Worst guotie I ever had, tasted frozen, Unilocal never failed me so hard. Xlb was a little better. Cucaomian was OK and not a lot of meat. Saddest Shanghainese place ever been to on Unilocal. My friends are so disappointed I switched my dinner plans to this restaurant.

The VegeGregian Review: 3.5 Stars. I came here with my buddy Derek on a Saturday for lunch at around 12pm. I arrived first and told the staff that I had a party of 2 and they acknowledged what I said and told me to wait. Very importantly I must state that staff does not speak English well. I know a little Mandarin which helped me later on when customizing my order but just be aware that if you are not ordering straight from the menu you better know what you want to customize in Mandarin otherwise it will be very difficult for you. Anyway so I thought staff knew I was waiting for a table for two so I sat on the chairs right outside of the restaurant(there are giant glass windows as walls so they could see me). I was the only one waiting for a table at the time and I waited 10 minutes. The next thing I knew staff gave up a two person table to someone who had just walked in and I was like uhh… hmmm oh well. I didn’t want to make a scene so I didn’t say anything but my point is since they don’t have any sort of number system for tables just make sure you are attentive and keeping track of who was there before you. The fooooooood: I ordered the«Three Kinds Mushroom Noodle(三菇煨面)» which was freaking DELICIOUS and the portion size was HUGE! I was starving and I still had to pack it up to go. The food didn’t take very long to come out. They were very generous with everything in the menu item: noodles, vegetables, mushrooms, and soup. The broth was very tasty, if anything slightly on the salty side but I’m a savory dude so I didn’t mind it at all. They are busy at lunch time so plan accordingly!

Yummy food. We ordered: 1. Xiao long bao aka soup dumplings 4⁄5: some of them were already broken meaning the soup was no longer in the dumplings :( 2. Shanghai Style Chow Mein 5⁄5: my favorite. If you like thick noodles and chow mein, try this! 3. Spicy Beef tongue and stomach/tripe appetizer 5⁄5: flavorful but more spicy than I’m used to I always come back for more shanghai style chow mein.

First visit was so good when we ordered the scallion pork noodle and wonton soup. Brought me back to Shanghai. Today’s visit, I decided to try something else and was disappointed. XLB was dried up, no soup at all. Potsticker was okay but fillings had no veggies. Eight favorite spicy sauce was very flavorful but way too spicy for me. The noodle soup is just right! Will come back and try other noodle soup in the future…

Walkable place from my home, my second kitchen! Sometimes, cheap and testy is all I need, and really big portion, such a good deal for lazy people and students! FYI: cash only.

I’m a veggie. I ordered a vegetable & mushroom noodle soup because the owner told me it is vegetarian. However, the soup made me uncomfortable. So I asked a waitress what’s the soup. She said:” that is chicken soup. « Oops!

Three reasons why I love Shanghai Noodle House — 1. Authentic! The owner and wait staff are Shanghainese, and they have 炒酱 chao jiang(they call it 辣酱 la jiang on their menu) — something I haven’t seen at other Bay Area Shanghainese restaurants. I only ever have it in Shanghai or when visiting Grandma. In fact, it had been so long since I had 炒酱 that when my friend first told me about this place and its 炒酱, I said, «What’s that?» Too much time away from Grandma! 2. Free pickled vegetables, peanuts, and hot tea! Last time they also gave me free soup, but I guess they figured that since I got a huge bowl of noodle soup, this time I wouldn’t need it… 3. Great value! My la jiang noodles after tax and tip only cost $ 9. I’m not a light eater and I was pretty hungry, and I was still only able to finish half my portion. The leftovers are definitely enough for a full lunch tomorrow. One thing to note — this place is cash only, but there is an ATM close by.

