Was drawn into this place by the unusual architecture(hey honey, what is that??). The food and service are wonderful. On a chilly winter day the fire was so inviting! Had the mussels, and I am very picky. Perfectly cooked, and not just 10 or 12 mussels. 2 dozen. Will be going back again with friends!

We came here on a Saturday when it was just getting busy and were seated right away neAr the fireplace. We started with the crab stuffed mushrooms; maybe the best I’ve had! They were stuffed with only crab meat and were cooked perfectly. I had the sirloin with rice and my husband had the grilled salmon with mashed potatoes. We were both impressed with the food; flavorful and cooked nicely. Waitress was amazing and kept our glasses full. We will be back!

Atmosphere was nice. Service was awesome. Meal was deliscious. Had the firecracker wontons… YUMMY. Had trout for dinner with veggies. The veggies were nicely seasoned and trout was amazing. Will definitely visit again.

Staff: 5 stars Food: 3 stars I came here for dinner and sat at the bar. The bartenders were friendly and the Mai Tai was tasty. Mara was filling in but would find the answer to my numerous questions. Instead of an appetizer, I started with an artisan salad. I saw goat cheese and knew what I was ordering. The field greens were nice and the cheese was plentiful but so was the dressing. As the dates were already sweet the dressing needed a tad more acid. The leaves were just too heavy with the clingy raspberry dressing. I order the Saint Louis ribs which were fall off the bone tender. The sauce was plentiful and painfully sweet. I would order them again but ask for the sauce on the side. As a Kansas girl I am picky when it comes to ribs. My perfect sauce is a thick, sweet sauce mixed with a mustardy one to add a hint of tart. My entrée came with two sides and the red skin mashed potatoes were a perfect choice to cut the sweet from the BBQ sauce. I was surprised to see soup offered as a side and was pleased with the daily Maryland crab soup. No lump crab but I could taste the essence. Chunky with potatoes, corn and romantic. A hint of spice left my tongue wanting more. Dessert was a lemon berry cake. I sense a theme because the cake was too sweet. The lemon and berries were a great combination. The vanilla buttercream in the middle was yummy and I liked the powdered sugar on top. I sprung for a tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream… but once I ran out of ice cream, I left a third of the cake on my plate. Not sure why the end was too dry. It was Friday night and there are salsa lessons for the novice and intermediates. There was a nice turnout and the crowd was polite. I would come back for the salsa and if I eat here again, I will stick to the burgers.

Four of us went last weekend for a friend’s birthday dinner.(It was my third or fourth visit.) It’s convenient and I’ve never been disappointed. We ordered two filet mignon specials, one salmon, and a burger.(On previous occasions friends have ordered pork dishes and cleared their plates.) We scarfed down our food and were all VERY satisfied. My cousin said, «this is probably the best steak I’ve ever had.» Our plates were so clean… probably whiter than when they were first manufactured. Our bottle of wine, served by our charismatic and attentive server(Chad), helped round out our pleasant experience. The management goes around to each table to genuinely ensure quality and satisfaction, but they’re not intrusive(an extra plus). On a chilly night, I’d recommend sitting close to their large fireplace. Bring friends and enjoy well-prepared food and excellent service.

I was in town on business and tried this place as its close to my hotel. Just an OK experience and not a repeat in the future. PROs: steak was cooked perfectly and very tasty, blue cheese dressing and the salad were very good, the rolls were warm and delicious, the server was friendly and helpful. CONs: mashed potatoes were bland, dry and tasteless, while tasty… the steak was very fatty and over ½ was not edible. The owner made the rounds of the tables checking with everyone… except me! I guess it was obvious I was not a regular so I didn’t deserve his attention! I found that very rude, he didn’t even acknowledge me. I should have found me anOutback!

Drove 7 hours and actually wanted to order pizza for the hotel. Instead wanted a real meal. So glad we decided to come here. When we walked in we were not sure if it was a good choice as there were only one other table but that was just because we must have been there too early. By the time we left the dining room was full. And now i know why. I ordered the filet skewer and my husband ordered the roasted chicken. The food was cooked to perfection and everything was gone. For dessert we ordered a raspberry cake and ricotta cheese cake — D E L I S H! And the berry sangria was extremely good. If we ever come back through this way we will be back

