Stop by this hidden gem in Old City for a cup of coffee without any pretentiousness. The look has what appears to be that of a Best Western bar area. That aside, the place makes great drinks, the staff is friendly and there’s of course WiFi. I had a Chai Tea Latte at the server’s recommendation and was not disappointed. The milk and tea were in just the right balance to one another. I hung out for a few hours and read on my Kindle and found it to be the right environment to be productive, yet stay relaxed. Highly recommended.

This was my first time here and I’ll definitely be coming back! My friend and I got the chai tea lattes and bagels. The bagels were fresh and light. The tea was perfectly spiced but just a tad too sweet for my taste. I added some cinnamon and a little milk and it was perfect. It was a little bit of a hike from the 8th and Market station, but definitely worth it! the owner was just too nice, we chatted about our favorite places in Chinatown and where to score the best vintage bargains in town,. one cool cat– he’s worth visiting! deceivingly small from the outside– 4th street café opens up to a cool back room, with leather couches and silly old arcade games, like a fortune teller and macho-man strength test. the walls are decorated with local art for sale. 4th street café is a perfect, quiet place to catch up with friends, browse the web and enjoy a delicious cup of joe.

I knew about this place from craigslist open call for artists, also I visited because my friend had a show here for the first friday. It somehow makes me feel an underground spot. Maybe because of the lighting and also the tastes of art. I would not wonder if there were glasses of wines on table instead of coffee. The seats are very open, more like common lounge space for chatting and to see new people. It’s also great spot to try asking hanging art works for emerging artists.

It’s summer in Philadelphia which means its hot as hell and I’m always down for some lemonade. I took everyone’s advice and got the frozen lemonade with a shot of tangerine… Life changing. My girlfriend had the frozen green tea with pomegranate and hers was fantastic as well. We will be back tomorrow to try the coffee! This place is an awesome find!

I stopped by the other day hoping to get lunch, but the menu was limited and not very appealing. Especially considering the great deli down the street. BUT the service was friendly and my made-to-order iced tea was delicious. They have a great selection of loose teas lining the wall behind the register, which I really appreciated as a tea fanatic. The location is a little quirky in a good way. It’s almost directly under the Ben Franklin Bridge. Sitting outside on a beautiful day was scenic and industrial all at once. A nice spot, but not a destination.

Great little hidden spot off the beaten path. When here this past Sunday got a frozen lemonade with a flavor shot(grapefruit). Played the old school game in the back just the kill some time, I set a high score! Love the décor, classy but not cluttered. Ill be back.

I feel like I found a great secret in Old City. I always bike by this place coming back from No Libs, and I went in with some co-workers the other day to check it out and avoid the crowded usuals(Old City Coffee, Café Olé). I really loved the décor(kind of bar-y, but in a fancy way) and there were old timey video games around the place. Completely not crowded, nice staff(and they have frozen lemonade!), AND they take LevelUp. Will be back!

A hidden gem in Old City. Really fun atmosphere. Cozy and makes you feel at home. Friendly staff. Not pretentious. Delicious food– not greasy. Talked with the owner and they’re expanding the menu everyday. Can’t wait to see their potential!

I was beginning to think that my office(stuck between that no-mans-land south of NoLibs and north of Old City) was devoid of coffee places, but thankfully a fellow Unilocaler pointed the way to 4th Street Café. Truly a hidden gem on the corner of 4th and Race — so hidden, in fact, that I almost got lost trying to find it. Somehow, I made it inside to grab an amazing cup of Intelligentsia coffee(the first I’ve found in Philly!). Mmm so good, and not at all overpriced like the other places in Old City. Hoping for a return visit soon so I can give their lunch things a try.

Maybe I went here on an off day… I got a soy latte and it tasted like something I can’t write on here… Super sweet girl behind the counter so that’s why I’m giving 2 stars and not 1! I hope they get their stuff together… They seem to have created a lovely vibe in the place but that doesn’t matter if the coffee is sub par.

Stopped by at 11:00 am this Sunday and the place was locked up tight. I really hope they get their hours straight otherwise this place will not be open for long. Sad Face.

