A favorite burger place since I was 5. Order the Special. Original was in Freeport and Island Park. Glad to see them back. 100 times better than any In-N-Out burger.

If you grew up on the south shore of Long Island in the sixties, it’s a good chance you knew of this hamburger joint on N Main St in Freeport. It had one hell of a burger. The sauce was top secret, protected by the guy behind the grill with his 38special strapped on his hip in clear sight. I guess it was a tough neighborhood even back then. Through time it has come and gone in a couple of locations and has never been quite duplicated. It now has been resurrected at its current location. And the Ranger special has been revitalized to «almost» perfection. Although you’ll find some adaptations to other tastes, the Ranger burger, unadulterated, is King. Thanks for continuing my childhood favorite…

This place is a hidden gem in Freeport. Anyone who has grown up on the South Shore of Nassau county knows about the famous«Ranger burger» with its coleslaw/secret sauce and juicy goodness. Years ago it was served by the original Texas ranger, then after they went under, and years went by without it, another place«waterlillys café» brought it back. This was a number of years ago, on the nautical mile, they too went under, and now this legendary burger is back and better than ever! This burger joint is the last good thing Freeport has to offer…

Best burger joint around! Two min drive from the Nautical mile and reasonable prices too!

So glad it’s back! The Texas Ranger was a family staple growing up — my dad went to school with Perry Pappas so he was a loyal patron. Finally made it down there and we could not believe how spot on the Ranger burgers are! I’m laughing at the folks complaining about the size of the burger or how there is cole-slaw on the burgers, but that is exactly how they’ve always been. My husband, who had never had a Ranger burger before, thought it was fantastic. My sister ordered a turkey burger with cheddar and grilled onions(one of the many FREE toppings) and she said it was delicious! Even the fries were good — they come from real potatoes(skins still on) and they were nice & crisp! Danny(one of the owners) was beyond friendly and let us try the lamb burger that was being added to the menu the next day. It was fantastic! We wish Danny and his team nothing but good luck. We will definitely be back!

We have had a recurring problem with incorrect orders. One night we ordered burgers for 5 people. My order was correct, everyone else’s order was wrong. In fact, the other 4 were just slight variations of my order. One person got jalapeños on her burger that she didn’t order as she is allergic to them! I’m done with them.

Great burger place close by! Their onion rings are pretty good. I’m so happy to have a good burger spot close to home and it’s priced right:)

Only had chili but it was good. A throwback from my childhood. The original Texas Ranger was in my hometown of Island Park!

Ate there twice so far, the burgers are good, weird they don’t have a few suggestions on what toppings to put on. I’d rather go to burger-fi or five guys down the road. There cheaper and definitely a little better. I mean $ 3.79 for fries? If you get a burger fries and a drink it comes to like 13 bucks, $ 6 bacon cheeseburger, 4 $ fries and 3 $ drink(little do they know that the glass Pepsi bottles they sell are sold around the block at compare supermarkets for 75 cents apiece .) Overall good if your in the area but if you have 10 more min hit up something else

New resident of Long Island. Must say this place is neatly tuck away on Bayview ave. If you’re not paying attention you’ll drive right passed it. The Texas Ranger more then Burgers, Chili definitely carry more. I had the«Ranger Burger» topped with shredded cabbage, tomato, onion, Special sauce, and seasonings. Order of Onion rings., that came in a cup. How Classic is that. Unless refills on your favorite beverage. Staffing was very pleasant. Atmosphere is cozy.

Driving down Atlantic Avenue in Freeport some months back, my wife let out a little shriek of joy when she saw the sign for«Texas Ranger» being lifted into place. She informed me how the Texas Ranger was a staple of childhood and she was so hoping it was going to be the same as she’d remembered. Always up for a burger joint, I gleefully volunteered to get takeout. We both ordered the Ranger Burger, fries and I got a Chili w/Cheese. The Chili was good, but not too flavorful. The Burger was buried under a mountain of Cole-Slaw, which I understand is a thing and was listed on the menu, but it’s just not for me. The fries were good, but not as good as Five Guys or BurgerFi. Overall, it was an average burger experience that may be improved(at least in my estimation) by forgoing the coleslaw topping.

