I have been eating at Las Cazuelas for over 30 years. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Humboldt County. I always order the #25 which is a BBQ Beef Taco, Tamale and Quesdilla. The taco is medium spicy with shredded beef. It is in a fried corn tortilla — tastes homemade. The tamale is spicy with the best sauce. Quesilla has cheese, peppers and salsa. I always order some rice. I have never been disappointed. Chips and Salsa are super tasty too. Salsa is different then any other that I have had and spicy. Las Cazuelas is the best!

Very friendly staff. Choice of ground beef or chicken — in not crazy about either. Good salsa with the chips. Most dishes over $ 9. Not good price for the quality of the food.

I’ve been coming here for a long time and the salsa is yum but food is medicore. It doesn’t seem very authentic because good mexican food has pop to it. Today I ordered tacos and when I bit into it so much liquid came out the other end! I didn’t want to wear my lunch so I hovered over my plate and by the time I got to my second taco it was soggy from the liquid of the 1st and by the time I finished the 3rd there was about a quarter cup of water juices on my plate. The service has gotten better then past experiences but it also wasn’t busy. I usually stick to the hole in the wall mexican restaurants but today I choose here and I just think maybe next time I will go to eureka. If one thinks this is good mexican food… then they’ve never had authentic mexican food. I honestly think the frequent flyers of this place are the trendy townsfolk of the not so friendly city

Walked in and was greeted quite nicely. Met some coworkers as I am from out of the area. Chips, orders, and drinks happened it no time at all. Food was hot and tasted great, service was great, everyone was happy. Really enjoy not having people sit right on top of us. Very reasonably priced, and a very good overall experience. Worth a stop. And then a repeat visit, next time I’m in town…

I’ve been spoiled by the fish tacos at another little place off Humboldt Hill, but they are never open! So, when family was in town we, once more, tried«Las Caz». The fish tacos here are AWFUL! A fish & chips type lump in a heavy, greasy, sort of fried corn tortilla. And, the pico de gallo was so hot it burned my lips. It seemed either the food was flat or so over the top spicy no one liked their food.(Well, not true, the kids liked the tasteless bean and cheese burritos.

The menu welcomes you, then, asks you to be patient while they prepare your food. I’m wondering why the word patience is on the menu? I ordered Chile Verde(pork.) It came out with red chile and the pork was hard as a rock. The server says their recipe for Chile Verde„ is red. Red Chile Verde? Hmmmmm. Most combos are listed with rice«or» beans. Rice OR beans? There’s an onion enchilada on the menu. Where is this popular? New York steak«ranchero.» Again, when did this become a Mexican favorite? Rice served partially cooked, semi crunchy and the refried beans are very dry. Chile rellenos are wrapped in an egg tortilla. They don’t sperate the eggs. Nothing like making a classic Mexican dish, less tasty. I’m beginning to question the authenticity of this place. Service is hit or miss. One of our servers tonight, was great. The other was completely checked out and had a very bad attitude. I’m guessing this town could use a real Mexican restaurant. Unfortunately, this is all we had to work with. Don’t waste your time here!

First place we ate when we got back to Humboldt County. It was as delicious as we remember and we’ll definitely come back. I had a great pork burrito and Will had his usual chimichanga.

Tucked away in a not so busy shopping center you find Las Caz, as the locals call it. Its a very inviting Mexican restraunt that offers so many different authentic dishes. The aroma upon walking in is intoxicating! We were seated almost right away and a very friendly waitress came over and took our drink order. They have a few Jarrito flavors to choose from. My kids choose strawberry as mandarin(orange) was not available. Chips & house made salsa was brought to our table. I got two crunchy corn chicken tacos. Served with refried beans & rice. Yummilicious! Portions are generous! Chicken was juicy& seasoned well… and nicely sized. I would get them again. Mom had a tostada and had a generous ingredients and got herself a «clean plate sticker»!! Son had the big sized bean cheese & rice burrito. He said it tasted great BUT didn’t care for the bottom of the flour tortilla to be grilled to dark brown as it left the tortilla very hard to bite through. My daughters kid sized bean cheese & rice burrito was also like this. Not something we are used to… Service was friendly & efficient. Bathrooms smelled fresh and were very tidy. Overall we enjoyed our lunch and our experience. I hear the nachos are to die for and I’ll have to try those on another visit to Fortuna :)

LASCAZ is AMAZING!!! This is the best Mexican Restaurant around. I’ve been to many places throughout Cali, in Oregon and as well as Washington, and nothing beats Las Caz. Mexican is my favorite food and I probably eat there 3x a week. They have the best service. They are fast. The chips and salsa are to die for. The food is delicious. When i got out… this is the place I go to. Its affordable, tasty, and outstanding. I order between a Mex burrito, super nachos, and #97. I always get an ice tea, which is the best around. This restaurant is great to go to if you have big parties. my family always chooses Las Caz to go to because they even give great service to big parties. This is a must try restaurant. If you don’t like it, I would be surprised.