Nice little coffee/tea shop. Low key with good food and relatively low prices. Will definitely come next time I am in Philadelphia.

I’m glad another coffee shop opened up near where I work and I tried to go here last week but was mysteriously closed at 9 in the morning on a weds. Finally got to try it out today and love there coffee and the phone number coffee club system so you don’t have to remember a card every time you go. I went there for lunch later in the day and got a half a sandwich and a salad and iced tea. The food was very delicious and fresh, but it was $ 11! For a HALF of a sandwich, Small salad and bottled iced tea. Too much guys. Sure you’re in old city but you’re not in the part where people are expecting to be bent over for lunch. You’re under the bridge. Lower the prices. Coffee yes. Lunch no. Also. No fork or napkin in the bag. Kind of an extra kick when you get back to work to eat and there’s no utensils

I got lunch here the other day and I really like this place. Panini was pretty good, and the salad was ok, but the iced tea was awesome! A little pricy for a basic lunch so I won’t be going there everyday for food, but it’s good in a pinch. We picked up some breakfast the other day and the breakfast sandwich was sooooo good. The latte was very good as well. Overall, I’m glad this place has moved into the hood and I’m looking forward to having a new«regular» spot for our weekend lattes :)

Shhhhhh… can you keep a secret? There’s this«coffee» place casually named 4th Street Café at the corner of 4th and Race, next to Kisso. Walking by, you won’t be able to see it; there’s no visible sign on the outside, just some logos pasted on the windows from the inside. You can no way tell that this place houses some top secret pow wows with a side of caffeine. You walk in, and you will immediately feel like you are walking into the basement of a secret society. You will see that they serve Intelligentsia coffee and tea, Le Bus sandwiches and salads, South Street Bagels, and homemade soups. They make it pet friendly even: a water bowl for the dog and even treats behind the counter. Order yourself a drink and start moving towards the back of the«café» and you will see leather couches and even a juke box. This may look like a harmless hangout place, but I know that some top secret stuff goes on back there. I saw some military boot prints even amidst the mysterious aura, dim lighting. Even though they are only«open» until 3, someone tipped me that they will be extending the hours to the evening sometime this month. I’m only guessing this is to cover up the real motive of the establishment, which is …(a secret). I won’t buy into that spy crap, but I will be sure to frequent this place for their caffeine. Unless, of course, they dust my drink, but by then, I probably wouldn’t even care.

I really really like this place. Very community centered and the staff is really helpful and involved in every person who steps through their door. So why am I only giving them 4 stars? Well the muffin I had today just wasn’t up to their regular standards. I don’t know what caused them to switch up their baked products, but if you see muffins wrapped in plastic and not in the glass case, don’t get them. They were just no where near as good as the ones that were in the case. In fact, I couldn’t even finish the muffin I had today because I disliked the taste so much. I totally forgot to tell the wonderful guys on staff about this since I was running out the door, but the next time I stop by, if they have still have the same muffins, I ask about the change because in my opinion it wasn’t for the better. :/ Otherwise, I enjoy this spot. Did I mention the personability of the staff? Like seriously, top notch. Also love the couches and the music. This is a really warm and comfortable place to grab a cup of coffee and snack and chill for a few minutes. The coffee is cheap and tasty(I really like their different blends) and the other food that I’ve tried where delicious. Also, this place is pet friendly!

Warning! The 4th Street Café is addictive. Homemade cakes, great coffee, delicious, reasonably priced food. But mostly, interesting people and good conversation. Bonus – the cleanest place in town.

I’m excited to see and support a new addition to the local businesses in Olde City. This new coffee house/café has a very friendly staff(Nick and Owen) with a contemporary and inviting décor. Nice choices in coffees and teas including«Fruit Bat» that has a unique processing technique. They are expanding on the normal coffee house menu and are introducing breakfast and lunch items. 4th Street Café is located pretty much under the B.F. Bridge… to me it is a welcome sight not just because it’s roughly a block from my house, but mostly because this section of Olde City could use a few more cool places to hang out.
