Old First Reformed United Church of Christ

If you’re looking for a progressive Christian place of worship, Old First fits the bill.
It’s in a safe and convenient part of town and people there are warm and welcoming. Plus, they’re an open and affirming congregation, so it’s a really diverse group. The worship service is usually meaningful, if a little long and disorganized at times. They do a lot of service work in the community (shelter, food pantry), so there are plenty of volunteer opportunities if you’re looking for a way to donate your time.
I think there’s only one service right now, starting at 11 AM, but I get the feeling that would change if the place grew. While such a late start time is somewhat of a bummer, one advantage is that it’s a great segue into the brunch hour in a part of town with killer restaurants. If you do that, you basically have to make a day of it.
Finding a place of worship is all about the right fit, but Old First seems to be the type of place that wants to meet a lot of different people’s spiritual needs. I like it.