Great Food, Nice and Speedy Service, and Fair Prices! An awesome family business that has been a staple in Fortuna for years! I humbly suggest the Chile Verde or Rellenos both are bomb diggity! :)

My first time at this establishment and I was very pleased. Prompt service with a smile. Good food and generous portions. Reasonably priced. Can’t find anything to complain about;)

It seems like it gets worse Everytime we go there which is only about once or twice a year now. They supposedly have a full bar but can’t make a mojito because they don’t have mint leaf(FYI: Ray’s next door carries organic mint leaf for like $ 2 a pack.) Service is usually terrible depending on who is working. One waitress denied my 35 year old bf a beer because his drivers license was expired. Obviously, an expired license just means he shouldn’t be driving, it doesn’t negate the fact that he was born in 1978. We used to be regular customers there so the Gestapo attitude wasn’t necessary. Save yourself the money & the headache & just go to El Taco Loco instead. Much more authentic Mexican cuisine & half the price without the harassment when you order a beer.

Gave it a shot on a recent stay in Fortuna. Was a little put off right away by the menu full of disclaimers such as «only one basket of chips complimentary”(which is tiny and half occupied by salsa dish), «water available on request», «we reserve the right to refuse service» etc. Anyhow the chips were very thick and hard so only getting one free basket was not a big downer. I ordered the quesadilla combo which I specifically asked for with no tomato or onion, and was told it does not contain, but it showed up with them anyhow. The girlfriends enchiladas went mostly untouched, she did not have much good to say. Waitress refilled daughters drink and brought it back with liquid all over the lid and dripping off the sides. The bottled beer was room temperature and served with a glass about double the bottle volume. All in all it was a lousy experience that was not cheap at all. I will not be back.

Best Mexican food in Humboldt, and best I’ve had anywhere in CA. There is no shortage of Mexican restaurants in Humboldt County. This place has the best Mexican. Authentic? Of course not. This isn’t Mexico. There’s a little thing called health inspectors in the US and a difference in quality shouldn’t be criticized for a difference in taste. That being said, you get the best food and best prices as well. The bar’s great. The service is friendly. The service can be slow on a Friday or Saturday night but that shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.

We had just started our road trip north and were staying overnight in Fortuna. The Eel River Brewing Co. next to the hotel was mobbed like nobody’s business, so we decided to find grub elsewhere. Enter Las Cazuelas, which seemed like it would deliver the usual greasy and satisfying Tex Mex that small towns have to offer and which I am perfectly happy with. Chips, salsa, margaritas, service — all pretty good. Taco and enchilada plate was probably the worst I’ve had in a while though. The enchilada sauce tasted like someone had started making pasta sauce by default and then halfway through was like, «Oh crap, that’s right, this is supposed to be Mexican food» and added a dash of Tapatio or something. The taco was a «where’s the beef» type situation, mostly sour cream and lettuce in an almost impenetrable shell. It may seem I’m being too hard on this place seeing as it’s one of the only Mexican joints in a small town in Northern California, but don’t worry, everyone else in town seemed to enjoy the hell out of the food and catching up with friends, so I doubt I’ll hurt anyone’s feelings too much.

The only thing decent is the nachos(which are very American, but still tasty). Food tastes like hospital cafeteria Mexican food. In my experience, certain waitresses don’t give you very good service if you are young. My husband and I(25) got ignored and ran out of salsa while we watched an older couple next to us get treated great by our same waitress.

The best mexican food in Fortuna! and one of the best in Humboldt County. They have great service, really really great food, and the service is awesome. I’ve never been there when it was really really busy but go in there during a slow time and you will go back FOREVER! Just thinking about it makes me want to drive right down there to eat!!! YUMMY!