Wow the flavor brought me back ! Yumm! The only thing is the sauce was not mixed into the cole slaw like I remember. It was placed on top of cole slaw and the cole slaw was dry beneath. But it was still delicious !!!

Wanted to check out the hype so while getting my hair done down the block at Salon Tique which btw is an awesome little spot i grabbed a burger ff and chili to go. The cashier was beyond friendly and nice. The place was pretty clean and kinda busy. I waited about 5 mins or so and it was 10 $. I got home and ate it and it was pretty good. i didn’t get the special sauce because i don’t like cole slaw but the burger was just ok. The ff were fine and the chili was good to but super greasy which is ok by me. It was nothing memorable but still decent meal if in area. Ill hold out for shake shack next time. But i would def go back for a chili dog.

Love it! Great burgers, Chilli, fries ect. I can’t believe people are complaining about the prices since it’s real food unlike McD’s ect. It costs around the same as 5 guys or jakes Wayback but imo it’s much better! Hopefully they’ll open one closer to me soon!

For what they charge… Something will have to change! 3.79 for frozen fries? 4.29 for a burger with cole slaw on it 10 bucks plus with a soda… My first vsit and very average and the food just ok 28.50 for 4 burgers and 2 fries… no sodas. Yikes!

I was so looking forward to writing a 5-star review of the long-anticipated opening of an iconic Freeport family busintess. Sadly, the food was sub-par in all ways. We ordered a Ranger Burger, which is house cole slw and tomato with a burger on a roll. That was so-so, saved only by the slaw. The regular hamburgers were bland and completely unremarkable. The french fries were cold.(after only a 1 minute drive) In adition, the fries were tasteless. The only things that saved a 1-star review was the cleanliness and the friendly staff. I won’t be back for quite awhile, if they stay open at all. I sure hope that they get their act together in a hurry. We went at 6:00 pm and the plave was relatively empty.

I always like to support the local stores and when I found out they were opening a burger joint a short distance from home I really welcomed the idea. It’s called The Texas Ranger but I doubt that Chuck Norris would approve of it. The prices are exorbitant, about double of a typical fast food restaurant and the sizes are tiny small for the value. The food is very greasy to the point that the carry-out brown paper bags get easily stained. This is the worst chili I’ve ever had, a lump of salty minced meat floating on oil, no beans or tomato sauce and it’s served in a small old-fashioned styrofoam cup… really disgusting. The burgers are diminutive and undercooked. For my taste I rather have a delicious Wendy’s chili, the McDonald’s crispy fries and a flavorful Burger King’s big whopper and for half the price.

I remember this place from back in the day. You used to get a special for 25 cents. Years later the special is $ 4.29. What a difference years make. The cooks are some of the same folks. I pray the taste is the same. Yummy

I went with my wife to lunch at the Texas Ranger. It was very crowded as it seems people would like to try out the food. We ordered two burgers a chili and a French fry. Service was about as quick as can be hoped for considering the crowd overwhelmed the kitchen staff. The food was ok but not great. The burgers has great ingredients(maybe a little too much sauce) but seemed small considering the price. The chili was ok but not the best I have ever had and lacked beans as well as being quite greasy The fries were OK. The owners were among the most accommodating nicest people I have seen in this type of restaurant The price to value ratio here is slightly below average for this type of restaurant. All in all this was an OK experience but nothing to write home about.

Finally! The sign has been in the place for months so anticipation has been tough .its new so its packed. Ordering was easy, waiting for food not so much. Its a get your ticket wait to hear your number system. Not out of the ordinary but not organized either. My order got called way after a few people that ordered much after me. Its new so ill give them pass to work things out. The ranger burger was good. Have heard about this special sauce forever. Sauce was ok. The chili? Unbelievable! I could eat a gallon.