I’ve been craving XLB for the longest, so me and a friend decided to come here. This is a very small location so beware, there might be a wait. Luckily for us, there wasn’t but once we sat, the rush came quick. Their menu is pretty basic. They serve a lot of regular dishes you would find at a noodle/dumping house. We ordered the XLB, beef noodle soup, wontons, and some type of siew mai. Advice on the XLB, eat it while it’s still hot! It tastes completely different when it’s cold. almost not worth eating. They tasted pretty good. Good texture and good amount of soup inside. The beef noodle soup was DELICIOUS. I love noodles, and combined with beef, perfection. The wontons came in soup, and they were nice and soft. The one thing I didn’t like was the siew mai’s we ordered. They were nothing like the ones you find at dim sum, I was fooled. It had brown rice, and no meat I believe. Boo. I wouldn’t recommend that. I would come back for the beef noodle soup alone! Service was good, everyone was friendly. I would definitely come back if I was in the area and expand on the menu a bit more.

I didn’t dine in so I can’t judge their service, but it feels kind of hard to eat here if you don’t speak Chinese? Correct me if I’m wrong, but my friend ordered to go for us(in Chinese) and I just picked it up. Seems like really good prices though which is always a +++ Their pork noodles were tasty(although they look like poop on noodles LOL) but don’t let the aesthetic turn you away! But I gotta say what’s gonna make me come back is their EGGROLLS! THEYAREAMAZINGANDYOUNEEDTOGETTHEM. I don’t even know how to explain, but once you bite into them you’ll know exactly what I mean! It was definitely a surprise to me and I’m still dreaming about those damn egg rolls :(

We had the ciao ling bow, spicy beef noodles, drunken chicken, Shanghai vegetable rice, and the garlic cucumber. We liked the Shanghai rice, xiao long bow. Cucumber and the drunken chicken was so so. It seemed like they were not as fresh as they should be. The rice tastes great, and the noodles are okay. There are a lot of noodles in the beef noodle soup, but the beef was a bit tough and the noodles was standard. The xiao long bao was okay too. They tastes great but many of them were leaky so we didn’t get the pleasure of tasting the soup… Price was really good for the portion they give you. We would stay away from their appetizer and stick with their main dish.

I went here today right when it opened at 5! The Shanghai Chow Mein was delicious and less greasy than what I have had before! I also thoroughly enjoyed the dry pork noodles! Flavorful and not greasy either! I loved their dumplings and pot stickers! They’re not crispy like what other ethnicities might think they should be, but they’re pretty good. Also, service was great and very attentive. Finally, the place is a little bit small and by 6:30, there are a ton of families coming in! Definitely coming back!

With a lack of Shanghainese food in the area, I think Shanghai Noodle House does a pretty good job with their items! This is a tiny little restaurant located in south Fremont but has authentic Shanghainese food. What to get: nooooooooodles. My family really likes to get the noodles with fish dish(something like«fen yu mian») and beef noodle soup(牛肉麵). The last time I was here, I tried the sesame and peanut dry noodle(I think it was 麻醬麵). The dry noodle was delicious; there was no meat in it, but they gave portions that could feed 5 people. I was left with the option of taking it home, and even after doing that, I consumed it for another three meals. I also liked their egg rolls. They literally«roll out» piping hot and ready to burn your tongue, so be careful when you take a bite! If you dip this with the black vinegar, it is literally like heaven. I think they use some sort of Chinese cabbage, what looks to be mushrooms(but are not distinguishable), and pork, which creates a tasty Shanghainese egg roll that you might not be used to! Lastly, my favorite thing is that the prices are so cheap here! One noodle dish is guaranteed to be less than $ 10, making it a good place to munch lunch on!

Meh. Pretty sure my parents ordered the wrong things seeing as this place is called a noodle house and we ordered a lot of non-noodle dishes. Everything we had was just average at best, but fell short of most Chinese restaurants for the most part. Not sure if I’d return. noodles didn’t look that great either, to be honest. –SHANGHAISTYLEPORKFRIEDRICE — greasy –CHINESECRESSWITHRICECAKE — greasy –FUQIFEIPIAN(sliced beef, tongue and tripe in chili oil) — usually a dish I like, but their version didn’t taste quite the same –CHINESEGREENWITHDRYTOFU — unexpectedly my favorite dish, maybe because it tasted a lot lighter in comparison to the other oily dishes –PIGEAR — average –ZHENJIANGSTYLESALTEDPORK — incredibly salty

