common ground is the best bar/restaurant in town… I recommend trying Morgan’s special… to die for!

Oh Common Ground, I don’t know what happened to you. Your service and quality of food have seriously dipped. I’ve given you multiple chances in the last couple of months and you disappointed me each time. One time, we ordered the TCU Caesar salad, Patty melt, and grilled cheese. The Caesar salad was flavorless. It tasted like the chef stopped caring. The patty melt and grilled cheese were just mediocre. Also, the food took over 30 minutes to come out and we were the only ones ordering food. The most recent time was a Monday for dinner. There were about 4 other couples there. We ordered the Scallops & grits and the 3B burger. It took 30 minutes to come out. Very disappointing. The 3B burger was below average. It was very dry. They didn’t even ask how we wanted it cooked. They should always do that! As for my scallops, they were slightly overcooked and completely overpowered by the chimichurri sauce. I ended up taking it off so I could actually taste the scallops. The grits were so creamy that I used the chimichurri to lighten the flavor and balance out the cream. It was a disappointing dish. Overall, Common Ground has decreased in quality and I can no longer recommend it for food. I think they only have one cook and that’s why it takes forever for the food to come out. Despite this, they have a great atmosphere and cocktail menu that are probably keeping them in business. If you do get hungry while your here, their herbed fries are very tasty and I haven’t had any problems with those!

Great service and super friendly staff. We both had burgers which were delicious. Nice wine list. Both had a cocktail which were top notch!

Excellent service. I thought the menu was a little limited – especially for those who do not eat red meat. But everything was very savory and well presented. Wine prices are excellent and there is a good selection of beer. The outdoor patio looks nice for the winter – not so great when it is 90 degrees out. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside. The musicians were just setting up as we were leaving. I am hoping that this place will be discovered soon – it was well worth the trek from Keller.

Just ate at the place. Great service and a cute waitress! Who can ask for more. BLT was great. Super friendly and great décor. Definitely will go back, maybe even tonight.

Made the trek from north FW down here after we found a groupon. Neither one of us had been to the TCU area and saw some pretty good Unilocal reviews. Big bonus that they have a small parking garage dedicated just to this bar/grill. I think we got lucky since school is out because there was no wait and it was barely half full on a Saturday night. We chose the patio since it was such a nice night. The same guy that sat us down immediately took our drink order. The inside is a really nice bar with quite a few tables. Patio is nice too except they weren’t the most comfortable chairs. Didn’t bother me though. We both had drafts to drink and ordered the fried green tomatoes. I was really impressed with them. Tasted fresh and had a great batter on them. Big slices of tomatoes too. The dipping sauce was what sent it over the top. A little tangy and perfect touch. I ordered the patty melt and my better half ordered the Bleu cheeseburger. I opted for the regular fries and she ordered their special fries. Can’t remember the name of them. When our food came out it looked amazing. The fries come in a BIG bag and they are small cut but AMAZING! I’ve read some reviews that weren’t favorable but being a fire afficiando… they were the bomb! Crunchy and packed full of favor. The burgers were really good. The only thing negative I could say is that we both made the comment to each other we prefer hamburger patties that are hand formed. The meat is good but there’s something missing. Maybe a little seasoning. The waitstaff was really good and the dinner was good. If you’re in the area it’s worth a shot.

Ate there May 7, 2016. There were a couple of large parties inside, so we sat on the patio. The patio was nice, but I found the chairs to be extremely uncomfortable. The back sits at a weird reclined angle. This was particularly annoying because our food(4 burgers) took forever. Like an easy 45 minutes. And that was after waiting 15 or so minutes to order. The manager did give us a couple of free deserts to make up for it. Fortunately we weren’t in a hurry and just chilled. When the food did come, it was tasty, but they messed up on requests to put some sauces on the side. We didn’t complain because we didn’t want to risk another long wait to get it the way we wanted. Then, after we had eaten, the waiter came by and mentioned he was a vegan(not sure how the conversation lead to that) and how meat is ruining the planet. I don’t think he intended to «meat shame» us, but there is nothing like enjoying a burger to then be told how your menu choices are harming the planet. And it was an enjoyable burger. All in all, it was a mediocre dining experience. The food was good, but not that good. We didn’t try the drinks at all, so the bar may be nice. But there are so many other burger choices in Fort Worth that are better.

I have been here before and have always had great food. A new menu was released in the last few days and looks amazing. The chicken wings are AMAZING! The patty melt was also very good– better then expected! Atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. Great place to grab a drink or food– whatever your mood.

Our first visit to Common Ground was a Sunday at 6PM. Like everyone else on Unilocal,we had high expectations that this would be a high traffic place for TCU students. Even at prime dinner time, we were the only patrons here for probably 30 minutes of our dinner. The décor and location are great, but I was shocked at how limited the menu is – probably 10 dinner selections in total if I had to guess from memory. Starting with drinks, I had the Dirty Pickle and I was sooo disappointed. There was almost NO pickle flavor and it honestly tasted like water – more specifically, the cucumber water served in carafe dispensers at fancy parties. This place earned 3 stars because of my BLT. The bacon was plentiful and crispy, egg fried perfectly runny, and the bread was toasted and delicious. My boyfriend got the Common Burger, which was very well done, but still juicy. «Mediocre» in his words. Luckily our hostess/waitress/bartender was great – she was running the place for everyone. I didn’t see any other employee. We MIGHT return for a casual drink and afternoon BLT.

