They sent a woman who had no clue how to do a design, zero understanding of horticulture, no knowledge of plants just wanted to sell a lot of expensive services and tossed bushes around the perimeter and called it a design. and charged me for this travesty! never never go there the«landscapers» are a joke. . Update: In fact, I showed the landscaper a list of about 100 plants to choose from, which availability in this temperature zone I had researched beforehand, and indeed they only had about 5. In addition, I had prior to the appointment entered at their website a request making clear what I wanted, and it wasn’t a straight row of bushes around the perimeter, at all. I am scaling back my needs to just preparing the grounds. Also, I spent half of a day off buffing out the 20-ish 8 inch scratches she left on my brand new shiny finish coffee table by sliding her laptop around on it, Clearly I was not going to put my yard in these people’s care. And mine is not the only negative review here on Unilocal

We have been long-term customers of Meadows Farms, for at least the past 10 years. Today, Mr Rick Meadows came to our house to look at potential landscaping work, and planting a tree that we wanted. It is 45 minutes after his visit, and I am still pretty upset by the experience. I do not typically post to Unilocal, but this experience warrants it. Just like Dan R highlighted, he was not the LEAST bit interested in the vision or issues we were trying to resolve with landscaping solutions(we have some standing water and wanted something that could help dissipate wind from hitting the side of the house). I laid out the concerns we were trying to address, expecting a discussion on some of the better options that he would recommend, and possible courses of action. Mr Meadows walked away very abruptly, leaving me standing in my back yard. His only question was if we still wanted them to plant the tree we had put a deposit on. With his rudeness(this is underplaying the situation), and lack of ability to discuss how to best position the tree in the yard based on our concerns, we immediately cancelled the tree. Not only have they lost the sale of a tree, and potential for a larger landscape project, they have also lost a long-term customer. I guess we will need to find a landscaper who understands water and wind mitigation methods, and a nursery that cares about its customer’s concerns.

I had a landscape design guy come to the house. He was not the least bit interested in my vision or issues like high deer population. His flip answers were irritating( . «there are no plants that deer won’t eat». I have since learned more about plant selection under these conditions by going to the nursery and discussing this issue as well as researching plant selection on the web.

We went there specifically looking for a weeping cherry tree. We were told«if» they have the tree by three men out in the field that it would be over there by all the trees. Not happy with that answer, we went inside and we asked the girl at the counter about it, she told us to go find anyone with a red shirt on outside and they could help us. Told her we already did that and she said to go ask the lady standing right by the door. We obliged and asked and were told to go ask one of the three guys in the field. We had already done that the first time. Needless to say, we left and will never return.

We visited to find perennials that can tolerate full sun. Rich was very helpful and showed us everything we asked to see and was extremely helpful. We were very satisfied with the plants, prices and customer service and we would not hesitate to return again.

Please look elsewhere for landscape design and installation services. I wish I had looked on Unilocal for reviews before paying thousands of dollars for them to come out and do an afternoon’s worth of work and taking our money. Their designer did not listen to what we wanted. Their customer service(if you can call it that) is terrible. Once they have your money they are done with you and do not care if you are happy with the results. Be warned, you will not receive«professional» landscaping services. Save your money and do it yourself or look for a company with better reviews. This is not the one.

Asked for landscape design and received 10 min sketch on the back of a truck. He acted like I was an inconvenience rather than a customer. I was prepared to spend thousands but instead paid $ 49 and sent him on his way.

Very knowledgeable and very organized nursery. They had my carnivore plant but knew very little regarding its care(and only carnivore plant growers would really know so no hard feelings). Had a nice selection well cared for.

Good healthy plants, to the person that bought plants that they thought were unhealthy and complained about the return policy, why not be more educated next time and don’t buy unhealthy plants that will probably die. I haven’t had any bad experiences there yet, people there are helpful and courteous. There plants all look pretty healthy and have come back year after year in my garden. They have a nice variety and you can get better deals there then Home Depot and lowes.

ZERO stars if possible I had a horrible experience with Meadow Farms last year but I really wanted rose bushes and returned to buy some double knockout rose bushes. I bought 12′ and was told they will bloom in April — I also bought 2 bushes from Lowes and planted them in the same sunny place with the exact same Miracle Grow planting soil andd fertilizer. My Lowes bushes have 10 roses so far but the Meadow Farms bushes have ZERO blooms and no sign of buds. Also — Lowes was almost half the price of Meadow Farms. Last year I bought 2 cherry trees here — they were immediately tagged with my name on red tape and set aside in a back holding area. I returned to get them on Saturday and they were gone — they RESOLD my trees and tried to give me smaller ugly trees — they claim they were too busy and some new kid resold them yet they would not say who it was — there were. Five people standing around doing NOTHING and they said they’re busy and did not notice — HORRIBLEPLACE

Do not bother trying to use their landscape design services. Getting someone to help you there is a real chore. And when someone is finally tracked down to help, they do no hessitate to let you know that you are inconveniencing them. Also, after my design was drawn up, I was just handed the plan. The person helping me did not help me locate plants or talk about costs to have the garden installed. Too bad, they really missed out on a big sell! Defintely never going back.

Meadows Farms has to compete with several large retail garden centers just down the road(Home Depot, Lowes, Wally World) and they do a pretty good job of it. If you’re looking for a nice selection of some of the more popular annuals, perennials, herbs, trees and shrubs, this is the place to go. The plants are always healthy and very well cared for. I like that many of the shrubs and trees are balled & burlap-wrapped. This means the plants have been growing in a field and cared for for about five to seven years by a professional grower before being carefully removed from the soil, preserving as much of the root system as possible, the root ball wrapped in burlap and then transported to a nursery for sale. Balled and burlapped trees and shrubs are good sized mature plants that, when planted in your yard, will take off and grow much faster than a garden center plant which is water stressed, usually root-bound and has been growing in a gallon plastic pot for a season or two, at best. Balled and burlapped plants are a bit more expensive than potted plants but they are well worth the extra cost in terms of vigor, growth and maturity. My only disappointments with Meadows Farms is that they do not carry a good selection of roses, their pots are all pretty much the same(and ugly to boot), and the garden store is boring and uninspiring. There is a market for cool gardening paraphernalia, outdoor accessories and much more that I don’t think they take full advantage of. Overall though, Meadows Farms has a great selection of plants and is a good value for the top quality plants that you get.

We got our Christmas tree here the past two years and have been very happy with their selection and price. I came back in the spring to get plants for my garden and was equally impressed with the quality of their flowers and herbs and veggies. The staff is very helpful and pretty knowledgeable. They also have a very nice selection of garden accessories in the store at pretty reasonable prices. There are a ton of locations in Virginia and Maryland. I’ll be going back this year for my Christmas tree!
