This place puts a little bit of country into your heart. It feels like you are going back in time, to when cowboys ruled the streets. You are greated by the smell of open flames and some nonchalant hosts. The wait times can be long so go early or make a reservation. They will send you a text when your table is ready, so you can go grab a drink or wander the shops nearby. I had the prime rib and it was cooked how I requested, but lacked any depth in flavor. I was glad to have the side of au jus and horseradish to give it a flavor boost. If you are in the area craving some steak I would recommend it.

We were here on a Saturday night. We put our name in around 6 and got a text that our table was ready around 6:30, which was just about the timeframe they told us when we checked in. I thoroughly enjoyed this place. I had a gigantic margarita and it was delicious. We were off to a good start. I ordered the Wife of Kit Carson soup, which was your basic tortilla soup. Just not really my thing. My boyfriend’s name is Kit and his brother is Carson so I HAD to try it. I also got chicken thighs appetizer, I think it was called lip smackin’ and it was! The chicken was very tasty. My boyfriend got prime rib, also an excellent choice. I left without my leftovers and made it across the street before I realized my terrible mistake and turned around. I went back to ask for them and was pleased that they handed them to me and we were on our way. I’d go back. It was a good meal, fun atmosphere, good service.

One of the best steakhouses I’ve been to in a long time! We normally stay next-door at the(awesome) Stockyards Hotel — but could never get a seat at H3 due to the extensive waits. The way we viewed it — the food must be good if folks are willing to wait 60 – 90 minutes on a Friday /Saturday with so much competition close by. We finally got a table and it was definitely worth it! My 12 oz Ribeye came with skillet potatoes and both were exceptional. The steak was tender, cooked to order and seasoned perfectly! Between the salad, potatoes and the steak, I left completely stuffed and satisfied. My rib-eye was $ 38 which was on the lower end of the steak offerings. Although more than I typically pay — it was definitely well worth it for a high quality steak. My son ordered the chicken fried steak and it was massive and delicious! The gravy and breading were perfect compliments to the huge steak. Overall, our total tab for two adults(1 glass each of beer /wine), an 11 and 13 year old was $ 95 — which is not bad considering the quality and location. The entire dining room is a large square with nice views of Commerce and Exchange. The wood-fire stove is visible to the room and the décor was western/rustic. My only complaint(if you want to call it that) was open concept led to high noise levels. All in all, the noise factor was absolutely minimal compared to the wonderful dining experience! H3 comes highly recommended…

We were at the Stockyards for the Rodeo on a Saturday night and wanted a place to eat beforehand. We did not have any reservations, which in hindsight, is a must at any of the places in the stockyards. The wait here was 1.5 hours, but we were lucky enough to find some seats at the end of the bar. We ordered typical bar food: chicken strips, fries, etc. and it wasn’t bad. The service was friendly, but slow at times since they were so busy. It was a good atmosphere and representative of the stockyards vibe. Next time, we’ll make reservations!

Great food! The VIP platter was well worth it$ 19.95 for 3 tacos, 3pc of chicken, 3cheese tostadas! So filling! Ribs & sausage were excellent and seasoned perfectly. Beans were soooooo good! And the frozen mug of local Rahr beer was the best!

Delicious meal and great service at H3 Ranch! We had a bit of trouble finding this place, which used to be called booger red’s saloon. All the good reviews for the previous incarnation of this restaurant apply. I had the spit-roastered chicken and grilled corn. The meat was moist and full of flavor. My husband had the brisket, which he said was as good as the best brisket in our home town of Austin. Dad had the char-grilled pork chop, it was tender and smokey. The dining room is a beautiful space. All wood and a bit of Texas kitch. We say near the big fire where the chickens were roasting, perfect for a cold Texas day. I was expecting a crappy meal since the restaurant is located smack bang in the middle of touristville, but it really was wonderful.

Really cool western restaurant right in the stockyards. You can look out the window and watch the people/tourists and Cowboys walk/ride by. Lots of animal heads on the wall, and meat options on the menus hey don’t seem to have a kids menu, or didn’t offer one for our almost 3 yr old. They do have high chairs though. Husband ordered steak and I ordered the prime rib. Really tasty and plenty of options, they have ribs, crab legs and lobster as well. fairly expensive though. Possibly due to the touristy location. Both of our meats came with a baked potato and a salad, mine also included corn but it was dry and not very tasty. You also get hot crusty bread and butter as an appetizer. Our bill was about $ 90 with tip for both our dinners and soda. For that kind of money I’d rather go to SilverFox… Or Saltgrass which is even cheaper and better food. However I suppose you get up charged for the western ambiance and tourist location.

