Medical City Children’s Hospital Urgent Care

EVERYONE here is wonderful! I wish they were full time providers. From Callje at the front desk to the amazing Nurse practitioner and great Dr. crow! I know my children are in Great hands!!!

I brought my 3 year old daughter here last week as she had a bad cough, her pediatrician was closed, and I had heard from some local moms on Facebook that this was a good urgent care for kids. Unfortunately, I cannot say I had the same experience as them. Overall the inside is not very clean and the equipment used is pretty dated. They used small handheld devices that attached to her finger to monitor her oxygen level. They switched out the equipment they were using to read her oxygen three different times and all three pieces of equipment gave a different reading, so there was no way of knowing which one was right. After 4 breathing treatments and a dose of steroids and their equipment reading her oxygen was still below normal, they told us we needed to go to an Emergency Room at a local hospital. I asked why and they said because her oxygen is too low to go home and they cannot treat her anymore. I asked if her oxygen levels could be read at home and they said no and if we don’t bring her to the hospital within 15 minutes they will have to call the police and CPS on us. I was shocked to get this response after asking one question, which any parent wanting to get more information would ask. We had my 6 month old daughter with us and I didn’t want to bring her to the hospital ER due to other sicknesses that were there, which I didn’t want her to catch, so I asked the nurse if we could drop her at home first with me and then have my husband proceed to bring my 3 year old to the ER. She said yes. Minutes later the NP, Jenn, came in and said we can’t go home first and we have 15 minutes to be at the ER. The ER they told us to go to was 15 minutes away and it was raining outside, so I asked if we could have 30 minutes, just in case, and she said yes. I, as a parent, felt very violated by the way I was spoken to and am shocked that I was treated like this, as I clearly care about my children’s health and am trying to do what is best, which can be seen by me taking her to this Urgent Care in the first place. When we arrived at the ER in the hospital, her oxygen levels read normal. Thus, I don’t even know if their equipment was working in the first place. She also showed no signs of stressful breathing when they said her oxygen levels were low. That was my first and last visit at Medical City in Flower Mound.
