Everything was tasty, but nothing to rave about. I plan to come back and try breakfast since these other reviewers enjoyed it so much. I am also dying to try their taco truck, but I rarely see it open.

I was staying at a beach house on 17th near the seawall and was looking for some breakfast tacos within walking distance. I chose Ocampo out of a few Unilocal suggestions – excellent decision. The breakfast tacos were awesome. They are listed under the«breakfast burritos», but the waitress said they could make all the burritos into tacos. The sauce/salsa they serve on the side was equally awesome. The coffee was pretty stellar too. I’d say it took less than five minutes for everything to be ready from the time I ordered. Also, the whole deal cost less than $ 5. I’m excited to eat here again next time I’m in town and I’ll be trying more of the larger meals for sure.

This place is delicious! I had the Barbacoa and eggs and it was fabulous!.The serving was generous, cooked well,& lots of great flavor. We also had the Huevos Rancheros, Migas & eggs, & Chorizo & eggs.5 of us tried it for breakfast & left with our tummys happy. I grew up eating Mexican in California, so I’m critical about Mexican food. I’m giving it 4 stars & not 5 because its a very casual place and I don’t consider it fine Mexican dinning. If you’re searching for tasty, authentic, Mexican food for under $ 10/plate, in a casual setting; this place is a great find!

Love their breakfast burritos! One morning they hadn’t made salsa verde yet, but told me to come back in 10 minutes to pick up while they made it right away. Great service, friendly people, yummy food.

Discovered a great place for Mexican breakfast last week, Melchor Ocampo on 23rd Street. It’s in a location that has changed names many times, but I believe this one will endure. The small dining room has been doubled in size due to the recent attractive expansion. We got a seat in the back right next to Mama, whose recipes from her Mexican hometown of Melchor Ocampo, Nuevo Leon, are the basis of the menu. She kept us well entertained while we waited for our food. And the abundant coffee kept us happy too. I love Migas(hold the jalapeños), so of course I ordered those as it is my test of any Mexican breakfast venue. Their version is «Migas con huevos a la Mexicana» so that way potatoes and onion join the tortilla in the eggs, mm mm good. They were very tasty as were the potatoes served alongside, and the creamy refried beans. And the bacon – can’t forget that because except in this dish I usually bypass it – crispy and perfect. This was as delicious as any Migas I’ve had in G-town. My friend ordered his own favorite, Chilaquiles. For the uninitiated, this is a central Mexican standard from the Nahuatal«chlquilitl», using corn tortilla with eggs, tomato, onions and white cheese sauce. It arrived as he likes it with the cheese sauce mixed well with the other ingredients, and he rated them«excelente». Their salsa is homemade and very flavorful, not too picante for a coward like me, but fine with my chile-loving companion. Melchor Ocampo caters to the breakfast and lunch crowd, 6:30am to 2:30 pm(closed Tuesdays) and offers daily specials. Weekend specialties include menudo, barbacoa, and tamales. I’m planning to get back for lunch and try out some of the specials because they are sure to be as delicious as the breakfast offerings. If you enjoy Mexican food, this eatery is definitely worth a visit.