Three words: CHICKEN. FRIED. STEAK! Before coming to Texas I had never heard of this dish, and actually couldn’t imagine fried steak. I was told that this place had the best one so I gave it a shot. And it was amazing! I could eat that meal three times a day for the rest of my life. It was delicious. The restaurant was really cool too. Right in the Fort Worth Stockyard area, this place had an authentic Texas feel but with a casual/upscale touch. The bar was lively and fun. The menu was diverse and reasonably priced. If I’m ever back in Fort Worth this will be my first stop!

I gave it a 4 stars because haven’t tried much. This is my second time here n I havd to have the Cedar grilled salmon again. So aromatic n tastes so good! I love there mushrooms as sides, because it’s so flavorful. I didn’t have to add anything to it. I also got pork ribs as appetizer, which was to the drier side but very tasty! Would come back everytime in town for sure! Service was great too!

Went here for our anniversary. I had the porterhouse and my wife had the sirloin. We had the least expensive Cabernet they had which was surprisingly good. Baked potato, salad and bread were all great. Steak was well seasoned and cooked correctly(medium rare). Service was good and the atmosphere was nice. Great place to bring visitors when going to the stockyards. We will be back.

Had our lunch in this famous dining place during our visit to Fort Worth stockyards. We ordered a Ribeye steak medium rare with the skillet potatoes. Also ordered a smoke pork ribs appetizer and the unique sweet chicken thighs. The ribeye doneness was good. Could be even better if it is slightly more rare. The meat was accompanied by the dipping sauce of steak juice that made it even more juicy when eaten. Frankly, this was not the best steak I have tried but given the price, the quality was reasonable. I liked the sides of nicely grilled potatoes with some onions and a red sweet pepper. For the ribs, it was above average though the marinating rub was worth mentioning. For the sweet chicken thighs, it was one of the best I have tried so far. Three deep fried thighs, coated with a layer of sweet spicy sauce and grilled till e layer was caramelised. Served with a sweet and sour BBQ sauce. It was heavenly. I could easily down another three if not for my guilt conscious mind. Also worth mentioning was the overall ambience of this place. Very cowboy-style décor with many patrons dressed in cowboy attires or hats. Interesting dining place for the experience if not for the succulent, finger licking sweet chicken thighs.

Had dinner on Tuesday and a late lunch on Wednesday. The Mexicali was great. The 8oz steak was perfectly cooked, the beans and tamales were good. That is why we went back for lunch. Mistake, I tried the ribs and sausage plate. The only thing that was slightly warm was the beans. The ribs, sausage, and corn on the cob were cold. My wife tried the fried Catfish and she was very disappointed as well. Her fries looked as if they had been made an hour earlier. All in all not consistent very disappointed.

The service is the worst I’ve ever experienced! This comes from a former waiter that honestly is the most easy going, good natured person. I have to think a big part of the reason is that I was there with my husband of 10 years and we sat next to each other rather than across from each other at the table(not a booth!). None of the homophobic staff ever came to get our order. When seating us, they walked past several open and clean tables by the bar to presumably sit us ‘out of sight’. I finally went to the bar and ordered a drink and a piece of pie to-go(After the ordeal, I took one bite of it at home and it was not eatable at all). There was a ton of waitstaff but nobody ever stopped by and after I saw people order, get their food, and finish… it became obvious that they just didn’t want to serve us. They were not on a wait and this was before 7pm. I went to cancel the order after roughly 30 minutes and miraculously the pie showed up… Mind you, I was there in cowboy boots and don’t believe I give any hint that I might be gay in the least,(possibly) other than sitting next to my husband. The funny thing is that I work for the railroad, have two masters degrees, make six figures, am probably more ‘straight’ than 9 out of 10 straight guys I know; and only have to deal with this BS in the s***hole of Cowtown. I plan on letting EVERYONE I know(thousands…) to either boycott this POS restaurant and/or getting a ton of ‘my kind’ to orchestrate ‘group’ visits where we order water and the cheapest thing on the menu. Karma is real and she’s a motha’…

For those that don’t use steak sauce and believe that anything over medium rare is a sin: If you’re looking for pure, unadulterated meat without the fancy seasonings, H3 has the best ribeye in DFW. Beyond the steak, the sides are fantastic. The bread is amazing, the salad comes with more than just iceberg lettuce, the baked potatoes can be loaded to your liking, and the corn is super tasty.

