Went for a quick lunch the other day and it was really good… always love that salad bar and since I went right when they opened before the lunch rush I got hot food and excellent service. Such a nice young man waited on me. It was refreshing, because it’s hard to find people who have good customer service skills and are naturally friendly. Hit or miss here but when it hits, it’s good!

I’m not one to complain, what so ever. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. To start off my fiancées plate and mine were SOUNBELIEVABLYSTICKY. We ordered the Teriyaki chicken, and the Hunan beef. Chicken, was so incredibly chewy, it tasted wrong, and was just so disgusting. The beef was okay tasting, until my fiancé picked up a piece that was RED and RAW — uncooked — in the middle with white goo coming out of it. The service was horrible, no offer too help and find a solution to our problem, nothing. Microwaveable Chinese food is by far better than this. Beware. Your better off eating else ware, and saving your money! Wait the 25 extra minutes at a GOOD restaurant.

Basic Chinese food in a simple setting. Portions are decent sized, service is attentive without being intrusive. Prices are very reasonable. Seems to be popular with the locals, too. I recommend it.

Good food and service. Looks like a science classroom inside. Spiders and spider webs throughout. Could use a good cleaning. Walls, ceilings and the carpets.

Pure crap. Flavorless, not fresh, and possibly frozen from a box. They probably use the same oil for years.

I came here twice with my family during our visit in Fortuna. I was sick and needed something warm to eat. The food here is actually not bad. It is only slightly Americanized. I felt that the soups were a tad too salty and had too much sesame oil. We had the beef and broccoli rice plate and another one with chicken and snow peas and they were both very good. The beef was very tender. The prices are very reasonable. Unlike another reviewer said, they do have English speaking waiters, and they are all very accommodating. In fact, it’s probably the nicest service I ever got in a Chinese restaurant in particular. Our visit was surprisingly good and I would come back if I ever visit Fortuna again.

The lunch special offers a lot of food for a reasonable price. The quality seems to have dropped lately.

Hunan’s has been a staple in Fortuna– I’ve been here probably 20 times(actually, probably more), because it’s one of the only restaurants my grandparents will eat at that doesn’t serve meatloaf. It’s standard-fare Chinese-food-in-America. MANY vegetarian options that are solid. Large portions, decently priced, sweet owners. It’s not going to blow your mind, but you’re eating Chinese food in Fortuna, so let’s put this in context.

Decent Chinese food. We ordered Hunan Chicken, Mongolian Beef, and BBQ’d Pork Chow Mein. The Pork Chow Mein was really good, so was the Mongolian Beef, but the Hunan Chicken was horrible. The Hunan Chicken was probably the worst I’ve ever had. The bathrooms are very clean. The carpet in the dinning room is disgustingly dirty. The owners need to take some time to get the carpet cleaned or better yet, rip it out, and replace it with tile. The waitstaff is friendly, and the parking is decent. I was very surprised by how big this restaurant is, it’s huge! The food came out quickly. I’d probably eat here again, but I’d skip the Hunan Chicken.

This is the only Chinese restaurant I’ve found that serves imperial chicken. They also do imperial tofu for my wife and you hippies. Best crab cheese puffs I’ve ever tasted. I’ve yet to find a better Chinese spot. Nice banquet room for parties/meetings. Great lunch menu with reasonable prices.

Overall pretty good food and pretty good dining experience. They charge for refills on your drinks with the exception of coffee and iced tea. Other than that food is good service is relatively fast.

Taking into consideration that Hunan Village serves the very specific genre of Americanized Chinese inspired food, I was well pleased by my recent lunch with granny here. The portions are beyond generous.(And I am a girl who can eat!) The meal was preceded by a very peppery hot and sour soup, which ‘hit the spot’ on a rainy Humboldt day. I ordered the Szechuan Prawns. The prawns were really prawns, not sad little shrimp. And they were plentiful. The veggies were fresh. Unfortunately, the dish had the slightly American taste of the sauce that is more sweet than spicy. My grandmother enjoys their Moo Goo Gai Pan, and it did look tasty. I would come here again, order the same dish(and perhaps just ask for it without the sweet sauce).

I was here mid August while visiting Redwood National Park. I would say this is the best Chinese restaurant in Fortuna. Good Service and clean restrooms! Food is excellent! Highly recommended!

Of all the things I miss about living in Fortuna — my friends, my family, the weather(no, that’s not a typo) — I think I miss Hunan’s Chinese Chicken Salad the most. OK, maybe not the most, but it’s in the top ten. Right below Hunan’s lunch special. And Hunan’s Po-Po Platter. Wait… could Hunan’s BE my top ten list?

The place was full for Mothers’ Day dinner celebrations, so we gathered the food must be good as well. We weren’t entirely wrong, but it was more of an average dining experience than a «Yay! I’m a fan of the place» one. The egg rolls were refried, greasy and bland, the schezuan vegetables were good, the vegetable fried rice so-so and the sake warm, but not strong. Service, on the other hand, was very good.

Having lived near Fortuna most of my life, I have eaten at Hunan’s at least 10 times every year for at least 10 years… so, 100 times. I have since moved to the Bay Area and tasted the world here. However, I have to say that the Chinese Chicken Salad is still my standard when I go to restaurants here. My dad loves the Kung Pao Chicken… and mom loves the Tofu and Veggies. Just be sure you ask them to go light on the garlic… they have a heavy hand. If you are visiting the area, I would say this is one of your better options for dining.
