We are new to the area and found this place on Unilocal,the fried pickles are awesome! The service was great and if you leave here hungry it is your fault lol, everything was cooked to perfection, I had the blackened catfish and my husband had a steak with shrimp.

Thank you Batman for taking such great care of our party of 12 ! You made the evening even more satisfying to go along with the excellent fried oysters, perfectly prepared Ribeye and delicately fried shrimp. Everything we all ordered was delicious! The mustard greens were excellent as were the hushpuppies plus can’t forget all the appetizers. An amazing evening made all the more special with such prompt attentive service from the bar and Batman! Thank you ALL for sharing in our festivities and enjoying our humor!

Loved it! No regrets coming here. I really enjoyed my server, wish i remembered her name. Got the fried catfish, salad, mashed potatoes, greens (okay), hush puppies (over cooked) and their cocktail of the day.

Me and my family has a lovely lunch here. The fried pickles were delicious!!! We all had fried catfish and shrimp which was great, the coleslaw is to die for, and the peach cobbler was the ace in the hole. You HAVE to have pickles and cobbler if you go. Our waiter Freddy also provided great service!

I went to this place late at the end of my mini road trip Saturday evening. The fried pickles and the cornbread are amazing. The rest of our meal was good. I would say better than most seafood places. Perhaps my meal and service would have been better earlier in the day. The service was very nice but slow. Even though the server was nice and kept apologizing, at the end of a mini 60 mile road trip, you just want to enjoy a meal and get on your way. I will say the mixed drinks look very appealing and I would have tried some had I not had a 60 mile drive a head of me. I will definitely be coming back the next time and try something else on the menu.

Menu is misleading, portions aren’t enough, food is crappy and frozen, some food was cold, ‘grilled veggies’ are definitely out of a bag. Stuffed shrimp was good but still probably frozen and premade.
Not good. Gross. Stomach hurts now.

We decided to come here for my aunt’s birthday because she wanted to go down to the beach. She and the rest of my family had been to this restaurant before many times but not recently (within the past 3 – 5 years). I was really excited because they hyped it up and said that it was «the absolute BEST seafood».
Unfortunately, I was not impressed and either was my family. They were pretty disappointed actually since they had been there many times before; they all agreed that the place and food was just not the same.
The food was nothing special, especially for the price. For a place located near water, you would think that the seafood would be superb. Our waiter was nice though, he brought my aunt a piece of birthday cheesecake!
But overall, I think if you decide to eat here you will be let down… I sure was. And it’s «just not what it used to be» apparently.

me and my family have been coming to this restaurant for over 7 years and it’s not the same. The quality is not as good and portion sizes seem to have gotten smaller.

Nice little country family restaurant. Absolutely loved the fresh seafood. Their cornbread, coleslaw, and fried dill pickle chips were also delicious. We really enjoyed Pirogue punch cocktails with our dinner also. Would definitely return. Recently moved to town and this place is great!

We have eaten at this place many years ago and it was one of the best places to eat. However this wasn’t the case today.
The server we had was new I will give her a curve on that. The service was slow and the food we ordered was Lukewarm when we got it. Never got the cornbread that they give out to all table. The server didn’t have a clue what was on the menu and I blame the manager for this

The food was served in huge portions and there was a bright spot here and there. The fried shrimp were great. Just enough breading and seasoning. Tried the chicken fried steak, the breading there was a little bland, so was the gravy. It wasn’t bad just nothing great. Chose garlic mash as a side, it was super heavy on the garlic, little heavy on the cream as well. The salad, just don’t order the salad. Also sampled the cobbler, it’s solid worth a try.

My wife and I ate here 5÷2÷2015. Everything was terrible. The flounder was from Canada, the shrimp from Louisiana, and the rest a mystery to our waiter. This place is walking distance from a large shrimp and fishing fleet and does not have Texas sourced sea food. The shrimp were very small, I guess 25 to a pound. The corn bread was made of mostly flour and was sweet. Good Texas corn bread is 100% corn meal and does not have sugar. Nothing about our visit was good. The wine list has Woodbridge Chardonnay but the wine that was served was not it. It was a very watery poor excuse for a chard. I challenged the waiter and he took it off the bill.
This is a do not try place. They did not offer comp fried pickles so I can’t comment on them.

I came here for lunch and the food was great. I had a grilled shirmp salad with a cup of soup. The shirmp was freshly prepared with a good seasoning. The salad was also fresh with good veggie selections. I recommend this place for lunch and dinner.

Average at best. Food very greasy. Waitstaff not very attentive. Had to ask for drink refills more than once. Our party ordered 4 seafood platters and they were all missing the catfish fillets. When we told the waitress (because she obviously didn’t notice), she said that the cook was new and didn’t know what he was doing. The stuffed crab was the smallest I’ve seen in my life. This place is definitely not worth the prices

Came here on a late Saturday evening with two colleagues. the food was really delicious, the service great and prices fair.
had the gumbo as starter, what can i say, delicious.
the free appetizer on the house was also great — self made corn bread and cole slaw.
then had rib-​eye with shrimps and grilled veggies. steak was perfectly cooked medium rare as requested, very juicy and delicious. sides also decent.
one colleague had sirloin with shrimps, also perfectly cooked steak and sides.
the other had grilled crawfish, same thing, declicious.
on top of this shiner bock from tap, what else could u want.
did not expect such great restaurant in Freeport, but I always like being positively surprised.

I’m in a hurry, but I will say service was impeccable. Food was delicious. I had the gumbo and it tasted like a good homemade gumbo. my father had the chicken fried chicken and the portion seemed small compared to other restaurants but it had a nice flaky crust and then chicken was moist and cooked just right. Cole slaw and onion rings were also very good compared to other restaurants. I would definitely recommend and attend again.
Oh and I definitely loved the iron skillet cornbread!

We came here for lunch after our friend really talked up the chicken fried steak and the fried pickles. I don’t know whether my expectations were set too high or if that kind of food isn’t for me but I was pretty disappointed in both those dishes. The pickles could have been fried better, they were soggy and the steak was really bland and dry, even with the gravy on top.
Where I was pleasantly surprised was the coleslaw. I never really had coleslaw that i liked before theirs. Its much creamier and sweeter than the coleslaw I’ve had before. Their cornbread was great too.
Maybe if I had gotten a different entrée I could give them a higher rating.