We came for a quiet Sunday brunch and did get the quiet part. The service was really slow. We couldn’t tell if it was the waiter or the kitchen. He would carry out one or two things at a time. My order was the asparagus, poached Eggs Benedict, coffee, and juice. The coffee never came. The dish was five small spears asparagus and not poached eggs, poached egg. And we both ordered hollandaise on the side. It was on the dish, although with such little flavor it was hard to tell it was there. It was Easter Sunday, but was only about ½ full, so we couldn’t blame it on the crowds. This place may get better, but not yet. We came here this morning because Shaw’s doesn’t take reservations. We should have waited in line.

The service was HORRIBLE! I’m still trying to decide if it was a joke. Never written a review before, but it was so bad it is worth noting. Gave my husbands mimosa glass to another table. Refilled it and handed it to someone else. Gross. Food was fine but we won’t be coming back.

We have been here over an hour and 15 minutes. We know how tired the waiter is and what shift he works and where he comes from… but still no good. The waiter told me that our food was plated 20 minutes ago. Every table of people who arrived after us has been served. I hate when people lie. It had better be good. But NO restaurant is worth the wait.

Just got home from giving Common Ground a second chance, and we are really glad that we went back! Service was friendly and prompt, and our server made good suggestions. The food came out all at the same time after just 15minutes, and the orders were all accurate. So happy to report they have apparently fixed their issues in Kitchen, I’m guessing there are some new employees back there. My son had a common burger, it was HUGE, and the meat had some great flavors. I’m thinking maybe some Worcestershire. It looked overcooked, but was in fact very juicy. The bun was almost like eating cake it was so soft and buttery. Cheese melted perfectly. Fries were good. My wife had the BLT, Bacon, arugula, fried egg, and tomato on huge slices of sourdough. Huge sandwich. I wasn’t as hungry so I got a wedge. It had sundries tomatoes, which was a creative and delicious addition. They used bib lettuce, which was plenty crispy and a interesting and good departure from traditional iceberg. Perhaps a few more vitamins as well lol. We told the manager Robin how much better this experience was and she seemed genuinely pleased. It must be frustrating to open a beautiful new restaurant and have so many issues in the first few weeks, but I do think they are over the hump and you should consider checking them out friends and fellow Unilocalers.

Good food and really cheap drinks. Had their quail and waffles and it was delicious. Slightly pricey food, but other than that I can’t complain. Can’t wait until the do the expansion!

Well, the food may be great, but we will never know. One hour and 15 minutes after we were seated, we finally walked out. Wait staff and bar were visiting instead of working, and I assume that must be what was happening in the kitchen. Is there a manager on site?

I almost wanted to give it one star. I had the set dinner on NYE and everything came out so fast I wonder how long it had been sitting. The lobster was over cooked. The lobster bisque soup didn’t have any lobster flavor only tomato. It’s nice and pretty on the location so maybe just go to drink or maybe I just went the wrong day to have food since it was a set menu

I was afraid this place would be overwhelmed by a crowd of college kids but so far, I’ve been wrong about that. I live within walking distance and met friends for drinks one night. I had a great Moscow Mule and a Meantini(sp?). While we didn’t get food, I looked at the menu and saw many items that peaked my interest. Sort of a gastropub on a different level, I thought. The décor was great, and the staff was very friendly. I’m guessing the prices of this place keep out more of the college crowd, but it’s not overly expensive, «adult prices» I’ll say. Just as we were getting the check, a DJ was setting up in the corner. I wondered what the later crowd would be like… Anyway, I’ll be back to try the food.

I really like all 3 of the restaurants that are connected. However, Common Ground maybe my favorite. When Dagwood’s Grinders and Growlers opened we hit it 4 weekends in a row. We went to Common Ground the week of Thanksgiving and hit it twice that week. The staff and service are great. The food is tasty and flavorful. The sweet corn soup is a standout. It wasn’t on the brunch menu but the chef fixed up a bowl of it for us. They are also looking for ways to interact with the neighborhood. I think that says a lot for them. I’m looking forward to seeing how this restaurant grows and matures. Keep up the great work.

I am so so excited to have a new«usual-esque» bar show up on the scene. As someone who lives within walking distance to this place and others, I have been dying for a bar that is close enough to walk to, but is still nice enough to keep me coming back. While there are a few places that I sometimes frequent(like. 2), this is so much more convenient, bright, and inviting for a casual drink with a few friends. As a result, I can’t really review the food. I’ve so far only tried three items off the menu — the chicken puffs, the meatballs, and the grilled cheese. The chicken puffs are good, but not what I was expecting — they remind me of a potsticker wrapped in a flaky, puff pastry crust and given an American flair. The only think I wish was different was that rather than the chimichurri sauce be baked into the puff, it was provided as a dipping sauce on the side(but maybe I just really, really like chimichurri). The meatballs honestly aren’t worth your time — you get four tiny meatballs, and if they were anything like the order I got, they’re super dry. Maybe they should be larger? Maybe they were overcooked? Maybe they should be served in a sauce(can you tell I really like sauces)? I don’t know. My favorite thing by far is the grilled cheese, but that could easily be due to the fact that it’s stuffed full of thick cut bacon. In fact, I know it is. Sometimes it’s hard to find good bacon, but Common Ground serves it up delicious and they serve it in plentiful amounts. The bartenders I’ve met, Brett and Russell, are both very nice and had no problems stuffing my olives with Gorgonzola cheese for my extra dirty martini. Their happy hour seems pretty solid as far as house wines, well liquors, beer etc, but I wish it catered a bit more to their cocktail menu, which looks delicious. As far as I can tell, the only relevant discount is $ 0.50 off liquor, which seems a little weak compared to other bars/restaurants in the area. I look forward to seeing this bar flourish; this seems like a very promising addition to the neighborhood, and I can’t wait to try out the rest of their menu(as well as their brunch menu!).