It’s one of the things that you have to try once. My parents came to visit me in Texas, having never been here before, and I took them to the stockyards. Love the over-the-top Texas theme but why, oh why, is the food here so god awful? Everything about this area screams tourist trap and I should have heeded the mediocre Unilocal reviews and taken them elsewhere. But we are victims of consumerism naïveté and were quickly sucked into the tourist trap of this area, wanting to try the famous Texas steak. We got two of their $ 45 bone-in ribeyes and boy, they were disappointing. Flavorless, lackluster meat, a better cut could have been found at the local grocery store for under $ 10. The décor was wonderful. The bread was the best part of this visit. And the waitress was friendly. I guess this is one of those places that you go once, learn your lesson, and never go again. But at least now you can rest easy for the rest of your time in Texas knowing that, you ate at the stockyards and it wasn’t that great.

I would have rated this place 1 Star, but they amazingly redeemed themselves at the very last moment. We went on a Saturday evening around 6pm(at the request of friends) and had to wait over an hour just get inside. –Strike One. Once inside, it was crazy loud and the service was really, really, slow. The waitress commented, «Yeah, it’s always like this» and walked away without filling my tea. –Strike Two. Of the six people in our party, three ordered Chicken Fried Steak and everyone said it was tough and full of gristle. One ordered Spit-Roasted Chicken and said it was OK. I ordered the fried catfish and it was a soggy, greasy, pile of nastiness. So, that brings us to the last person in our party who ordered a filet. Imagine that, someone goes to a steakhouse and actually orders a steak! Five of us were sitting around bitching about the long wait, slow service and crappy food… while my buddy devoured his«delicious» filet. He cut me off a piece to sample and OMFG… this might have been the most tender, flavorful, heavenly, piece of steak I’ve ever tasted. Seriously, I’ll go back and fight through the long wait just to order a filet. My mouth is watering just writing this review.

Because of my experience this restaurant gets 5 stars, bare with me bc I want to say allot! My husband and I were celebrating our 16th wedding Anniversary and we stopped in after much deliberation on where to eat steak in the land of steak, FORTWORTHTEXASYALL! So we walked in because it looks like a fun place, what attracted me is the windows are very large, enough to see their awesome brick oven with the fire blazing from outside. Although the place was slammed we were very joyfully greeted by four hostesses all smiling and very kind. These ladies were on top of their game. It was a 45 minute wait and they took our phone number down so we could go to the bar across the street and listen to the live music while we waited it out.(THANKYOU! Because my husband and I took my most fav picture of the night there) 30 minutes later we were seated at a bar table. The bar was epic nice, but some crazy cowboy was a little too excited about the saddle style bar chair he was mounted upon LOL!!! My husband sat down and I said no, we will wait for a better table. So I went by the hostess station and begged to be moved and with kindness they moved us to the perfect table beneath three huge bison heads. I felt very secure with Larry Moe and Curly watching over us as we had the best waitress, food, and service that we have EVER experienced at any restaurant we have ever been to. I cannot say enough about how special they made our night. One thing I know, They have enough front and back house staff to conquer the world, either that or the key people they have in place know exactly how to bring it! Mmmm! I loved the bread, crusty yet soft. The tacos & nachos with the sweet thighs, delish!(My hubby loved the simplicity of the nacho, guys don’t change this!) The T bone melted in my mouth, needed no seasoning(I have been known to ask for A1 simply bc I like it) but that would have been a disgrace in this place at this time, and I didn’t even think about it. Our drinks were continuously refilled, the waitress was very kind, very quick, and very knowledgeable of the menu. Shoot, even the busser had a smile like he was super happy to be there. BRAVOH3RANCH!!! You represent Cowtown in such an amazing way! Thank you for such an awesome dinner and for making my Anniversary a night to remember.

