Got to say I was really impressed with my meal there, the lobster macaroni and cheese was really divine! The dining room was really clean and the service was polite and quick. A good place to eat overall but more fitting for a special occasion price wise for their dinners.

This is a great middle of the road restaurant. A wide variety of greasy fried bar foods, appetizers, hearty soups, healthy salads down to a juicy well cut steak. I had the lobster Mac’n’Cheese which left me satisfied and would definitley recommend, talk about comfort food. A good crispy top, plenty of lobster chunks inside, smooth sauce, and served nice and hot. The salmon was delicious, not overly garnished or seasoned. Burgers are cooked to expectation, and pressed to a digestable size. Nothing about this place impressed me to my knees but what makes it a great choice are the following: Pleasant servers, tasty menu options with good variety, respectable beer, whiskey, and wine selection, a nice divide between people there for the game and those who are there for a nice white tablecloth dining experience, and awesome deals like the buck and shuck dollar oysters and $ 5 craft beers on Sundays, you cant beat that! I would certainly recommend Jakes to any friends passing through the Flemington area. Another plus, the bathrooms are clean. Nothing is worse than a nice place with a swampy, slimy bathroom. My recommendations: Maybe spruce up the outside décor with a fresh paintjob, get rid of the nasty smokers station, put your pint glasses for the bar on something nicer than a metal rack with cardboard, and open some windows! I find it a little weird that no outside light can get in this place. Other than these trivial items you guys do a fine job. Keep the variety on that beer and food menu and I’ll certainly be back.

Jakes has some good dishes and a decent beer selection, but they need to call John Taffer. It hasn’t changed it’s menu since I moved to the area 20 years ago.

My wife and I stopped by for lunch. We were impressed. Décor is OK, background music was older pop. White tablecloth place. Service was fine. Sixteen beers on tap; I had a 21st Amendment IPA; my wife had a Yuengling. Many bottled beers. My wife had the German style pork cutlet which was fine. I had the fish and chips which were excellent. Normally we prefer BYOB places; but we will be back. Very nice place.

Jakes is a nice little restaurant in Flemington. Food is obviously better than the chain restaurants which have popped up in abundance. The bar is also decent if you want to catch the game considering there are no sports bars in the area. Sometimes they have decent bands as well.

The Jakes Steak is the best thing on the menu. Delicious! Décor is outdated, needs some sprucing up

The service is slow — like way slow. That applies whether in the dining room or at the bar — the bar itself is quite large and definitely too big for the 1 – 2 bartenders that they’ll have working there(especially on a crowded weekend). Good beer list and nice specials — clams and oysters are good, the buffalo mac n cheese is EXCELLENT and when the lobster sliders show up on the specials, I tend to tuck them away. One thing of note about this place is that if you’re heading south on 202 it’s pretty much your last option for a decent meal until you get out to New Hope, PA(beyond it there’s a diner… that’s it)…so if you’re hungry and heading out that way, Jake’s is definitely a good stop. It’s not«the best» by any stretch, but the food is acceptable(if a touch overpriced in some cases) and the beer list is VERY good.

Bar area is the place to be; never sat in the restaurant but having no windows is dark to me, and offers no ambiance. Must haves: Jakes Pizza — my mouth salivate over this pizza! We get it with extra gorgonzal sauce — yum. Buffalo Calamari — another savory dish. Again extra gorgonzola sauce — just a bit spicy Steak Tip Salad — very refreshing and delicious salad Great beer selection

I remember going to jake’s when it first opened, nearly 25 years ago. Back then, it was THE spot in town. Returning after all this time, everything and nothing has changed. The exterior was shabby, not well maintained, with the front entrance appearing as if it has been kicked in a time or two. The windowless, dark interior with its drop ceiling, hunter green carpet, and dark wood was dated verging on dreary. We opted for the dining room instead of the bar area for a late lunch. The hostess and waitress were attentive and warm. We had a harvest salad with butternut squash, candied pecans, and grilled salmon($ 20), two steak sirloin sandwiches($ 18), and a chicken entrée with spinach and asparagus($ 11). The food featured high quality ingredients beautifully prepared and presented. I wish the same level of thought and attention to detail went into the ambience as the actual food, as it did impact our dining experience. 3.5 stars. Jake’s is no longer the«it» spot in town, but still a great place to get a well executed tasty meal.

Great choice for burger and beer. The calamari and chicken fingers are also very good. Good beer selection and service: not sure what the other reviewers were complaining about. Has local bar feel. Try to stop here whenever I find myself on 202.

We’ve been coming here on weekends for lunch for more than a decade. It’s usually only half full so no wait for seating. Good place for draught microbrews(though today the first 3 I ordered weren’t available), Cobb salads, house pizza, sandwiches and chicken tenders. I’ve tried higher end choices on previous visits but they’ve been average. They are a little heavy on the vermouth with their martinis and disappointingly when asked to remake the waiter brought back the same drink after a minute in the same glass but at least they removed it from the check.