Stonehouse Grille is our favorite restaurant in Gaithersburg. I still get the freshly made spinich diamond pies with the flakey phyllo dough. They are decadently good but you feel healthy since there is spinich in them — that counts as a veggie, right? I am envious of their salads since the lettuce is so much fresher than what I can find in the grocery stores. I still love the tender prime rib sandwich with steak fries and some horseradish(ask for it if you like it). I have also had the fish and chips which were good; not fishy. The ribs are excellent! If you remember Bare Bones restaurant, this is the first place I have found that is as good as that. My husband has gotten the fresh, not frozen salmon every single time with the fresh, garlic spinich and homemade mashed potatoes. He always gets the molten chocolate brownie cake with vanilla ice cream. It is enough for one person or if the 2nd person only needs to take 2 or 3 bites. I like the new drink menu with the new mixed drinks for $ 8 in addition to the selection of beer and wines. I got the peach drink which really did not taste like peach but more like a grown up, light lemonade which actually went well with the food — light flavor. My goal is to try every mixed drink on the menu since they all looked good from the cucumber mint mojito to the pomegranate martini. The manager always makes us feel very welcomed. Service was great(Chad). It is better to come after the dinner rush hour. We got there after 8 pm on Saturday and it was not crowded but had been packed earlier. Live music outside on the patio. This is a great neighborhood restaurant that serves high quality, fresh good food and drinks at very reasonable prices. I am glad they are here.

This is the first time we’ve been to the restaurant(new restaurant at an old location) and I’m sure we’ll be back. Having gone to the old Flaming Pit for years and read/heard about the«new» Pit, we stayed away. But the recent changes are worth giving Stonehouse Grill a try. This version is much lighter and brighter, with an enlarged patio area and new bar area. While it was a slow Saturday night at the restaurant, staffing seemed sufficient even if they had a full house. And the owners are out front and interested in your feedback. Everyone enjoyed their apps and entrees. Service was great and helpful. Check average was about $ 45/person(cocktails, apps, entrees, couple of desserts and coffees, and tip). Wontons have a nice kick and the ribs do fall off the bones. Give them a try. Everyone else’s food was presented well. Why 4 stars not 5… well, I’m not sure. Probably just holding off on 5 based on future visits.

Had a Groupon to use($ 15 for $ 30) so we came here on a Sunday around 11:30AM to start off the day. We were the only diners there for about 45 minutes but staff was available and attentive and the quiet atmosphere allowed us to discuss how True Detective Season 2 would end(terribly, as it turned out later in the day). The breadbasket was fresh and hot and our stuffed crab mushroom appetizer was just the right portion and very delicious. For our entrees, we ordered the steak sandwich and the«Works» burger(fried egg, harissa aioli sauce, sauteed mushrooms, and mixed greens) both of which came with a small coleslaw and fries. The total with tax and tip came out to about $ 45(before Groupon). As we left, some other customers began arriving. Overall, I’d say this place is a hidden gem, with good quality portions, prices, and service. The exterior looks quite dated but the interior is clean and comfortable. They also very nice and unique faux-wood bathroom sink fixtures(at least in the men’s room), so check those out.

If you’re my age your parents probably dragged you to the Flaming Pit as a kid. It wasn’t horrible but not usually your first choice. Welcome to the new Stonehouse Grille. We went there after my cataract surgery(YES I AM too young to have cataracts — so wear your sunglasses. You’re welcome) Since my eyes were very sensitive to the sun we asked for and were seated in the empty room. They even kept the lights off for us! We were not forgotten. Our waiter was great and the owner visited our table a few times to chat and check on us. Since it was my parents 4th visit in 2 weeks they were treated like celebrities. They are creatures of habit and when they find a place they like they stick with it. My father and I both got the filet mignon(yes– dad was paying). Both were cooked perfectly. My fries were awesome too. My father ate half of them so he must have liked them as well. My mother was happy with her shrimp appetizer. The prices weren’t hideous either. I gave it 4 stars because my father’s side dish wasn’t available and he wasn’t told. Not a catastrophe. He liked the green beans. The décor is fresh and no longer geared toward the older crowd. The outdoor patio is the bomb. I believe in giving new restaurants second and third chances to get through growing pains. If you go and don’t have a good experience try not to be so quick to write them off. I will definitely go back. When I’m in town. And dad pays. Or when I get a better salary. Or a new man. Whichever comes first. But I digress.

Ordered the pecan encrusted trout. When I got it the taste was very fishy. I mentioned it to my waitress and was told that it was very popular. Really? I left hungry.