I could have checked out a Stephan Pyles spot, or maybe one of the places on the Dallas Eater 38, or that one restaurant that does pig head carnitas(ok, I do regret missing that one) but no… I wanted the most touristy, stereotypical, cowboy joint in DFW and I fucking found it! Hunter Bros H3 Ranch was all that and then some. Seriously, this is the kind of place would set up a speed dating event at and then the guys would either brawl over the girls at the bar in front of the huge buffalo’s ass or they’d duel on the street. The awesomeness of the Fort Worth Stockyards totally fed into my whole yeehaw state of mind. Beer, hunks of meat, and a lively atmosphere drenched in country music had me ready to slam 3 shots of whiskey, wear Wranglers, buy a belt with the biggest buckle ever, and then join a line dance. I crushed the«Cattle Baron Cut», a monstrous 16 ounces of prime rib seasoned with cracked pepper. It was damn juicy and having been slow roasted on a live hickory spit brought out the excellent wood flavor I was hankerin’ for. I passed on the horseradish and side sauce to simply enjoy the beef straight up. The wonderfully buttery, roasted ear of corn, loaded baked potato, and house salad with Thousand Island dressing rounded out the meal to make me as full as a bull. I’d gladly return for more!

I made a special trip to Fort Worth with some friends for this restaurant. This is NOT a two $$ steakhouse, try revising to $$$. It’s bad when a Cattlemen’s restaurant in northern California beats this expensive Texas restaurant, hands down. I had the 16oz prime rib, come on guys, this is Texas, 16oz really, that’s a appetizer and for the price I would expect at least double the amount. The porterhouse was a bigger joke, 18oz is the largest size when I could get better beef in California and at 28−32oz and a endless salad, baked beans and bread that is to die for with real butter not the mix stuff we got here. Very disappointed in this supposed highly rated restaurant. I don’t know what they have been feeding you here but I would not recommend this restaurant. The décor however was very nice, but the food was very underwhelming.

We took some out of town friends to the Fort Worth Stockyards. After looking at several menus in the area, we decided to give H3 a try. I was a little hesitant thinking it could be an overpriced tourist trap, but we were pleasantly surprised. The décor and ambiance were nice — exactly what you’d expect from an authentic Texas-style steakhouse. Our friendly server brought us a delicious loaf of bread and butter as we browsed the menu. A few of us ordered the house salad with ranch. The ranch dressing tasted homemade and had a wonderful peppery flavor. Our entrees were large, very flavorful and the presentation was nice. The 12 oz. smoked sirloin I ordered was cooked to perfection and had a very unique flavor. The server came over with a tray of toppings for us to select for our baked potato. We also shared a half order of ribs. They meat fell off the bone and our friends agreed that they were some of the best ribs they have ever had. We would absolutely go back for a date night or with out of town friends.

The atmosphere is the right amount of kitsch and cowtown elegance. The place has humor and high end food, an unusual combo. I’m pretty sure the bread is made of magic or crack. The wood fired grill is an impressive sight. We also enjoyed the barstools made with saddles. The kobe steak was okay. We should have ordered it rarer then we did. The shrimp was overcooked, badly. The rib was perfect! The smoked sausage was, literally, the best sausage I have ever had. I could eat a bucket of those with just some of the house bread. In short: the cheapest menu items were far and away the best. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the stellar staff. Our server was knowledgeable, offered to take a pic of us when she realized we were touristing the place, had our meal halved for us to share(we split the kobe and a bunch of sides), and thought of everything we could need. And I walked out with soda in a to go cup. She was amazing. I sincerely wish I remembered her name. Awesome service.

Great atmosphere. Very Texan and smells wonderful. You simply can’t beat the location for that touristy yet mostly authentic Texan feel. The bar, which is separated by a partial wall, has a real funky Western vibe. You can sit on a saddle(not real comfortable, but fun) as you stare at the buffalo butt sticking out of the wall. The food was good. I’ve had their chicken fried steak several times, it is always delicious. The service is good. I recall their cobbler in a pot being simply divine and recommended. Barbecue was a little overcooked, but I tend toward like my meat cooked medium to medium well. It was still a little overcooked for my taste. This place can come across as a tourist trap, but I have been all over Texas my whole life. They had some authentic items on the wall representing various aspects of Texas, Texas life and history, and found it to be fun, especially the antler chandeliers. The first time I saw an antler chandelier was at the King Ranch home in their pool house. These reminded me of the King Ranch antlers, so I would suggest it is authentic atmosphere overall. I recommend this place. Can’t say anything stood out with any visit, other than the location and atmosphere, but never found anything to be bad or undesirable either. Been here several times, good place to eat when in the Stockyards.