Not bad if you enjoy everything breaded and fried. Service was not great. Haven’t tried the bar. Maybe that would be better.

Surprising good«hometown» bar! This has become a regular spot for us since moving to Ringoes. We almost always opt for the bar, amuse ourselves with trivia, and enjoy pub grub. Food: My husband loves the bar pies and the burgers don’t disappoint. I’m also a fan of the Cobb salad. I finally tried Jake’s tenders but didn’t see the hype. Desserts are yummy, wine pours are generous, and there’s a hefty selection of craft beer available. Service is usually prompt even when the place is jammed, and we’ve yet to have poor service(maybe aloof, but never negative). 4⁄5.

How much do I like Jake’s? I would visit my in-laws just to go there.(OK, I actually like my in-laws.) Why do I go to Jake’s? Jake’s Steak. I’ve only seen it mentioned in one other review, which seems strange — but I have never been there to go to the bar, I’ve always gone to the restaurant side. I will say it took me a while to order Jake’s Steak, because I usually dislike blackened anything. However, I had most of the other steaks and they were good, so one night when every person at the table ordered Jake’s Steak, I just gave in, and ordered it, as well. You should give in. Jake’s Steak is a blackened rib-eye. It is excellent. Most of the time, «blackened» ends up being over-seasoned for my taste, but I love the spices on this steak. It was cooked as requested, as well. Just say, «Jake’s Steak, medium rare.» It’s a really, really good steak, and I live in Dallas, so I eat a lot of steak. We went last night because my wife and I are in town for Thanksgiving. It was the one stop that was negotiated before any of the rest of the trip. A couple of years ago, I was coming up to New Jersey on business a couple of times a year, and every time I was in the State, I would take my in-laws for Jake’s Steak. There is only one person in the family that doesn’t love it, and she’s a vegetarian, so she just hasn’t tried it. Yet. It’s a pretty casual place, and the service is good, not always great. The prices do seem to have risen over the years, but I don’t think they are unreasonable. It was about $ 40 per person last night, and we all had appetizers(get the Clams Casino if they are available) and an entrée. So, I don’t think it is over-priced, although I wouldn’t go there every night. Unless I was just in town for a few days. I had never actually looked at the bar before last evening(I was trying to find one of my nieces) — it’s much larger than I had thought, so I could see stopping on the way home for a quick adult beverage. They do have a reasonable list of beers on tap. I’ve had my fair share of mixed drinks there, but always in the restaurant before dinner.(The drink special last night was Spiked Hot Cider and it was excellent.) Since I only visit up here at random times, I don’t have a lot in the area to compare it with, but it’s still my favorite restaurant in Flemington. Since I avoid chains when I can, there aren’t a lot of other choices, as has been noted elsewhere. It may look a bit lower scale from the outside, but the food makes up for the first appearances. Seriously, how many places do you know that will make someone say, «Why, yes, dear, I would love to go visit your family»?

Surprisingly good! I’ve driven by Jakes for years and saw the packed parking lot but thought people were just going for drinks. Recently, we had a party for a friend there, so I finally had the opportunity to try their restaurant. I have to admit, my wife and I were impressed. Most tavern/restaurants in the area are so-so, giving you mediocre food and expensive drinks. Jakes provides a solid value. Wines are generously poured and reasonably priced. The beer I had was a full pint. So we started off well. The appetizers and entrees we had were quite good. Keeping in mind that this is tavern food, we were pleasantly surprised by how fresh, tasty and well prepared things were. The prime rib is among the best I’ve had in the region in any restaurant. Flavorful and prepared to the desired temperature. Service has been exceptional and friendly both times we’ve been there. My only complaint is that they’re too far from home! If they were closer, we’d go there often, when we felt like something casual. But at least we now know about them and we’ll visit whenever we’re in the area.

I have been coming to this restaurant for at least 15 – 20 years! It has always been incredible! They have changed the menu and have gotten somewhat more expensive as you used to get a salad, plus entrée with 2 sides attached. Now you have an entrée and 2 sides, that’s all. Slightly annoying as it didn’t used to be like this, but the food is still really good. Even the added salad is delicious. Yummy blue cheese or ranch! You start with a basket of rolls and butter. Super yummy. Nice butter balls. As for the food, appetizers are delicious! I adore the Cabot Mac and cheese! It’s incredible. Order it. Split it with a friend but please get it– the best mac I have EVER had! I want the recipe. It’s amazing. Seriously!!! I will drive an hour just to order it!!! As for entrees, they are all delicious! Filet is amazing, with the mashed potatoes! Adore the tenderloin tips salad! I honestly have never had a bad meal here. The specials are delicious and the fish is always great. The dining room is incredibly different from the bar, but both have charm. I opt for the bar usually, but the dining room is lovely if you want a more formal experience. Best place in town and has always been the best. Quality hasn’t floundered even though they changed menu and pricing.
