Order: Fried Artichokes Pimento Cheese Prime Rib Sandwich Chicken, Sausage & Andouille Pasta Firestone Union Jack IPA Outcome: Every single thing we had here was amazing. The waiter allowed me to try 3 different beers before deciding on my order. The food was beyond good and the atmosphere was casual and cozy. I’m only in FBG for 2 weeks, but will definitely be making it back there before I go.

Love love love this place. Best beer selection anywhere in the DC metro area. Great place to sample new or rare beers. Amazing apps! Try the pretzel for sure. And can’t beat $ 2 burger night! Very warm and friendly staff. Taylor at the bar is wonderful and Victoria is a very sweet server.

Visited on a Monday night for the $ 2 burger special, we got there in time for happy hour. We ordered the«blue ridge» sangria and from the description we knew it had fireball in it, the drink tasted like fireball on the rocks with a splash of cider. Needless to say, my girl friend and I both ordered new drinks cause they were hard to drink. Our server, Kelly P, was SUPER attentive and apologetic for the drinks and took our order all at once and nothing came out wrong! Great job Kelly P :) Had the service not been so great I would have given this visit 2 stars. 1 star for our giant pretzel app and 1 for the crab spinach and artichoke app. I’ve been to cap ale before so I know these are my favorite apps! Both of our burgers came out pretty cold and the sweet potato fries were cold as well. The food was just OK. I’ve had better at cap ale and would not return for the burger night. The apps were amazing as usual tho!

Food was pretty good. The prices were decent. I was a little disappointed that they advertised happy hour, but didn’t provide a very good one. It was literally just drinks and like one option for food. My two friends and I ended up all sharing an entrée and an appetizer, which was enough for all of us. The drinks were decent: cold beer and decent pours of wine. Service was alright, not as attentive as we would have liked when it came to getting our check, but throughout the majority of the evening it was good. No major complaints, just don’t know that I was impressed enough to go back.

I’ve been very happy with service, food, and pricing. Friendly enough staff, although it can be very difficult to catch their attention. The food has improved? I was very happy with the burgers we ordered and the pretzel.

My husband and I dined here for New Years Eve last night. We called the night before to make a reservation since their Facebook page said they were accepting them for NYE. Maybe the guy who answered was new or something because he told us they weren’t accepting reservations and that it’s just first come, first serve. I was contacted by one of the managers who mentioned they were booked up with reservations between 5:00 and 8:30, but she was very apologetic and accommodating even so. We arrived at 5:00(without a reservation) for dinner to see if we could eat prior to the«booked» time frame that night and we were at first asked if we had a reservation and when we explained to the host stand the situation, they sat us immediately without hesitation. Mostly open tables at that time anyway. The manager, Anna, then came over to our table and apologized again about the miscommunication in person and offered us an appetizer on the house to make up for it. The pretzel with sauces appetizer was SOGOOD, so we were happy to be offered that on the house. Our server was WONDERFUL. I can’t remember her name, but she said she was new and only been there for a handful of shifts. You really couldn’t tell — wow! We were impressed… so friendly and helpful. Just the right amount of service to our table too(i.e. overly attentive or ignoring us for too long). Our meals were fantastic too — my husband ordered a burger w/sweet potato fries and loved everything. I had the Chesapeake mac n cheese w/side salad. I enjoyed my meal too. Our server allowed us quite a few beer samples and provided recommendations. It was hard to decide, but we loved the ones we eventually decided on. I was just a bit disappointed that they were sold out of the raspberry wheat beer, so I’ll just have to visit again to try that one along with the chicken and waffle entrée. We really loved the ambient atmosphere at Capital Ale House too. I’m glad we reviewed our bill though since we were mistakenly double charged for one of the beers we ordered, but that was pointed out and corrected immediately. I’d definitely give this place a try if you’re considering checking it out… at least for the excellent food, beer, and service.

Food was good, nice ambience — that’s the hit. The miss was our server Dee Dee. She was not the friendliest person. We got our food and she just dipped out. Only came back to take our plates and ask if we wanted any dessert. She wasn’t the worst server I’ve ever had, but she wasn’t the best. Not sure if she really likes her job or perhaps her NYE was rough. Who knows, but she needs a little warmth and friendliness. We will return, but don’t want to have Dee Dee as our server. She’s the reason for the 3 stars.

Started off good. The young man behind the bar was very knowledgable and helped us narrow our beer choices down and brought us a sample each. We ordered a burger to share and when the burger arrived I had to cut it myself after waiting for silverware. We asked for medium and received it rare:( The tall young lady with long dark hair completely ignored us while she played in the ice talking to a couple she knew. We had to grab the attention of another bartender bless her heart she ran around while the other girl stood and talked forever.

Service is not the best and the food is mediocre. Every time I have been there, I have waited at least 40 minutes for my food, even salads. The bar staff are hit and miss. Waited today for about 8 mins and it was not busy at the bar. Couldn’t get anyone to acknowledge me. Sedona Taphouse is a bit better in my opinion. On the bright side, Capital does have a lot of beers on tap.

