Dosa Hut… how deceptive your name is… With such a name, I’d expect high quality or at least bigger dosas than we received. We ordered a paper dosa set I believe, with idly and vada. But, it could have almost been a kids meal portion to us. We also ordered samosas as appetizers, but they came out way late! I’m talking about 30 minutes late and well after we finished our dosas. Now, with such anticipation building up, you would expect a delicious, incredible, winner of a samosa, but it was such as sad experience! It was super crumbly and fell apart. We were super desperate for dosas at the time since everywhere, dosas weren’t being made until 5:30. But, we now know better to trek elsewhere and to not settle for less! Bah :(

This is a hidden gem. I would stick with south indian dishes — dosa, idli, combo, thali etc. We’ve ordered bhatura-chole and it was not that great, same with pav-bhaji. I think their dosas are really good — paper dosa(or whatever it is called — the big dosa) was the bomb. Service is pretty good — you place the order at the counter and food comes to the table. You get food fairly quickly. So for no non-sense, get straight to the business south indian food — Dosa hut is a pretty good choice. So much better than Saravana Bhavan’s horrendously slow and inattentive service. It does get quite busy and its a small joint but I’ve never had to wait for a table. I’ve eaten here multiple times now in the last month or so. Definitely recommend it.

Went here on a dosa hunt because for some odd reason, most places don’t serve them until after 5:30pm. I ordered the combo 2 with the plain dosa, the idly and vada; the idly and vada were decent, but nothing extraordinary. The dosa, however, was kind of a disappointment. Firstly, the dosa was extremely thin and smaller than expected; I would probably have to eat 5 of them to get anywhere close to full. Along with the dosa, I ordered samosas. Besides taking more than half an hour to get them, the cashier greeted me with a «yeah?» When I inquired about them. The samosas tasted okay, but the shell looked like someone punched before handing it to us. Overall rating: 2⁄5 for the service and 2.5÷5 for the food.

I like this place too much because food is so yummy and tasty. They have authentic south Indian food but everything is so tasty along with that prices are pretty much reasonable and affordable for students too. I will recommended this place specially those who like South Indian food or very fond off south Indian food. Guys once surely try this place for any thing. They have very good and enough menu with great quality. Apurva

Items ordered — Pesarattu, Paper Dosa, Idli Vada and Masala Dosa. All the three dosas were not crisp and they lacked the fresh ingredients taste. Idli was bearable. Vada lacked crispiness. Pricy for the quality they offer.

Bad customer service, below average food, ok interiors. There are many better options in The area. Try to avoid this place. There is no life in food and in the face of owner who stood behind the counter. I hope they add some quality to the food and customer service.

Food is good, but very rude service. They should get better at this. Employees at this place better stop showing their frustration at people.

Its actually 3.5 stars. Good authentic South Indian food with fair prices for everything. Half star cut is due to the recent experience. I have ordered Panner Burji Dosa. It had very less Paneer. It was more of sprinkling of paneer. I have tried Paneer Burji Dosa at other local(Go Chaatz/Dosa Palace) which has plenty of paneer and great taste. Overall I am on happier side for different combos and dosa. I will keep coming in here however will avoid Paneer Burji Dosa ;).

They don’t have wide variety of items in their menu. But most of them tastes pretty good. Pongal n Sambar vada is just out of the world. Priced at a very nominal rate, this place is a bang for your buck. One negative point about this place is the parking availability esp in the peak hours. My verdict is: very decent dinner or evening snack place for a nominal rate.

Dosa Hut is one of the few places that sustains well purely on the taste & quality of food, which is always consistent. Popular in serving finest South Indian dishes in an unembellished atmosphere, located conveniently in the Gateway Plaza of Paseo Padre Pkwy, opposite to the recently opened Cine Grand movie theater. Their Combo plates offers a great deal, fills up your tummy perfectly, doesn’t get you overloaded. Was here with the Hubby couple of weeks back to grab our lunch, comfortably seated inside. This was our second time visiting the restaurant, always a decent place to make a quick dine-in or good for to-go’s as the space inside is small. Our order this time, # Idly-Vada-Dosa(1 in each), Combo 1($ 5.49) — Excellent! Comes with Sambar & Chutneys as sides. Although coconut chutney was a hitch, yet every flavor was delightfully tasteful with appropriate softness & crispiness. # Madras Parottas(comes in pair), Combo 7($ 5.49) — This was outstanding & Worth every penny! Comes with Vegetable Kurma & Raita as sides(we opted kurmas over raita, as my husband loves kurmas). Flawless combo with no big complaints in taste. Cooked well & felt fresh. We ended our meal with Masala Tea($ 1.29) & Madras Coffee($ 1.79) from their beverages menu. Both had strong local flavors, faithful to authenticity. Overall, who doesn’t want to relish their native tastes and flavors with such an authentic-inexpensive menu?! Whether a fine dining or not doesn’t really matter as long as our taste buds approve and gets us back to the place again and again!!!

