Battlefield Brewery: The Pub

The Battlefield Brewery is a dive bar that just happens to brew some beer. In fact, a dive bar is what they were originally. Then they decided to brew some beer. They expanded from a couple to three, four, and then five before reeling back to two standard brews. Occasionally they will brew a third. So don’t plan on finding a huge variety of brewed beers here. On the night I visited they happened to have three brewed beers: a lager, red and pale ale. Their red was quite good and was uniquely different than a typical red. It was also much stronger than a typical red beer. My favorite was the lager. Nothing too special about the pale ale.
This is without a doubt a locals’ bar. Everyone knew one another there. The bartender carried on with the customers as if she was a patron herself. Next door is a restaurant, which is part of the bar with the same food and drink menu, but it is not connected to the bar. This may be due to the fact that the bar side allows smoking. Some people are so put off by smokers that they are disgusted even before the cigarette is lit so if this describes you then you might as well steer clear. I am not a smoker, but I had no problem enjoying my beers among the smokers.
The food menu provides great sandwich options that you order hot or cold. I enjoyed a tasty chicken cordon bleu sandwich. They also serve many typical bar appetizers, different types of fries and quite a few salads.

Great family owned place, the burgers were never frozen, hand made, cooked perfect & delicious. Fries were great as well. Service is top notch, we will definitely be back & tell friends. The whole place was clean & decorated in midevel /​Irish. It’s is well worth checking out.

It doesn’t look like much but I had such a delicious meal here. I got the plain burger with fries and it was perfectly done. The meat patty was very thick and flavorful, and I only had tomato and lettuce on it because it didn’t need anything else.
The fries were really well seasoned and there was a decent quantity so for the price this was a great deal. The server was also very attentive and friendly… I would definitely come back.

Horrible! Told they had a blonde, but was given a red ale (poured from a red tap handle). Going to have to go home and wash my clothes immediately due to the horrible infested smoke stench in my clothes. They may «try» to have a separate section, but when I walked in main door, the main bar was a chain smokers paradise.

Love the food, no matter what time of the day it’s consistenly delicious. Beer is icy cold and the service outstanding. Atmosphere can be divey, but who cares when the food is tasty… be warned that it can be a smokers refuge at times… you can always go to the non smoking side, although it’s probably not as fun.

Gross cigarette infested bar. They had 2 beers on tap, a blonde and a pale ale. Both were mediocre at best. Staff was nice but that’s about it. Maybe they should just stick to serving crappy bar food and shitty beer, leave the beer making to the pros.

Good neighborhood pub with good food and friendly service. Apparently smoking is not forbidden

Love the beer they brew. HATE THE SMOKE my wife won’t go because of it, so if I have a hankering for a battlefield brew I go fill my growler and then shower once I get home so I don’t smell like an ashtray.

Food had no taste. Waitress was rude. There are many better places around than this one…

this place was recommended to us by a friend. We tried to go to the bar side, but it was overwhelmingly smoky so we sat on the nearly deserted restaurant side. We should have gone to the bar because the kiten opens to the restaurant side, but in the restaurant side is a door to the bar… which when folks from the bar side order food… has to be open, which means it’s smoky in the restaurant.
My husband asked the server if the fish for the fish & chips was frozen or battered there. She assured us it was made there. I don’t think she understood the question because what came out, I could have made at home by deep frying a Mrs. Paul’s fish filet. The chips were hot but limp, like they had been fried a while ago and sat under a steamer.
we will not be back, even though we have buy one get one free entrée coupons. I will be sending those to the friend who recommended the place.
The beer was cold. See, I can say something nice. occasionally.

This was the original «pub» in Fredericksburg. The name recently changed to The Fredericksburg Brewery” and they brew their own beer there now. Always a great place to eat and drink and with the addition of their own brews, it’s gotten better. Grubs ~