Bartender UNINTENTIONALLY spilled a beer on me. Poured another. Still got charged. Not cool

Good place to come for a beer. They don’t brew their own beer, but they have a large selection of beers to choose from, including a number of Virginia craft beers. I was looking to try something I’d not had before — so I went with: –Sessions in the Abyss(Session IPA)(4.5% ABV), Fair Winds Brewing Co., Lorton, VA A really nice Session IPA — it had a hoppier, more resinous aspect to it than most Session IPAs I’ve tried. Delicious! The two guys working the bar were interesting to talk with. We discussed some of the local F-Burg craft breweries and they provided their take on the best of them and their favorite brews from those breweries. The place is huge dining area-wise. Need to come back here some time and try out the grub!

I visited this restaurant 2 Fridays ago. I had the calamari appetizer which was very yummy and different from other places. The wings were great. The pineapple barbecue sauce is really yummy. The chicken and waffle dinner is great as well. My wife had the fish and chips which was also tasty with a lot of flavor. My mom had the crab cakes and they were good… Almost as good as a Maryland crab cake. The service was good. It was pretty loud inside the restaurant. It didn’t bother me but it seemed to bother other people.

GREAT Food, GREAT Service, GREAT Beer… what more could you want? I still love this location and when I am local I take friends and family here for both food and atmosphere. The place has a great vibe and the prices are competitive. The food is very tasty and their Appetizers take it for any other place in the area. I would recommend this place over any other bar of this style in the area.

I’m not a beer snob, so when they didn’t have my beer, yeungling, they pointed me to another that tasted similar and I was happy. I’ve been to places like this that make you feel uncomfortable if you aren’t a beer snob /pro, and they didnt make it like that. seafood Mac for the win!

Pretty cool place. Lots of room at the bar(standing or seating) plus booths. Had over 50 craft beers on tap. Lots of locals. Had the turkey, bacon, brie on flat bread. Amazing! Service was a little slow, but they were packed.

High-level review– endless beer choices, awesome food and good quality, best restaurant staff of our entire trip. Go here and you will be in for a treat. More info – This place is great. We came here after a long drive and were seated in a spacious booth and greeted by our waitress who was very welcoming. The drink menu is huge and the beer list is top notch. They do a great beer-to-go service which is a cool idea. We ordered garlic mussels and buffalo chicken wings which were truly top notch. Food and burgers were also A+. But by far the best part of the trip was the welcoming staff and fantastic manager. He was so welcoming and gave us great tips about the area and his insight on the local Mary Washington University. Great job, Capital Ale House team!

Pretzel is great. The dough is a step up from what you might normally find in a mall pretzel. The make this amazing sweet mustard for dip that goes with it. Viking blod is powerful. 19% alcohol. Is this really beer? Or a hoppy whiskey. Mac n Cheese with crab.

Fun place to grab a beer in old town Fredericksburg. The beer selection is vast — lots of choices — almost overwhelming. If you let the bartenders know your tastes, they will make decent recommendations. We always sit at the huge bar and love the unique ice ring to keep drinks cold. Great idea as I hate when my beers starts to get warm. The menu seems somewhat confused — bar food mixed with German specialties, but it’s nice to see the variety and what I have tried has been good. The smoked gouda and bacon mussels are one of my favorites. I love the flavor the broth imparts and it makes a delicious dip for bread. Their fries are another one of my favorites — crisp and light. I love that they serve them with a variety of flavored mayonnaise based sauces. I am not a fan of ketchup. The décor of the place is fitting with old town — rustic, lots of wood accents and beams on the ceilings. The concrete bar is the one modern touch. You’ll have to walk through the lounge in back to find the restroom, but if you venture back you’ll see couches and dartboards. We’ve always received great service at this location, but we always sit a the bar so I cannot speak to table service. We’ll definitely stop back in again when we are in the area.

I want to start juicing but I’m hesitant because I don’t know how to juice burgers… Okies let’s start! Casual with beer — Capital Ale House! How about a pub that serves Pub Food… do wings a couple of different ways. Buffalo and Asian style… California burger and Buffalo Burger… all burgers are served with fries… theres a couple of Salad options… Grilled Steak Salad and a Blackened Chicken Ceasar Salad… dare I say offer vegetarian choices(stirfrys…veggie burgers and even a cheese/fruit/bread combo)… inexpensive… the area is kinda cozy… Yes there’s a bar area… and a dining room area…(Drinks …Beer of cores) Service is mediocre… food is decent… Been here a few times… The only place that opens till two am! Huh…

It was my first time in Fredericksburg and my gal pal suggested we go to Capital Ale House for dinner and beers. For the Fredericksburg area, charming charming and quaint Fredericksburg, I can see how Capital Ale House would be the hip hop spot. Casual digs, friendly staff, lots of beers on tap and bottle and a handsome representation of local and not so local craft brews, pretty decently delicious food and super awesome specials. $ 2 burgers? Yes please! If you ever catch yourself in the burg, definitely come check this place out.