A place mostly for take away’s Price for quality: satisfactory Things that I liked: love their Thali, Sambar, and masala dosa Suggestions: Probably they should work on Cleanliness and also try to smile when speaking to customers coz Smile costs nothing :) Anyways it’s a to go place for early morning Indian breakfast. I hardly know any Indian restaurant that opens by 7 am everyday. So full points to that.

Specialists of the South Indian dosa, as their name eludes itself. Big stuffing vegetarian crepes made of rice batter and black lentils. When it comes to everything else on their menu, they are decent at it. Class act Chai Tea over Mango Lassi. Next to Raley’s supermarket down the recessed walkway. #cheapeats

Good authentic South Indian food with fair prices for everything. For the uninitiated — when you enter there aren’t any instructions on how to be seated — order and pay at the cashier… they give you a number and you pick a table to sit at — like Panera. Food is very good quality. I had the Masala Dosa, Paneer Dosa and a bit of a customized Paneer Masala Dosa(not on the menu). Masala Dosa — Nice flaky crêpe with savory potatoe filling. Paneer Dosa — Nice flaky crêpe with savory cottage cheese filling. Paneer Masala Dosa — Had the masala filling(savory potatoe filling) and savory cottage cheese in the crêpe. Masala Chai — The milk tea had good body and flavor. Not as full bodied as doodh patti but still good. Masala flavor is not overpowering. Must try for first cuppa of the day!

I’ve never walked through the alley near Raleys until the other day when I needed to pick up my husband from Bart. Lucky for us we stopped here to take home dinner. We didn’t want to eat there because the baby was being fussy. I loved eating dosas when I was pregnant and working in SF but I haven’t found anything good, cheap, and fast in Fremont(even with all our options) until now. We are going to be regulars here. Sorry to the cashier for having to explain south indian food to my husband at the check out! Clean, busy but still fast, and packed up our to go very well so it wasn’t soggy when we got home.

We went here on a saturday morning. They were quite busy but we ordered and found a place to sit. Got the masala dosa and chana bhatura. Both food items were pretty good and moderately spicy. The bhatura was so soft. The manager did inform us that the bhatura(deep fried bread) would take about 20minutes to cook because it is a fried item and they are really busy, and it did. He suggested coming in around 7am to get the bhaturas quicker. Overall, tasty food, good service. Wish the tables were a bit spaced out for privacy and comfort.

Delicious dosas! I ordered Paneer Dosa($ 7.99) and Patotta($ 2.99), but they messed up my order and gave me Veggie Kothu Parotta($ 7.99) instead. I decided to try it anyway. I was expecting more paneer, but it’s crumbled and spread thin in the dosa. The outter edges of the dosa area light and crispy and the paneer filling is very flavorful. There are 3 dipping sauces: a warm curry-like sauce(it has a kick to it), a red sauce(chili like, but mild) and a chilled coconut chutney. My favorite was mixing the curry and red sauce together. Kothu Parotta is minced flaky parotta(layered flat bread) with veggies. I think if Indian food had stuffing this would be it. It is very flavorful and has carrots, peas and other veggies. Served with raita and curry on the side. Since this dish is quite spicy the coolness of the raita helps to calm down the spices in your mouth. Overall, tasty food and quick service. I’d come back if I was in the area.

Been wanting to try it since it’s so close by work. A co-worker recommended to me and ordered the Thali Mini. Warning, it serves up to 2 – 3 people! Would come back here again and order something smaller lol!

This review is long overdue! I have been coming to this place very often in the past 3 years. Best dosa in town, hands down! The Ghee paper roast is my favorite one. The sambhar that accompanies is one of the best tasting sambhar I have ever eaten. Also the idlies are super soft and good. The other good dishes are mini fried idly, Parotta and Pongal. The coffee is pretty good as well. It is more of a hole in the wall spot, so don’t expect a great ambiance. Good food with decent prices.
