This place is a really great find. Excellent food, good drink. A nice little Fredericksburg hole in the wall type of place. Excellent wing night special too!

Have been to sunken well multiple times for brunch and dinner. The food is always awesome unless your there for wing night. Wing night can be hit on miss, sometimes you get half hot wings and the other flavor is cold. Sadly there always short staffed. Therefore leaving the staff rude and annoyed. This place has such great potential, just wish the staff was better.

Zero stars. Worst crap in Fredericksburg. The waitress told the owner that we didn’t like our meal. He came out of the kitchen like some psycho path and starting arguing with us. Unbelievable! The food was cold, fries weren’t even fries. Flies all over the walls. Under staffed. My sons grilled cheese made him vomit. If you have a grain of sense at all, you’ll stay clear of this rats nest Since my visit, I’ve had a chance to tell this story to friends and family. All have said similar things about this place. Service is terrible, food is dreadful, and the owner was a rude inconsiderate prick. Their words, not mine. However, he was the same to me. Very weird guy, disturbing guy actually. I had to ask him to please control himself because I had my 9 year old son with me. Glad to know that I’m not the only one that thought this place was a step above a backyard dumpster. I won’t be ever going back, and I plan on telling everyone I see, including posting it to my thousands of friends on Facebook. Thanks for reading. Go at your own risk.

Unpretentious bar/restaurant with friendly service. The sandwiches are not to missed but make sure you bring your appetite as they are large. The grilled cheese is nothing special but the tomato & basil soup is delicious. If you bring the kids, there is no printed menu but they do offer a few reduced size portions of food on the menu(chicken fingers, burger and grilled cheese). The dining room is small but they do accept reservations so plan ahead.

My fiancé and I went here for dinner the tonight and and while the food was tasty, the service was terrible. Over all, the servers where polite but it tooks 40 mins for someone to take our order. After we finished our food, it took another 30 mins for them to ask if we where done. We ended up spending 2 hours here for 2 glasses of water, a BBQ chicken sandwich, and the Kung Pao sprouts. To be fair, there seemed to be some confusion with the servers, they didnt seem to know who our actual server was. In the end, the bus girl brought us our food and we only saw the servers for the order and for the bill. I would recommend this place but be aware, the service may be lacking.

The sign advertised brunch til 2:00. What it meant was just breakfast served. Steak & eggs came with small order of hash browns. No toast, was told for $ 1.99 I could have toast. Ordered medium rare, & small piece was well done, thicker piece was medium. Didn’t have any type of steak sauce. With tax & tip spent over $ 16.00 for the worst breakfast in memory. Wouldn’t eat here again if someone treated.

Good food for brunch. Great variety. and casual, relaxed atmosphere. Ifbyou cant decide on what you want try the corned beef hash. It is one of their staples and you cant go wrong with it. Call the night before to make a reservation because it fills up fast

The people here are super awesome, and they have great specials going on throughout the week. I got the kung pao brussels sprouts for dinner and they were amazing! I hear they have an awesome trivia night on Wednesdays, but I’m sad that I missed it this week. We will be back soon!

Just blah. Food was underwhelming and not worth mentioning. The floors inside of the establishment were dirty.

I had a great girls brunch at Sunken Well! We had a reservation for a Saturday morning and I’m glad we had planned ahead because this place is pop-u-lar. And for good reason –it rocks! we thoroughly enjoyed the brunch specials of Mac’n Cheese Waffles topped with fried chicken(well seasoned and mighty tasty) and Butterscotch Pancakes(sinfully decadent and it’s a crazy huge portion). For healthier fare, get the Mediterranean Omelette. And what is brunch without alcohol? Sunken Well happens to concoct damn good Bloody Marys. The service was great, too. We miiiight have over stayed our welcome just a tad, but the employees were super nice and told us just to hang out and relax(thanks, you guys are too nice! If you’re looking for a casual and local spot with unique takes on classic dishes, Sunken Well is a must-visit.

We went to the Sunken Well for lunch on a Friday. The atmosphere is casual and the place was fairly quiet. The inside is small, about 15 tables and a bar and the walls are covered with local art. The restaurant is in an old building a short walking distance away from the Fredericksburg Battlefield. The service was friendly and the food was all correct and came out quickly. The Reuben was phenomenal. I mean, A-mazing. The best one I’ve had in many years. The second sandwich we ordered was a hot roast beef; it was ok, but not as good as the Reuben. The food is a little pricey for what it is, but not terribly overpriced, you can tell the ingredients were fresh and the bread for both of our sandwiches was sliced thick and perfectly grilled. If you are walking around the battlefield area and want a cold beer and a good hot sandwich, I would recommend giving the Sunken Well a shot.

