Decided to do pickup only today because of the weather, which would have been fine except they never contacted me after I ordered delivery to tell me this. Very unprofessional. They will not be getting any of my business again

I think this place is a hidden gem. So cheap and decent Chinese food!

Two stars ONLY for the delivery drivers, young lady who answers the phone, and AVERAGE nature of the food. Formosa and FuKien have never given me so much trouble. I’d feel more comfortable giving this joke NOSTARS. If ordering delivery, verify the order in TRIPLICATE at minimum. If possible, fax or email your request for total confirmation, and then STILL hope that it’s correct. Don’t be hungry or have hungry children waiting to eat, either. My son and I usually do Chinese on Sundays. These people have made SOMANYMISTAKES on multiple orders that I can’t even imagine how great the food would have to be for me to order from them again. It’s not great. So, third time is definitely the end.

4.95 lunch combo and it’s tasty! Try their dumpljngs, the wrapping is thick juicy and delicious. I always order crab Rangoon and this place makes them well. The décor is depressing. But food quality and portions has always been good. My parents are hard to impressive as they grew up in hong kong and travel all over the world. They didn’t think this place was great but they didn’t say it was terrible. That’s not too shabby for fredericksburg.

We had dinner here last night, a party of 6. It was fantastic! We each ordered different dishes so we could share«family style». Everything was tender and delicious and the staff was over the top accommodating! This is our new favorite Chinese restaurant!

I use to really like this restaurant. Lately the food simply has not been good. I ordered food tonight, spent $ 25 and everything appeared to be old. I ordered shrimp fried rice and it was the worst. I ordered Shanghai shrimp spring rolls and chicken wings; you could clearly tell it was reheated… not fresh. The delivery driver was lost. Therefore when my food arrived it was not hot; luke warm. Really disappointed! I will not order from this place ever again.

The first time I came here was when it first opened — the cockroach on the curtains made me not come back for a couple years. Everyone insisted the food was worth giving them another shot. I went in today around 4:30 — one other table was seated. I ordered quickly and received a beverage quickly. Then waited… and waited… and waited for the mediocre steamed dumplings appetizer. Two carryout orders were placed and no deliveries went out during the half hour I sat. Another 15 minutes later the dinner combination came and everything on it tasted about as good as below average microwaveable chinese food. I ate a few bites and then pushed my food away. Then I waited patiently while making eye contact and motioning for the two servers who were sitting down chatting. Eventually I went to the counter where the one girl who was working rushed to check me out. On the positive side, I didn’t see any cockroaches on my second visit… maybe they went somewhere where the food and service was better.

Love this place! Excellent sesame and sweet and sour chicken dishes which came with egg rolls and fried rice for the lunch combo and each for only 5.50! We ordered takeout but the waitress seemed very nice and the place is very quiet and nicely kept up inside. Definitely a solid Chinese place and they deliver!

came here in mid september heard of brown gravy? that’s what they use on everything! YUCK! pan fried noodles — noodles were fine. thin, crispy, and pan fried. shrimp tasted good and tasted like shrimp should taste, fresh. no thanks on the baby corn and water chesnuts! the brown gravy ruined it all. wish i had asked if they make white gravy instead. beef with snowpeas — this tasted good and wasn’t dredged with brown gravy. the water chesnuts(which i don’t like anyway) shouldn’t have been added. sesame chicken — also tasted good despite being covered and soaked by brown gravy. just think orange chicken… but instead of tangy it was savory(soy sauce). mapo tofu — another brown gravy soaked dish! the tofu actually had a nice taste, but the sauce/gravy YUCK! at the end of the meal you get an asian mango sponge cake cube. it was tasty, although a bit sweet. we won’t be returning to this place. it has potential… but the brown gravy/sauce needs to be toned down. i haven’t had chinese food with brown gravy covered over everything til i moved to northern virginia :/

This location is a new«sister» location of the original infamous«Taste of China» in Charlottesville, where the equally infamous & elusive Szechuan Chef Peter Chang once worked his magic. Located in a tiny strip mall right on the main drag Plank Road as you enter Fredericksburg from Culpeper, the lovely fresh bright interior décor shows it as being quite new. There are a few pictures in the lobby of specialty Szechuan dishes, & we were pleased to see that our favorite — «Dry Fried Eggplant» — was one of them. We arrived this past Thursday at an odd hour — 3:45 p.m. — so not lunch; not dinner. There was only one other couple dining. We were seated & presented with menus, although both of us — after having had perused the website earlier — were disappointed that none of the Peter Chang-inspired Szechuan specialties were present. Asked the waiter if there was a separate«Szechuan Specialty» menu, & he brought out one sheet for the two of us to look over. Oddly enough, even on this menu, our«Dry Fried Eggplant» wasn’t listed. Asked the waiter if they did offer it, & he said that they could make it for us. Frankly, since there’s a pic of it in the lobby & it’s listed on the website, it SHOULD be on the menu. In fact, very few items from the website(which now seems to be strictly for the Charlottesville location only) were on the menu here, which is really too bad. We ordered the«Dry Fried Eggplant», the«Braised Fish in Spicy Bean Sauce», & the«Spicy Crispy Seafood». Each dish came out individually with 10 – 15 minute interludes between them, which was odd. Maybe there was only one person cooking at that time of day? Regardless — «Dry Fried Eggplant» was good, but not quite as good as the original done by Peter Chang himself at his«Peter Chang’s China Grill» in Charlottesville. Less Szechuan peppercorns, cilantro, & chili peppers in general. But the lovely lavender-colored skin-on Japanese eggplants used here were definitely a plus. Husband’s «Spicy Crispy Seafood» was a bit on the skimpy side, & wasn’t very crispy. While the shrimp were of a very nice size, the tiny pieces of squid maybe? were ludicrous, & the small sea scallops had been sliced horizontally several times to make them look like more. And again — nothing was all that crispy or spicy. BUT — exactly the same as our complaint with«Taste of China» in Charlottesville, this dish was terribly salty. Not completely inedibly salty like at their Charlottesville location, but WAY too salty nonetheless. And the same oversalting pretty much ruined my «Braised Fish in Spicy Bean Sauce». Nice thick pieces of white fish in a flavorful spicy preserved-bean sauce. Well — it could have been. If whoever in the kitchen could just lay off the damn salt a bit, they’d have some pretty darn good Szechuan dishes here. Although, I must add that the«heat» in my dish came from sliced Jalapenos — not Szechuan Peppercorns or any other type of Asian pepper. Way too said, as neither of these items are difficult to get. Using Jalapenos is cheap & lazy, & this is the only Asian restaurant I’ve EVER seen use them. Shame on you Taste of China!!! After our leftovers were packed up(no way I’m leaving any«Dry Fried Eggplant» behind — lol!), we were presented with complementary small squares of a layered orange-flavored cake, &4 wedges of fresh orange. A nice touch. Total bill for our 3 dishes + one TsingTao beer came to around $ 50 or so after tax & tip. Service was lovely — our waiter was polite, friendly, & attentive without being cloying, & seemed to enjoy the fact that we were interested in ordering from the Szechuan side of the tracks. Will we be back? We don’t get to Fredericksburg often, but it’s possible.
