I went here with my family and ordered the food. When the food came it looked edible, but when I took a bite into the fried shrimp I got grossed out from the fact that they didn’t bother de-veining it first. The chicken was very rubbery and very greasy and the rice was burned. The only thing that was semi-okay was the sizzling shrimp. We weren’t even done eating and the lady waiter came by and took the food from the table. She didn’t even ask if we wanted it boxed. We assumed she was going to box it up. We went up to the window and asked where the food was, but she said she threw it away with an attitude and not even an apology. I asked if it was okay to refund me my money for the two shrimp combinations or to give me another order since it was still a lot of food left over. «You didn’t give me a tip!,» she said in a rude tone! She yelled it out so loudly that the customers could over-hear her. I wasn’t even out the door yet and she was asking me for a tip! She didn’t even care that she had thrown my food away! At this point I demanded at least a refund for one item combination. She was so rude. Finally the male cashier agreed to refund me $ 10 for one of the combination items. I was not pleased with the fact that the food was so disgusting and that she was so rude. As I was walking out the door she yelled at me across the restaurant, «get out of here!» I have NEVER been treated so badly and had such bad customer service. I know I will never come here again. They don’t know how to treat customers and the food is not the greatest.

A poor excuse not only for Chinese food but for food period. I ordered the Hong Kong special over pan-fried noodles. I don’t know what this thinner than vermicelli noodle was, but it was not pan-fried noodles. The greens were soft, almost mushy and the squid was very tough. It was packed and handed to me upside down so juice filled the plastic bag. The price on the menu was 7.50 and it came to 8.61? Out of $ 10(and they accepted cash only) the change was .29. So, even their math was wonky. We have several good restaurants in Fresno… this is not one of them.

Orange chicken was tough and the sauce was very salty. Didn’t have a hint of orange flavor. When I mentioned about salty sause just got a blank look. I’ll stick to my Taste China at 1st and Mckinley.

Best Chinese food around. We’ve been coming here for ten years and have never been disappointed. I would suggest you order off of the Chinese menu, not the regular one. Biggest suggestions to order are: orange chicken, spicy beef with noodles, braised green beans, or salt baked shrimp. I’ve tried a lot of different Chinese restaurants in Fresno/Clovis area and this one is the best.

My family and I love to go to Chinns on Sundays after church. The food is always hot, fresh and delicious. I love the lemon chicken, the Mongolian beef is the best! Also love the cashew chicken and the green beans with beef. The rice and noodles are tasty. Service is quick, portions are huge and the price is right! As far as the customer service — definitely a language barrier, but we always manage.

Very nice little place, with huge portions, located in a quiet strip mall. The best dish is the beef chow fun. We also had a group of twelve. Two orders of each dish was ample!!! Other good dishes are ma po tofu, Hong Kong style seafood chow mein, brazed string beans, and sweet and sour pork. It was a nice little find at the corner of Nees and Cedar.

We ordered the from the«Vegetarian» part of the menu: «Mu Shu Vegetable», when it was brought home & opened it was found out that it had chicken in it. I called them to inform them of this, they refused to accept this as true. The person who went in and purchased it(someone other than me) called them as well right afterward, and same result, they refused to accept the fact that they sold us a vegetarian meal with meat in it. We did not want to go to the trouble of taking it back, we no longer want to eat anything from there again. So we just let it go, and will never return there. Even though this place has a «Vegetarian» part on their menu: THEYARENOTVEGETARIANFRIENDLY! [Had to put at least one star so as to be able to post this, but in reality they get NOSTAR(S)]

Food was bland but portions were large. Service was ok but friendly. Don’t know what to say as I was not altogether impressed. Friends from church invited us so I am grateful for the company and food.

I didn’t take a picture of my food because it wasn’t worth it. There was lack of service just water and menus brought to us and then a server saying wut do we need to order. The food did not take long which led me to believe that their fried rice was pre cooked and packed in a rice warmer. So was their chowmein. The only thing that took 10 min to make was my Mongolian beef because they had to make that from scratch. They used too much hoisin and there was no spicy peppers in it. Very big portion for the price $ 6 for lunch plate and we got so much food and rice. I don’t know if that’s a good thing considering our food was bland and blah. Hopes that helps.

I don’t think I have ever experienced such rotten cashier service before. The lady at the register was snappy even before i made an order to go. Then she got even more crabby after I told her no mushrooms. There was another lady that just ordered before me so when the cashier called out«chow fun», I didn’t know if it was mine and she shouted at me when I was 12 feet away from her that this was my chow fun. Oh, and don’t order their beef chow fun. It was the most greasy chow fun I had ever had – I couldn’t even finish it. Such a shame, since its so close to home. The taste isn’t good enough to make me want to put up with that cranky mess.

