This place was always good until my last stop here. The food appeared to be reheated from the day before. Soggy fish, shrimp and hush puppies. Extra greasy too. we’ll take a break from visiting here allowing them time to make needed changes.

I had a horrible experience at Long John Silvers so I was hesitant to try eating here but I am glad that I did. The battered fish was fresh and delicious. The fries were fresh out of the fryer and the mac and cheese was decent. Oh and the meal came with hush puppies and they were yummy! The serving sizes were big and worth what I paid for it. The sweet tea was good not to sweet not too strong just right. I definitely plan on coming back and bringing my family the next time. Service was friendly and it took a little while but the food was fresh so it was worth the few minutes of waiting.

Well, it’s fast food seafood — not a Bone Fish — so for $ 7 or so, you satisfy your craving for some shrimp or fish or claims — not great, a tad greasy, just okay. If you are use to or expect FRESH seafood, this is not the place — when I go to the coast, I eat at a restaurant on a dock with 5 – 6 shrimping trawlers 10′ away — the seafood is incredibly fresh and delicious — succulent, in fact. Frozen seafood never taste like fresh but it beats no seafood when you want some. Prices are pretty fair, portions generous, slaw was very good and hushpuppies were moist and tasty — surprising good actually… I actually enjoyed them the most. Shrimp were thin(butterflied or, in other words, pounded out flat) and somewhat overwhelmed by the breading and only a hint of shrimp flavor. Oysters were large, and better — but do not compare to fresh. Ice tea was good but they had NO sugar free sweeteners out. They do bring your food to you after you order, persons handling that duty were very friendly, checked on us a couple of times and offered to clear the table when we were done. Even brought us tarter and cocktail sauces, which were cold, a good thing. All in all, it’s just tolerable — not great by any stretch. But, when you are 50 miles inland, it’s as good as it gets unless you are willing to pay $ 60 at Bone Fish… worlds apart.

Anyone who thinks he’s coming here to get good seafood has no idea what good seafood is. We came here upon request of my mother-in-law, who DOES happen to think this is good seafood. This is simply nothing more than fast food seafood, and you get what you pay for, which is not much. The battered and fried meals are greasy, with WAY too much breading, and the grilled meals are dry and overcooked. The only reason i gave 2 stars is because the service qas quite good, and the young man who delivered our meals and took them away was exceptionally courteous and friendly. But next time I want mediocre seafood, I’ll go to Red Lobster.

This place has something for everyone… as long as what everyone wants is fried. That said there some broiled options, but fried is the way to go. I’ve had the fried oyster platter, a deal at $ 7.99 special. I have also had the fried fish(excellent). They have ala carte pieces of fish, seafood or chicken for just over a dollar, which is a good supplement to your dinner. The prices are great for good quality seafood. Good crispy batter. Friendly service.

I don’t usually expect much from a chain like these, but I was pleased to find the quality of the food and service at this location far better than average. Keep up the good work.

I love Captain D’s. Some of the best fast food seafood. I don’t really like Long John Silvers and spending big money on fresh seafood isn’t always possible so stop in for some delicious fried seafood.

Cheap albeit greasy seafood shack. I concur with other reviewers that it’s a notch up from Arthur Treacher or Long John’s. The sign says«fresh» but vegetable side dishes are obviously canned. And they don’t use real crabmeat, so fresh is a relative term. But there are 5 kinds of fresh fish available on the menu including salmon, tilapia, catfish and flounder. All fish are filets. Gumbo didn’t have authentic cajun flavor but wasn’t bad. Good hush puppies, tasteless dinner roll. Breading is somewhat heavy and strongly flavored so a nice alternative is to order some of the non-fried menu items such as grilled fish and rice, which is nice. Extra points for a great job of re-creating that fun beachside feel inside and out, and the menu prices are pretty old-fashioned, too. Plus they have free WiFi, which is a cool alternative to the coffee-shop or hotel lobby.

A decent fast food seafood place, better than Arthur Treacher’s or Long John’s. They also have some slightly heathier non-fried options.

3.5 stars How can you go wrong with fried foods??? I don’t know but I do know that when you are looking for some fried seafood and fries this is one of the places to go in Fredricksburg. Yes, it’ fast food but sometimes you just need a little bit of the stuff to get you though the day, week or month. I used to treat myself to Captain D’s once a month and would get the fried fish and chicken platter with hush puppies, coleslaw, and fries and at almost 1500 calories you can’t do this very often unless you want to clog your heart but it is so worth it as treat very so often!
