Freeland Shell Station

Best burger south of Coupeville.

They must have upgraded the burgers and fries. These are great especially from a gas station. Actually kind of addictive. I went there about 4 years ago and I remember them being good but nothing out of the ordinary. Tried it recently and it was fantastic. Nice staff and they had all the sauces you could ever want. I’m a dipping type of person. Good fries and onion rings! And the gas prices keep dropping too!

Best Fish ‘n Chips ever … and it is my personal quest to eat FnC whenever it’s served. It’s a gas station … food mart — that has a «grill» inside. I would never have thought to order the FnC’s here if it hadn’t been for a recommendation. Well — I can say without a doubt — best FnC recommendation ever.
Recently I was up there with my daughter and grand-​son. She had been hearing me rave about their FnC’s for years — and on our way down and off the island — I stopped for her to try them.
JACKPOT! She couldn’t believe it — she agreed — best ever!
What makes them so good? We discussed this while waiting at the Clinton Ferry Terminal — and this is what we both agreed we enjoyed about them.
1. Fresh fish — this is not fishy or off colored.
2. great batter — it’s not too thick or thin and it is very crispy so it stands up to the tartar and malt vinegar. It’s not a beer batter and it’s NOT greasy.
3. size — 3 large pieces — which you think might not be enough — but believe me they are filling.
4. awesome tartar sauce and malt vinegar comes standard — meaning you don’t have to ask for it.
5. french fries that appear to be freshly cut and are crispy on the outside and tender and fluffy on the inside. Again — hot = fresh!
It’s a very nice, clean gas station both outside and inside. There is a decent seating area if you want to eat inside — there are nice picnic style tables outside when the weather is nice — or you can get it to go either by walking inside and ordering — or using their drive through.
Boy — I wish I knew how they do it — my mouth is watering for some FnC’s from this place right now!
Be the Fish ‘n Chips envy of the Universe!

I’ve used this Shell station for gasoline, diesel, beer/​wine, and miscellaneous convenience items. Like all gas-​stations on south Whidbey, the fuel prices are higher than the mainland, but this is expected. Otherwise, multiple pumps (but only one diesel) makes this station easy and available; likewise, the location is central and convenient. The decent selection of various items makes this an easy off-​hour alternative to Payless, and the store section is clean and presentable. Overall, my go-​to station in Freeland.

Its crazy to write a food review for a gas station burger stand but, hey — these burgers are the best on the south end of Whidbey Island. The food takes forever but they prepare it to order so your fries are always hot and crispy and your burger is sizzling. The milkshakes are also hand dippped and made with a blender to order.
Inside they have a taco/​burrito bar, which is pretty good, too. The full burrito is as big as a baby and cheap!

This is one place you have to stop and get some fuel. No not for the car, you!

Along with chicken burgers. Yes I have eaten at Tommy’s, Five Guys, In and Out, the Original McDonald’s in LA. Yeah even at the Hamburger Hamlet and yes the Habit Hamburgers.
The paddy is hand made with onions pickles on a toasted bun. I had the BOM which is a combo of bacon, onion, Swiss, and mushrooms .Wow! Our two dogs got a plain hamburger and it was grilled to perfection. don’t be in hurry, they make it for you!

I will keep coming back after beach walks for a quick bite of food to take on the go to the ferry!!!
They always make sure your puppy is taken care of, when at the drive up window.
They’re grilled cheese sandwiches are amazing. Made with tomato and bacon.
The customer service is always great.
Do not forget to try their shakes!
Always a monthly or weekly special, but my favorite is Chocolate Banana!

Three words: Chicken Bacon Swiss. Best «burger» at Shell Shack.
The fries are sometimes awesome, sometimes so-​so– depends on how fresh they are, I guess.
Overall, excellent «fast food» in Freeland.