I only started to go here and have only had the clay pots. First was the sizzling chicken with bean cake(fried tofu –don’t ask me why they call it bean cake I’m not even sure) that was really good! Chicken, fried tofu, green onions, slices of ginger and a good sauce. It’s really sizzling hot when it came out, I had to hide myself from it with my napkin lol. Second I had the beef stew, not as great as my dads but enough to get the craving done and over with, to add to it tons of tendon pieces and i was extremly happy about that. Husband had the fish filet with bean cake. Fried fish filet pieces, yummy sauce and fried tofu. I love them clay pot dishes!!! These dishes should come with rice but they don’t. I saw them bring out a stir fry lobster dish and it looked fabulous! Everyone that night who saw it wanted what that birthday party got. I think the lobster is special order though. They are a bit greasy and far from me. But for good clay pot dishes my hubby and I will venture that far out. They are a small place so it does somewhat get packed during busy times, but worth the wait.

An oldie, but definitely a goody. If you’re searching for relatively authentic Chinese food in Fresno, this is your spot! Be sure to order from the Chinese menu though. I’ve been coming here since I was a child and the food has been consistent for the past 10 – 15 years(or as far back as I remember). I’d recommend the crab and fish maw soup, the fish with black bean sauce, fried spicy salt and pepper chicken waaangs, salty fish with chicken fried rice, either tomato beef clay pot or the salty fish and chicken clay pot, and stir fry long beans.

Typical hole-in-the-wall Chinese joint. Ordered what I thought was some combination chow mien to go. First thing I noticed when I got it into my car is that it smelled like anchovies. When I opened the improperly secured to-go box I discovered a bed of greasy, burned angel hair-looking pasta sitting in a lake of translucent liquid and whole bok choy and too-large, fishy, rubbery calamari pieces. Don’t waste your time… gross. My car seriously stinks right now!

I ordered take out from here and I coulda just gone to jack in the box if I wanted greasy flavorless food. The pineapple chicken tastes like sweet and sour pork with pineapple chunks. The dough is not even cooked thoroughly. The chow fun is the worst. I ordered beef but I find it pretty standard to receive some bok choy and other veggies in the mix but there was nothing but sad mushy broccolis. Disgusting!

Always great food. They have two menus and I recommend trying items from what they call the Chinese menu. The hot pots are the best! The staff is friendly and attentive and they always make you feel welcome.

We’ve ate here more times than I can count and never have been disappointed. We always order family style. 25 – 30.00 will easily fill 3 – 4 adults and 2 children. The prices are very good and lots of selection. Awesome sizzling rice soup!!!

Is there a general trend towards decreasing quality and service due to economy? We have eaten here a few times per year over the last 5 years. It used to be one of our favorites. a few months ago, it was ok. and last night. not really that good. I had three boys with me, so we were not ready to order, and asked for a few minutes. Another waitress came over, and I asked for a few minutes. Then 10 minutes later, we were approached. The Won Ton soup was good. The fried rice was lackluster, no color, minimal ingredients, and the shrimp was fishy, or should I say shrimpy? The food just had that brown and white look that seems to be found in the cheap hole in the wall places. Look at the photos associated with this place. COLOR! TASTE! SPARKLE! FRESH! This was NOT that. We ordered pot stickers, and we asked for sauce. They stated they did not have any. Not sure if they ever did. but I think some sauce for them would be nice. So I asked for vinegar, green onions, and soy sauce. It was brought to me with a bit of attitude… So I made some for the table. I love to make condiments, and my new thing is making the Thai condiments. The shopping center where the restaurant is located is all but vacant, which certainly attributes to the slower business Chinn’s Garden may be experiencing. The prices are very good. which maybe they need to be upped a little to cover costs of better ingredients. Oh, may I suggest turning down the light just a wee bit. Or offer complementary sunglasses. There was one nice waitress, and one that was just sort of: Here’s your food, here’s your damn sauce ingredients, and here’s your to go boxes. not get the hell out.(Oh wait,. here’s your bill to pay first…) I probably will not be back… So. now I need to search for a new reasonably priced Chinese restaurant that is not trying to cut too many corners. Note: All of my reviews are written with the hopes that the owners will perhaps take the comments to heart, and entertain the idea of making some improvements, and inviting me back on the house to see experience the changes!

Food: above average Service: good Setting: good Price: $ 10 – 15 Finally, a decent southern style Chinese restaurant on the north side of town. As far as the menu goes, there isn’t really thing out of the ordinary in terms of dish selection; however, the majority of the dishes served here are better than those of your average Chinese restaurant. If you decide to go, I highly recommend the fish in a clay pot dish as well as their tomato beef chow mien. The head waitress is the cook/owners wife so you’re sure to get friendly and speedy service almost every day of the week. Moreover, the restaurant is very clean and in a very safe neighborhood. If you’re looking to get your Chinese fix and reside around the woodpark area, look no further than Chinns Garden. :]