Hubby and I came here last week, on our quest for xiao long bao… We were seated in the back of the restaurant by the bathrooms, so everyone kept walking by… Our food was ok, we ordered cold fried fish, salted duck, shanghai noodles and xiao long bao… it was ok, would recommend if you are close by…

This is a pretty solid option for spicy beef noodle soup in Fremont… I havent tried every place here, this is definitely my favorite(ever since QQ noodle shut down… of which I still havent fully recovered, but yeah). The broth is flavorful and spicy, but not so spicy that you’d be in pain. Vegetables are fresh and the portion of noodles is pretty generous(but they are thin enough to soak in the flavor thoroughly). The beef is good and you get alot of it, but I definitely prefer QQs fatty, tender pieces to the kind they have here– the pieces are more on the tougher/thick cut side. But then again, its not bad, its just a matter of preference. Also, this place doesnt serve fresh pulled noodles, but thats not a deal breaker for me. If they had everything in this bowl but the same beef from QQs version, this would be a 5 star in my book. Its also super cheap and enough to feed me over two meals. Note– looks like they stopped serving complimentary tea eggs. Meh. Also, cash only

I’m on a mission to find the best Xiao Long Bao(Soup Dumplings) in the Bay Area. I absolutely XLB! I drove all the way from San Jose just because I was craving them. LOCATION: Small Strip Mall in the corner of Fremont Ave, plenty of parking SERVICE: Not the best but they were pretty busy! We weren’t greeted right away, we actually had to go to the counter. They don’t really speak English here at all but don’t let that scare you away. The food definitely makes up for it. ATMOSPHERE: Seems a little cramped and tables are kinda close together. Maybe about 10 – 12 tables? MENU: They have dim sum, plenty of different noodle soups, and appetizers. They give you a paper where you can mark what you want to order and the amount next to the item. Very straightforward and typical of what you would see at dim sum restaurants. Don’t let the menu scare you away because it is all in Chinese lol and then they give you another menu that has a number and description in English words. Just make sure you order the right ones lol FOOD: Came out pretty fast tbh. Less than 10 min. We ordered: –3x XLB(skin not too thick, perfect amount of soup and meat, ugh so delicious) –1 order or potstickers(very tasty, had a nice crisp and brown color) –1 dry noodle soup with pork and onions(didn’t get to try this but my brother devoured it lol) PRICE: Pretty cheap in my opinion. One order of XLB included 8 Dumplings for 5 something. Definitely recommend this place! Don’t be intimated by the language barrier or non-English menu lol the food makes up for it! You won’t be disappointed! :D

Food was tasty and portions were generous but it’s just way too oily. Our potstickers and chow mein were literally sitting in a pool of oil, not sure if I can deal with that. Employees were nice though.