Visited The Sunken Well Tavern for the second time with Husband. It was a Saturday and we did not realize that they have a brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. The place was really, really busy. Husband had a breakfast entrée — lamb something and cheesy grits. How can you go wrong with cheesy grits. He thought it was great. I had a hamburger with fries(of course). The hamburger was big and even the hand smash couldn’t get it to a size that I could eat without silverware. Believe me, I have a big mouth so I thought there might be a chance. But anyway… It was cooked to perfection and the bun was something that must’ve fallen from bread heaven. It was far and above better than average bun. Let’s just say that if Oprah LOVES bread like she says she does, she would swoon over this bun. The fries were like wedges except cut very thin. I don’t like big steak fries or wedges but these were thin and wanted to be crispy. Mine could have stayed in the fryer a little longer. They were just a tad underdone and ever-so-slightly greasy. Don’t get me wrong: I ate them. Still just saying. The place was loud and busy. There were a lot of young(and dare I say«cooler») people there with us. We felt welcome and as much as the group as anyone. Seems like an ‘everyone is welcome’ kind of place. We sat at the bar where you usually get better service. Our beginning service was okay; order taken promptly and drinks served up. The guy sitting next to me waited for some time before he got a menu. When we were ready to leave, it was clear that turning tables was not a high priority. We finally went over to our wait person and asked if we could please pay so we could go home. We will definitely go back. Probably not for brunch but we will go back.

All the food we ordered was tasty, especially the crabcake sandwich and brussel sprouts appetizer. Friendly service, nice atmosphere. Will go back and try other items.

Still a fan of The Sunken Well Tavern… and I strongly recommend getting there as soon as they unlock the doors. People if you don’t believe me, then get there at about 1030am make sure you bring something to read and don’t mind standing in line and staring at people in hopes that they will eat their wonderful meal really fast so that you can sit down… ain’t gonna happen. No one is in a hurry once they sit down, and the staff won’t rush you out the door. People arrived late and were put off because there was no place to sit… too bad so sad. Their brunch menu reminds me of creative writing… where do they come up with the ideas for the eclectic choices is amazing… Brownie Waffles with whipped cream!!! Parmesan cheesy grits? Nothing boring here… lamb gravy? People were actually struggling trying to decide what to have for brunch… and I can see why.

This place is great! Kind of cramped, but great! The local art for sale on the walls is really cool too. Ate here for Sunday brunch while I was visiting my parents in Fredericksburg. We went early so it was easy for us to get a table. Staff was quick, friendly, and attentive. At first I thought the prices were a little high, but once we got out food I found them to be more than reasonable. I ordered the corned beef hash and if it wasn’t the best corned beef hash I have ever had in my life then I don’t know what is. It wasn’t overly salty, the meat literally fell apart in my mouth, and everything about it was perfect. I would eat it for every Sunday brunch for the rest of my life if I could. I also tried part of the pumpkin waffle that my mom got. It was also pretty good, and I really enjoyed the poached apples on it but I think if I would have eaten a whole portion it might have been a bit too sweet for me. If you’re ever in the area and looking for a place for brunch, definitely check this one out!

Cute place in a residential area. Very friendly staff, and the food was decent and somewhat well-priced, but not enough for me to come back. My biggest complaint was the time for food preparation: for a table of five, it took about 25 minutes for our food to arrive after we ordered, and it wasn’t crowded. One of the plates arrived even later. Of course I happened to have somewhere to be so this was not well-timed…even so, I hate to wait that long in general when I’m hungry.

We came during restraunt week and were not disappointed. The place was packed by 7(glad we had reservations) and The Grateful Dead tribute band made for a very fun vibe. I had probably the best stuffed pepper I’ve ever eaten and pork fat cheese fries — gluttonous for sure, but totally worth it. I recommend for when you want something new.

I had lunch at the Sunken Well Tavern and, upon entering, found a restaurant that basically looked like a well-kept bar. It was nicely designed, clean, art on the walls, and stuffed animals scattered around, but it made me wonder: is the food any good? The short answer is: oh, yes, the food is good! I shared a jerk chicken quesadilla and sesame chicken wrap for lunch and both entrees’ were excellent. As I am a bit of a quesadilla lover and semi-snob, I’ve become critical of restaurants that serve your typical cheese-laden quesadilla. This jerk chicken quesadilla, however, was a wonderfully balanced mix of chicken, Jamaican jerk sauce, and cheese. The sauce and chicken were the taste stars of the quesadilla with sweetness and some spice in every bite. The presentation of the meals was quite good and thoughtful, also. Overall, I was very pleasantly surprised with the meal and will definitely return here in the future. In addition, the service was very good, the music playing was mellow and appropriate, and the ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant.
