Welcome to Philadelphia, land of violent savages. There was an unfortunate and relatively serious incident several months ago at my favorite neighborhood bar, which resulted in its months-long closure. It recently re-opened, with a renewed sense of boozy revelry, and I’m ever so glad to see it. Fun bartenders, laid-back atmosphere with some of the greatest deals on awesome craft beer. It’s a tiny corner bar just west of Aramingo, with a pool table and slim jims, to keep things simple. Not always jam-packed on weekend nights, which is both a bonus and a shame. It’s my sincere impression that if you’re going to get shot by some random criminal in this city of brotherly violence, you might as well be drinking a delicious craft brew at the same time.

This jawn is amongst the vanguard on the waves of urban renewal swelling northward along the Frankford ave corridor. And by «vanguard» I mean«in the ghetto», and by «urban renewal» I mean«white folks». As I understand it, having shut its doors under inauspicious circumstances(read: gun play) Pour house sat underutilized for a couple months before opening back up under new, hip ownership and a reinvigorated entrepreneurial spirit. The digs are straight-forward Port Richmond wood-paneled dive couture; pool table, darts, bags of chips and slim jims. But small attributes contribute to a quality neighborhood feel, for instance the wall pasted with old Playboy adverts and the sufficient and unpretentious rotating drafts and the artsy kids who help run the place that usher in a patronizing cast of lily-livered, self-entitled 20-something boondoggles. «What about the shady townies engaged in intractable debate?», You might ask. oh, they’re there, and the creepy old man in that noxious looking trucker hat who sits at the end of the bar staring into oblivion, he’s there too! And he ‘s brought along his haggard wife! Cheers!

This place is finally open again. Awesome beer selection for very cheap prices. Where else can you get craft pours for $ 4? The pool table has also been refelted which rules. It has a good dive bar feel where you totally feel comfortable rolling up there by yourself for a drink after a long day. The bartenders are nice and chatty. I’m sure I will be a regular here pretty quickly.

This place is simple; and I like it. Cheap craft beer($ 4) and even cheaper bad beer. There isn’t any food, just a no frills bar deep in Port Richmond. Friendly staff, a good mix of locals and hipsters, and a low key spot to catch some baseball. Head bartender from Swift Half runs this joint. Hot Dogs coming soon!

The thing I do before I locate the best nearby Chinese take-out jawn but after I locate the best nearby pizza take-out jawn when I move to a new neighborhood, is locate the best nearby alcohol dispensary that plays soccer matches on the telly. Awesome place to watch a game and drink some good beer. The regulars are top notch. John is the man.

After following the progress of a new bar opening in my old«hood», my girlfriend and I decided to check it out one weeknight. Super friendly bartender(who was being heckled by the local Miller Lite drinking Kenso’s) and nice beer list for a bar in Kensington(not really Port Richmond BTW) Not sure if they have redone anything inside since their opening, but it was still reminiscent of any corner bar in the area, with the old sign still being displayed. I wish these guys the best of luck, and hopefully they’ll draw a nicer clientele to a now unsavory neighborhood.

I love this bar! It’s not trendy or pretentious, it just is. You will find a great beer selection, friendly bartenders who know about the beer and will remember your name, and a friendly neighborhood vibe. The neighborhood is, well… borderline, so the sketchy character will occasionally wander in, but the bartenders take care of it and make you feel safe. I would definitely recommend checking this place out if you are just looking for a relaxed evening to have some beers and catch up with friends. FYI, there is no food yet, but they keep takeout menus at the bar.