My fiancée and I had a LivingSocial, so decided to check this place out on a Thursday night for dinner. There were a good amount of people there. The servers were warm and nice. It took awhile for our server to finally take our order and had to come back twice to confirm our order(since he did not write it down). While waiting for our food, I heard footsteps behind me and suddenly realized there was a heavy set man’s arms and body on top of my shoulders and he also knocked over my glass of water and the glass cup broke. He started to apologize and said he slipped on the floor. Well, somehow he slid from his chair across 15 feet of floor and my chair and body stopped him. We still aren’t sure if he was drunk or not. A server came and apologized and had us switch to the table next to us so that they can clean up the glass. Our server asked us what happened and said that dessert would be on the house, which was nice. Food– I got the rib eye(medium rare) with a side of french fries and mashed potatoes. The rib eye was very bland. I couldn’t eat it without A1 sauce, but they did get the medium rare right. The mashed potatoes had absolutely no flavor and was very powdery(like fine sand). The french fries were very normal. My fiancée got the St. Louis ribs with mashed potatoes and sauteed mushrooms. Her ribs did fall off the bone(like the menu described) except it was also bland, despite the thin layer of bbq sauce on it. The mashed potatoes were the same as mine, powdery and flavorless. The sauteed mushrooms were flavored, but with a ton of black pepper. At first, we thought our server forgot about the dessert on the house, but after he took our payment, he remembered. We ended up getting the bread pudding to go, but I haven’t tried it yet. Overall, I would not go back, even with a Living Social.

Nice change. The old place was usually a place you went to for special occasion. This new place is a place we can go for any reason. The inside is bright and airy. Flaming Pit was always too pricey and to dark for us, this place is more affordable and more likable. Mussels tasted great, the cheese flambé was very good, the seafood bisque was very tasty. I enjoyed the“Winter«Caprice a salad, the fried tomatoes made it very different and very wintery. I am excited to go back and try other items on the menu.

I hadn’t been to the flaming pit probably since my family moved to Maryland about 15 years ago, so I could not really remember much about it. I have only heard rumors about how it was going down hill in the past few years, which deterred me from returning. Once I saw that it had been revamped, it sparked my interest again. It does seem like they are doing a better job then they used to with reaching out to the community and making the presence known through social media, like livingsocial. I bought the deal they had online and decided to give it a shot. I like the fact that they have live music every now and again, and a very lovely fireplace, which we were seated by with our reservation. I had the seafood ciopionno which was very well seasoned. It had just enough kick for someone like me who doesn’t like too spicy. The wait staff was very attentive and pleasant. I am anxious to come back and try several of the other menu items. Overall a good experience!

I wasn’t impressed. When it was Flaming pit, it was known for the prime rib. But this place, based on the prime rib, I’d never come back. It was tough on the edges, tasteless and fatty. The sides of spinach and mashed potatoes were good though. My mom had the shaved rib-eye oscar, which is supposed to be a cream based pasta, but it turns out to be oil based. She said it was too greasy and dry. Two adjectives you don’t usually hear in the same sentence. She loved the bread though and the cheesecake was on point. We had the calamari for an appetizer. For $ 9, the portion size was small and the breading was too soggy. The squid was cooked perfectly though. The waitress was nice, but every time we asked her for something, she never remembered and we always had to ask two or three times. She never filled the water without being asked and even though she admitted to working at the restaurant for 2 to 3 months, she did not know the menu very well. I will say that the décor is stupendous compared to Flaming Pit. It’s so so much better. But I don’t know if I’ll come back.

It’s difficult for me to believe all the 5 star reviews and the 1 star reviews for this restaurant. Nothing was outstanding, but nothing was disgusting either. If you can look past the run-down exterior, inside you’ll find an aged interior that resembles my grandparents’ cottage. The service was outstanding, while the food was average. The prime rib(which several Unilocalers have ripped apart) was delicious, while the shrimp tempura and crab cake were too expensive for what they were. The sauteed mushrooms and roasted potatoes was that of Outback Steakhouse quality, which means it’s not memorable but you don’t regret ordering them. Lastly their lobster bisque was very creamy, and we would have loved to pay a bit more, to get bigger chunks of lobster inside. We used a livingsocial voucher to visit this place. Based on their prices and quality of ingredients, they should charge no more than $ 6 for the shrimp tempura, and $ 7 for the crab cake. Prime rib price to quality ratio was reasonable, but it alone isn’t enough for us to keep coming back. It doesn’t stand out beyond other average national chain steakhouses.

Not worth the price. The place smells like stale cigarette smoke and the food is mediocre at best. I had the goat cheese and dates salad with grilled shrimp(carry-out). I probably won’t go back, even though it’s right down the street from work.