Boy oh boy! I am glad my sister was persistent on taking me and my brother to this place after work. I was feeling a bit under the weather, and definitely did not have an appetite to eat. But when I came in and saw all the big bowls of noodles and steaming soups, my appetite came roaring back. I did notice they reuse their paper menus, and the way to order is like what you would do at a dim sum restaurant. You get a 1⁄3 size paper with the list of the menu items, and you write down next to the item how many of each you would like. Then the lady sweeps by and picks it up! BEWARE: Some English and Chinese don’t match up, so you might want to be careful in ordering if you have any allergies/picky food habits. We ordered: –1 order of green beans in pickled sauce //not your normal edamame! It has been marinated in some type of cooking wine sauce, and is cool and refreshing. Definitely a great starter! –1 order of sliced beef and ox tongue in chili sauce //DANG. My siblings who can handle spicy, were begging for water when they ate this. Such a good kick, and definitely lingering flavors on your tongue! –1 bowl of vegetable and pork noodle soup //Thick noodles, with lots of bokchoy on top and pork bits throughout. It was the first dish that came up, and I was already decently impressed. But then I eventually started playing favorites with other noodle soups. –1 bowl of preserved vegetables with pork noodle soup //Not what we had ordered, but ended up being a favorite at our table. Accidental surprise? If you want the preserved vegetables, definitely get this bowl! The thin noodles were so yummy, chewy, soft and fresh. Soup was a bit«sour» but definitely felt like a good hangover soup(if you have one, of course). –1 bowl of spicy pork wonton soup //So… I guess that’s how SHanghainese people eat it– miniture wontons/dumplings with barely any filling? The soup was spicy and tasteful, but the wontons were meh. I wouldn’t order this again. –1 bowl of dry fried garlic and shredded pork //not sure if this is the exact name, but look for something with garlic and dry noodles with amazing sauce? THISISIT, PEOPLE’S. This was my favorite out of all the dishes because the garlic flavor was YUMMY and got me coming back for more! Pros: –Amazing price! Our meal would have been under $ 25 for 3 people if we didn’t accidentally order another dish(#noregrets). SOOOO looking for cheap, hole-in-the-wall place? This is it! –Quick service! We had waited only about 10 – 15 minutes before our dishes all came. They are quick in that there is never a line waiting out the door– they are able to get people in and out fairly quick! –Good variety! I was amazed at the Noodle dishes… definitely beats the other Shanghai noodle place I went to!(Maybe I should update that review…) Cons: –So…there was a bug in our soup. I won’t say which one, but there was a large looking caterpillar in our dish. We didn’t want to ask for a refund because the dishes were already so cheap. Hopefully no one else has experienced the same problem! Tips/Observations: –CASHONLY. Seriously. –You can call in for togo! Though I feel like waiting for a togo is going to be longer than dining in… –Beware of their sass(if you speak Mandarin). Overall, I would come here again! This place reminds me of a street vendor in China, but in an indoor location. No AC, but that’s what makes this place so authentic since you can enjoy your food while it’s piping hot.

2015 is off to a very good start! My family and I were in Fremont today and my mom wanted Shanghaiese noodles for dinner. So I pulled out my phone, Google’d «Shanghai noodle Fremont», and out came Shanghai Noodle House. We got there at around 5:30pm and the 10-table restaurant was already pretty busy. Fortunately they still had a table for us. Had we gotten there 10 minutes later, we would have to wait quite a while for a table. Tea and complementary appetizers(pickled cabbage and salted peanuts) were brought to us immediately. After checking out their order sheet, we ordered the following items: — Xiao Long Bao(8 for $ 5.95) — Shanghaiese Potstickers(8 for 5.95) — Fu Qi Fei Pian(sliced beef shank, beef tongue, and tripe in chili oil, $ 5.45) — Pork and Shrimp Wonton Soup($ 6.25) — Spicy Beef Noodle Soup($ 7.95) — Shrimp and Green Onion Noodles($ 6.25) The dim sum items came out first. The XLBs were quite good. The pork filling was tasty and juicy. The only knock on them was the skin. It was a little too thick in my opinion. But nonetheless, they were delicious. The potstickers were excellent. They were plump and browned perfectly on the bottom. Again, the pork filling was great. Fu Qi Fei Pian arrived at our table after the dim sum items. Their version was above average. Sliced beef shank, beef tongue, and tripe swam in chili oil and topped with quite a bit of chopped cilantro. The spiciness wasn’t too overwhelming, as I was still able to notice the beefiness of the meats. The trio of soup and noodle dishes soon followed. The pork and shrimp wonton soup definitely warmed my stomach. They were served in a large bowl a chicken soup garnished with seaweed and julienned egg crêpe. The pork/shrimp ratio was 50⁄50. I liked the fact that they used whole shrimps instead of ground shrimp. The spicy beef noodle soup was superb! The noodles were fresh and chewy, the chunks of beef shank were braised to perfection, and the soup was spicy and hot! Oh, the shrimp and green onion noodles was very authentic. My mom is a real Shanghaiese food connoisseur with high standards and even she was impressed! The service we received was quite good. The servers were very polite and quick to act on our requests. We had no problem finding parking on site. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall. I highly recommend Shanghai Noodle House to everyone! P. S. Did I mention the portions were humongous? :-P
